nac 282: can I connect a non-Naim power amp through Link 2 socket? Or Standard socket? Please help me thanks. Massimo
Hi All, I've recently upgraded from a Uniti 1 and Monitor Audio RX6 Speakers to Uniti/Nap 250/Vertere Pulse X-Mini/Wilson Audio Sabrina. Overall i'm very happy but would like to brighten the sound a little more, for example the piano in many tracks is quite subdued compared to what im used too, what would you recommend in terms of improving the setup? Thanks Shaun
Anyone here did a comparison between the Allaes and the Focal Chorus 816 v speakers?
Hi All, I have freed up a few pennies to make some improvements to my system; but as always, there's a budget to adhere to and whatever I do will have to last for a while. I have a 10 year old 555ps (non DR) powering my NDS and a 13 year old NAP 200 partnering my 282/supercapDR; the 282 is 12 years old but I believe that should be ok for at least a couple of years before a service is due. So, I'm thinking I can either change the 200 for a 250DR (used or ex-dem) or service the 555 and the 200...
I just looked at the ND555 specs on the Naim web site and I'm seeing some wierd and wonderful connections, like a 5pin din INPUT and THREE digital OUTPUTS (see below my copy/paste). Anyone can make a mistake, but hey, there's surely a limit when you're tasked with creating a web page for a world flagship streamer... Am I being too harsh, or is this player really more equipped than anyone could have hoped for? Connectivity Audio Inputs 2 x optical TOSLink (up to 24bit/96kHz) 2 x coaxial RCA...
Hello to all I just bought a DAC V1 where I connected a Mac Mini with Audirvana via asynchronous USB. I have to connect the DAC to my preamp. NAC 202. Which input do you suggest me to use? CD? Tuner? Aux1? Aux2? is indifferent? are they all the same? Thanks so much
Have a 272/250DR, probably about to add XPS DR to the mix, and may change to a NDX 2 + some preamp in the not too distant future..... Currently driving old but serviceable Ruark Crusaders, and sounding good. But probably need to upgrade the speakers in the none-too-distant..... Have a good price offered (<£3k) on Q Acoustics Concept 500 - retail £4k. Have slight discount for B&W anything..... Spendor D7's seem to crop up (not heard), as do Focal Aria 926 (which I've heard for a brief...
Hi Folks...... Im looking for some advice and logical explanation regarding an upgrade I would like to do. Im currently running my Superline from the 252 I have in my system, I m looking to purchase a Supercap next week to power the Superline, my question is, is this upgrade worth the expense? Am I likely hear a noticeable difference with this upgrade. The reason for asking this is I have a CD5X CD player powered by a flatcap and I have to say the music it produces seams to shake the bottom...
Is it just as straightforward as lowering one speaker volume and raising the other? I ask as I presently have my daughter sleeping on me, my head is forced to the side and so I counteract with the balance. But when I put the sound towards the centre again the overall volume seems to rise. (Maybe I’ve got too much time on my hands to ask inane questions!)
Any one out there in Naim land driving Wilson Duettes with the 250DR or the 300DR? Impressions, comparisons to other Amps and comments....... I've been home demo-ing the 250DR....excellent sound and much improved over my Levinson 432 (400 watts per channel). The 250DR is quite bright at higher volumes. All this controlled with the NAC-272 sources = Tidal, Classe SACD2 and Uniti Core
Hi folks, It's been a while since I posted but had a demo worthy of a post today. A bit of back story - around 6 months ago I moved to San Francisco and shipped my gear over with me. Over recent years I've put most of my "hifi fund" into upgrading electronics - I've been through a Rega Elicit R, DAC-V1, NAP 100 and NAP 250, ultimately settling on the 272/250DR. One thing has remained constant, my B&W CM8s; I was just having too much fun seeing how far Naim upgrades can get my system. For...
Hi I generally leave my system on all the time ......... and it sounds great. I only switch off if I go on holiday. However, I was wondering with Naim equipment - do forum members have experience of reliability over a number of years .... I was wondering what the long term effects are of permanent power up ..... ie drying up of components/failures/transformer issues etc..... From what I have read before... it seems the power up all the time is more favorable than the repeated on off ......
Would you spend a little more for a 300DR amp than a 250DR, to currently partner with a 272. Likely upgrade route is separate pre and NDX 2 when it's out, so also keep that system in mind. Driving Ruark Crusaders but in 12 months or so those may be changed for something else too. But getting sources right first. Have an option on a 300DR at about £2k more than a 250DR...... It's more about bass and control at low volumes than noise, though it is in a biggish room (6m x 12m, but tend to...
what its for?
Liked the Nova when I first heard it. Bought one on 14 day trial. But as well as it having album artwork stuck on the display (despite the latest firmware) it's got worse the last few days. Harsher, thinner treble, weaker bass. Replacing it with a 272/250dr I hope. But disappointing as the product design is much nicer and more modern. Odd that the sound went from good-better (after a couple of days) but then progressively worse.....
So the nylon thread on my Aro Anti-skate broke. I've got the weight of course but any advice on how to reattach the weight to the thread (and what to use as a replacement thread)?
Dear friends of the forum I wanted a thing from you. due to space problems I have to reluctantly let go of my nac 282 and 250.2 dr naim. everything will be replaced with the new naim united nova. my speakers are rega rs 10. do I hurt? sorry for the bad english and thank you all
Hello, i am a Naim fan. Driving the system with a NAC 272 with 555 ps with 2 Jeff Rowland model 6 vintage mono amps. Wired it all with Chord super array. I tried a Hegel p30 from a friend and it wins out the preamp of the NAC272. I reed people saying that the preamp performance of the NAC272 hangs between the NAC282 - 252. I want too upgrade to a NDS with the 555dr so need a good preamp. The sound of the Hegel p30 impressed me very much. Very tubelike natural sound and with good dynamics en...
Not sure if this should be in the streaming or hi-fi sections, but this one seems more active..... I'm wondering what the chances of Naim producing a new pre-amp in its separates (classic) range that recognises that many people are going down the streaming/local server route, and so would produce a 252-quality pre-amp with just a digital in, so focussing on the DAC and the pre-amp capabilities. Might have an inbuilt supply (282?) or a separate one (a la 252). Could then be sold at a grand or...
Looking at my source now for possible upgrade. Happy, very happy with the rest - 252/SCDR/300DR/ProAc D48R and SL DINtoDIN I/C , 4m of SL Speaker Cable. To upgrade to either a 5552/500 is way out of reach for me now and possible forever. Which leaves open the source side. HDX /n-DAC/555PS -non DR. TBH I am happy with it, but you always wonder what if ........ I guess. Budget wise I can either keep 5555PS and do the DR upgrade , sell the n-DAC/555PS and keep HDX , sell n-DAC & keep 555PS...
I’ve just got my NDS back from Salisbury. I’d sent it back to them because I’d noticed it made a nasty rattling clunking noise whenever I lifted and moved it (gently of course). I assumed something must have gone amiss with the suspended brass plate inside, so off it went 5weeks ago. I got it back yesterday. Apparently, they could find no fault, but replaced the suspension springs for the brass plate as a precaution. They tell me they’ve tested the unit and all is well. However, the clunking...
Besides the NAP 250DR all my Naim equipment has been pre-loved. A couple of years ago I decided the NAC 282 I had needed a service but, prior to sending it off, realized I would be without music for a couple of months so purchased a pre-loved 2002 vintage NAC 252 to take over duties in the 282’s absence. I had absolutely no intention of keeping the 252. I was totally satisfied with the 282 .. I just wanted to listen to and experience the 252 during the 282’s absence. If the 252 was OK then I...
just read the article, and was actually pleasantly surprised to see the Supernait 2, on that list. The other Naim amp is the 32/snaps/250... Also pleasantly surprised to see an Arcam amp there, the old Diva A85....
I have recently acquired a lovingly used Rega RP10 with Aphelion -- my first MC, ever -- into Rega Aria. It is rather better than the 2007-ish Planar3/RP300/Exact1 it replaces. In 40+ years of playing records, I have never damaged/broken a needle. Now that I am finally using a MC, do I need to keep a tough old MM like the 3/Exact around for vetting friends' records, before permitting them access to the exhaulted RP10? I would prefer to avoid such "preciousness", unless absolutely necessary.
Has anyone experience of using a Nait XS2 as a preamplifier with a NAP 250DR power amplifier? I will eventually upgrade to a NAC 282 preamplifier (or similar), with the 250DR. Do I have to buy a Hi-CAP, or other power source with the NAP 250DR to make a Nait XS2/NAP 250DR combo work? The other option is to sell the Nait XS2 and buy a Supernait 2, until I'm ready for the big investment of a 282/250DR. Will there be a noticeable improvement with a Nait XS2/NAP 250DR combo compared with the...
