Hi, does anybody know what magnet type speaker manufacturers use today? (neodymium, ferrite or Al-Ni-CO). There are always a lot of information about speaker membranes in reviews and manuals, but always ZERO info about magnet type. Is this some kind of secret? All these magnets sound differently and would give better understanding about sound characteristics to potential users.

Hello everyone I have the opportunity to buy a Naim n-Vi with very little price. I already have a Dac V1. I would like to understand some things: - Can I use n-Vi as a CDP using the coaxial optical output and connect it to the Dac V1? - Can I connect to the n-Vi via "aux in" the surround back output of the AV2 (already in my possession) and use the n-Vi as the final amp for the 7.1? (I already have the Nap 200 for the front and the V175 for surround and central) I know that the n-Vi is not a...

Looking to purchase headphones for my Naim system. Have nds for source, nac-252, nap-300dr, 555ps and SuperCap. Need advise on headphones and headphone amp. Budget up to $7000 total for amp and headphones, but if i can spend less I'm all for it

On Wednesday I added the Superlumina Din to XLR cable to my system, and right away I noticed an uplift in sound.I was previously using the standard Naim cable,so it was an eye opener right away.More detail, but also a more relaxed presentation,if that is possible,no harshness or edginess to the the sound. After reading all the threads here on these cables,I was prepared for it to even sound worse, given that the cable has no time at all on it.Saturday I picked up and installed the Superlumina...

Hi, i am new on this forum and a potential Naim buyer. I would like tomtap into your experience with the Streamer/Preamplifier N 272. My system sounds fairly forward in the upper middles and flat, lean. Bluenode 2, Rega DAC. Audiolab AP8200, AVM M3ng, Dynaudio Sapphire. My thoughts are to replace ths Audiolab with a N 272 and adding a bit of Naim tonality to make the setup swing! The AVM‘s have a lot of power and resolve very well, the Sapphires are so unique and beautiful, those 2 items I...

Hello, I enjoy the sound of my Naim speaker cables but would like something more flexible. I see the Tellurium Q Black cables getting solid reviews on here but mostly with newer Naim gear. Will the Tellurium Q black or blue work with my Nait 2 or CB Nap 110? and do I still need the 3.5 meters? Many thanks!

I am sure the debate will have been had before, but a couple of things have lead to me to bring this up. Firstly there is my DAC off that's been going on with DAC-V1 vs Qutest, which has been bugging me, and then there is the thread about the firmware update for the streamers to 4.6 getting some mixed reviews. Here's the thing, when someone describes something as being ultra detailed, whether that be a reviewer, a friend, or any of you fine folk, I almost straight away feel like that product...

My son has a recent UQ2b (Summer 2015) and has enjoyed it very much for a dorm room. He uses it into a pair of Crimson Electronics speaker cables and a pair of Blumenstein Audio Tritons (upgrade Thrashers). We got the whole rig via Peter S at Venice Audio and could not be happier. Now he is graduating and is interested in a upgrade. We also have a NaitXS with FlatcapXS and CD5X into nSats upstairs that we could roll into the mix. What is the logical upgrade path for someone who is perfectly...

Aaagh! my 300DR has become mono! Right channel has gone AWOL. Swap input leads at the 272 end - right channel still silent -> 272 exonerated. Swap right input lead - right channel still silent, test lead with a meter -> input lead exonerated. Swap speaker cables at 300 DR end - left speaker silent, right speaker OK -> Speaker cables and speakers exonerated. Culprit = 300DR. No Music If other things go wrong this could become a very serious problem.

I own a Ben Ace SL cartridge and a Uniti Star all-in-one. Which phono, in term of SQ, would you suggest? StageLine (K version with i-Supply PSU) to complete an all-Naim system or Benz PP1 to complete a full Benz analogue set-up? Thank you

After several lengthy experiments I see floorstanding and stand mounted loudspeakers as a dead end in this particular room and overall situation (think two small children here). My current speakers are easily the best ones I had in this room. But the best location soundwise is in front of some record cabinets. So it’s either good sound or complete access to my records . Both scenarios fail to satisfy me bigly. Because of this, a better set of headphones and some nice speakers on top of the...

I recently read some old online comments from individuals that swapped their NAP250's for one of these Dynavector HX75's, so when one came up locally a few weeks ago i thought 'why not' so bought it out of curiosity and decided to have a bit of an experiment so hooked up the 62/Hicap to it and took a leap... For the first week it sounded a bit rubbish, but two weeks in now and to be honest, it's absolutely knocked the crap out of my beloved 250! so much so I'm actually considering ditching...

I would like to know where I would get the best performance from a Supercap. I'm currently powering my 282 with 2 hicap DR's and my superline with a hicap. Having just purchased a supercap, would it be better placed with the 282 or the superline?

Seeking advice. I need to use a mains extension lead to reach the Naim Nova. Is an anti surge mains block a good idea. Bob F

Hi, I was not able to completely avoid the noise and hum in my setup. The setup consists of a Rega RP 10, Koetsu Goldline, Superline, HiCap DR into a 272. The problems are described here: http://forums.naimaudio.com/topic/the-second-try-naim-superline-with-rega-rp10 I have brought my gear to my dealer, so that he could test different combinations - different cables, replacement of separte components i.e. turntable, Superline, HiCap etc. He also added a separate ground cable to the RP 10.

I’ve just ordered my next part in optimising interconnects and I plan on improving my system stacking order as well. Presently it is, going down... Left: 552, space,HDX, nDAC, 500 Right: nVi, space, 552PS, 555PS, 500PS I am going to move the space from the braun side and put it either beneath the HDX or beneath the nDAC. As it is a big operation I can’t go testing and comparing. I’d be grateful for advice! What do you recommend: Putting the space beneath the HDX or putting the space beneath...

It's been a quiet afternoon so was wondering why the left speaker outputs on an amp are on the RHS and the right outputs on the LHS. Surely it makes more sense to have LH on the LHS etc. Saves you 30cms of cable..... every little helps!!! As I said, it's been a long afternoon so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Wondering if any one knows if you can directly connect an Innuos zen mk1 audio server directly into a supernait’1 to playback ripped cds or do you need an intermediary dac? Anyone done this? thanks, andy

I know that Harbeth is somewhat marmite around these parts! BUT for aficionados of the Harbeth sound with Naim I can whole-heartedly recommend the 40th's which I've now been running for a couple of weeks. I've had the standard P3s for the last couple of years and the anniversary models are substantial upgrade - way more insight into the music and even more integrated and resolved than the already superb (IMHO) P3s.

Wondering what you are using for speaker cable? Some excellent threads about SQ and power supply upgrades etc but what's the concensus on which speaker cable is best for Naim products. Personally I'm running Townsend Isolda cable between Uniti 2 and PMC 25.23 speakers. Gordon

I have just bought a Nait 3 and CD 3.5, neither had a 5 pin interconect. I used a non Naim DIN 5 pin to RCA. DIN in CD and RCA in the phono input (no phono stage). Everything sounds fine, also used the same connection to check the other inputs i.e. RCA to source (TV) DIN to other inputs, aux, cd, tuner etc. No problems every input works as expected. Bought a "Naim" 5pin 180 degree interconect/Snaic, yellow code NA-46 off an auction site. When I plug this into inputs 2-CD and 3-Tuner I get a...

I currently have a Chord power bar feeding an NDS, 555DR/Powerline and a Linn Akurate Kontrol. Is it worth "±upgrading" the power bar and if so what is to be recommended?

So, I was going to ship off the NAP250 for a recap and DR upgrade anyway, but whilst driving it with the 282 volume pot at about halfway, it suddenly cut out. No power going in. I assumed a fuse bust and when the dealer/tech got back to me, he had assumed the same thing BUT! When he benched it and plugged in, it came on immediately. The only other thing we could think of was a problem with the supply lead. I have a Graham's Hydra feeding the boxes - no problems anywhere else. No problem with...

Is it normal to hear "thump" sound from speakers on Unity Atom power on? It is not loud, but it is noticeable. I'm wondering, because previously I had amp which didn't make this "thump" sound. Do all unity users experience that?
