Hi Mates, As far as I know I would need DIN/XLR cable pair from supercap to NAP300. Are these cables indentical ie. one of them can be used from Scap to NAP 250 as well or they differently configured (2x mono in the case of 300 or 500) ? Thx in advance.
Naim should be ashamed of itself, letting honest-hard-working people like myself audition 500 series level separates.
hello, since a few days my system sound had become too heavy, with too much bass and vibrations of the room due to the bass. Nothing had changed in my system recently. My nap 300 dr have perhaps 400 hours now, maybe 500 hours. I am listening around 5 hours per week. I tried different positions of my speakers, and also to destress the burndys cables to the 300 ps. But nothing really changed. There is too much energy in the sound now. Why now? i don’t understand. My dealer can come only in 10...
Well I left Naim amplification. Now I'm coming back. I miss the fluidity. I have a Sugden A21 currently for 12 months. Positive characteristics: Big, wide soundstage, clean sound, fast transients, quite bouncey, musical. Very enjoyable generally. I demoed A21SE but didn't hear much of a contrast? Negative characteristics; Slight glare, slight taming of the music. Shallow bass, lacks deep kick. I have Supernait 2 on my radar. Now considering other options before I commit. Naimely Supernait 2...
This is for anyone who has terminated the speaker end of their NAC A5 themselves. Did you tin the cable first? I usually do that when soldering, but when it comes to audio, I see conflicting opinions that putting solder between the cable and the connector will degrade SQ. I personally cannot imagine that being at a level that one can hear? The only other methods would be crimping, or clamping the bare cable to the connector first, then adding solder to hold it in place. What have you done?
If one looks at just Naim’s range over the years as a benchmark, and how long it took the Statement to evolve, a question emerges... Have recording studios been ultimate quality for decades? Recordings from the early 80s sound phenomenal and that may even stretch to the mid 70s... just. It’s perplexing because it’s taken SO MANY years for audio playback to catch up!! And who knows if even the Statement has caught up?
All you do is bounce the cartridge across the cork matted platter, amazingly the armature (think that’s what it’s called) didn’t beak and Diamond still intact. played a record and got excessive sibulance so altered arm angle till it improved, ended up with 12” Jelco arm with its arse in the air. John wright audio who rebuilt my Decca says I’ve probably ( definitely) bent the armature but reckons he can fix and put a new tie on it. So it’s in the post and I have pressed an old Dynavector 10x4...
Forum Several months ago I located a website by accident run by either an ex KEF or B&W engineer who makes a low-frequency extender loudspeaker for LS3/5a. From memory, this one is a bit different than the bandpass enclosures on offer by others. Problem is I did not bookmark the page, nor can I remember the name of his company. Searching online has come up empty. Might someone know of this manufacturer? Many thanks.
Can the uniticore be used as a CD player (with digital out?). I've got a bunch of CDs that I don't want to rip. The unitiserv has that option..
Hi All, Just looking for some advice, I currently have MM phono board installed in my 32.5 with a Hana EH cartridge. I am looking to make the move to a MC Cartridge and need some advice of what MC boards to buy. I have seen a pair of the Naim 323/5K which I have read these are made for Linn Cartridges. if i was to go for the Naim boards could I pair these with any MC Cartridge or must it be a Linn Cartridge? Thanks in advance.
I have a 1977 Linn Sondek with Ittok LV2 and Troika cartridge. Advice I need is this. I've just bought the deck and I have no idea of the history of the cartridge so I have to assume, considering how long ago Linn stopped making them, that the Troika is worn out. It sounds fine and tracks fine, but... Anyway, I've been doing a little research and the Dynavector 10X5 keeps coming up as a decent cartridge. I have a budget of £500 for the cart. So, is the Dynavector the way to go for my deck,...
...........well at least different. Sitting here in the kitchen area listening to Jeff Beck at Ronnie’s on the Qb streamed from Tidal. Acknowledging that as all in one systems go the Mu-sos are probably as good it gets I’m noticing different things. Of course it’s nowhere near what I hear on the main system, certainly in terms of resolution and soundstage, but I’m getting the textures, emotion and groove in abundance Is making the late evening coffee taste even better. Regards, Lindsay
As I’ve recently realised I’ve been suppressing what my system does by not using ‘good enough’ interconnects, it’s led me to gradually making each of the other component connections far better - at a comparably cheap and affordable cost considering the electronics. My next change will be the digital interconnect, which presently is a Clearaudio £180 one. Satisfied yes, but now I know this must mask what the nDAC outputs, including adding jitter and noise. Because it adds jitter and noise,...
Hi, I am a first time Naim user and first time buying Hi-Fi. I recently got myself Dynaudio Special 40 and Naim Uniti Star paired with a 2.5m Chord EPIC cable. I know the cable should be longer (3.5m), but I know no better at that time :( Hearing the Star with my speaker is not a special combo to my ear. It just sound strange with all instruments unable to hear clearly enough. When I put on my cheap Klipsch IEM I can hear the instruments clearly, but the speaker unable to provide it. I can...
Apologies for all these interconnect threads, but the forum teaches me a lot and I’m on the verge of buying a top flight digital interconnect. I can see a present opportunity, but it’s S/H so can’t audition. As the question asks, which is better RCA- RCA or RCA-BNC (my nDAC must remain RCA as Naim informed me, but the nDAC takes BNC, which I think is superior)?? Also, does the cutting off of the two unused pins on the DIN connector improve sound quality? I read that on a website. Thanks
Hi all, Trying to put together a small system for my second home. Room is 7m x 4m, speakers will need to fire along the length. I have a Nait5i-2 and a Naim CD2 CD player, also have a V90 DAC for iTunes usage. Budget for speakers is a max of £750 and looking at secondhand. Want floorstanders and they need to be simple one box designs as have kids running around that don't understand the concept of boxes sat on pips etc. Also need to be able to move them out of the way occasionally without...
. I found a used pair of 5 meter Super Lumina cables with banana connects at both ends. Is it possible to have the speaker side converted into spades, would it be abvisable to have it done in Salisbury...... ? Thank you .
Has anyone tried 1877 Phono locking bananas on the end of NAC A5? Being as stiff and prone to popping out as they are, and being I want to re-terminate my cables anyways, thinking of giving these a try. Just wondering if anyone has tried them, and how well the cable fits into the 9mm version. Thanks.
I had been using a Mojo in my main system for two years. After messing around with a number of different DACs, I thought that the Mojo had a certain vibe that my other (admittedly budget end) DACs lacked. When the Qutest was launched, it was just what I had been waiting for. No batteries, no headphone amp that I would never use. I am told that the Qutest takes time to burn in. So this is going to be good, because after a few hours of playing with it then it already has the Mojo licked. Most...
Hi all, today I bought a supercap DR and send you a quick report to interested ears. my old system: 252+SC (non DR) / Superline+HCDR home demoed: 252+SC (non DR) / Superline+SC (non DR) own now: 252+SCDR, Superline+SC (non DR) So I switched my old SC to my superline and put the new SCDR on the 252. First of all: It's far better than expected. To me the two home demoed non DR SCs were from the start a no brainer. The Hicap DR perhaps is really good but in comparison to an old supercap for me...
Hi - After a long and unsuccessful journey trialling different speakers in my room from hell I am about to sell my Naim kit and buy Linn so I can use space optimization. One last thought was looking to obtain some form of digital room correction to use for my 272 - room treatments are not an option for me. Looking at Dirac it seems this can only be used if the 272 is connected directly to a PC - whereas I stream from a NAS connected to my 272 via a network (as I assume most do?). Does anyone...
Hi folks.can u advise me what else do I need to go active w/my Credo 2 speakers and 2 naps 180 & nac 102? Thx
When I first joined the Naim forum about four years ago after purchasing a DAC-V1, I was quite surprised find the product getting the most praise was made by Chord. For a good while it seemed as though if you were looking to address any issue with a system, and there wasn't already a Hugo in it, well, there's your problem. Not really true, but you know what I mean. I didn't doubt the talents of the Chord DACs, the frustration for me was they didn't make the product I wanted in every sense.
well, it’s rather good i was sceptical, given that I’d already got powerlines to all 4 front end power supplies after a bit of faffing about with the Radikal, on it went And right from the off it was a game changer, a bigger difference than olive supercap to supercap DR - maybe not quite as much as 52 - 552DR I’ve always been and still am sceptical of expensive mains cables
Hi - Planning to upgrade from standard Naim power cables, but because of the expense will be doing it one at a time. Should I do the 250DR cable first, or the 272 streamer/pre-amp? As always, thanks for your input
