Sorry for the size of this lengthy epic posting ...... I just want to put it into perspective. Okay ... I've been posting recently on this forum about decisions in respect of my final turntable. I say final, since I have no intention to enter the upgraditis treadmill scenario (with analogue) and simply want to be musically fulfilled from the outset. To recap, I have approx 300 LP's that I want to sound as good as my Naim digital source (which will be the focus of later upgrades).
As I have posted by way of pictures a few weeks ago, I have added a turntable to my system: a Pro-Ject RPM 3 Carbon with a Grado Blue 1 cart and a Stageline. The Stageline is, for now, powered by my SuperNait but a PSU is on its way. For years I have refused to do this move, because I didn't like the idea of two very different sources in the same system, which would expose me to the unavoidable risk of comparisons and doubts. As my therapist says, I am dichotomous: it must be this or that.
I just picked up a NAC 42N and a NAP 110, built in 1983. Cosmetically they are perfect and sound-wise they are a treat despite not having been serviced, I have them at my office along with a recently serviced Nait 2 and an 1994 Sugden Optima and they're taking turns driving a modest pair of bookshelf Totems. At home I recently upgraded my speakers to Kudos C20s and added a discounted NDX as a source for my Nait XS 2. As great as the sound is, and it is all that I want out of HiFi, there is...
Anyone know when the last major changes to the Nac72 happened? Did they start having regular RCA inputs for the Phono stage at any point? Did the Nait-2 ever take rca inputs for phono stage and CD?
Has anyone heard a comparison between the 272/XPSDR and CDS3/282? If so could you share any insights?
Not knowing a great regarding gear I have an opportunity to go to a superline as I have a SC that I'm not currently using, I've had for the past 7 years with no issues or complaint, I'm just wondering if getting the SuperLine is a significant jump forward. I would very much appreciate the forums thoughts.
quick question. Will Naim recase an olive box in a classic box ? No electronic changes. Just cosmetic on the rack. Cheers rob
My current home setup is Anthem MRX300 avr, Rega Planar 3, Focal Chorus 714 fronts, Focal Chorus CC700V centre and B&W M1 rears. Also a BK XXLS 400DF sub. Everything is about 6 years old. I'm looking to get one of the new Uniti models. At the moment it is between the Atom and the Star. Is the Star worth paying almost double the price of Atom for? In terms of speakers: Should I stay with the Focals or should I upgrade to PMC twenty5 22 or twenty5 23? Would the Star be able to power the...
I came home yesterday with a brand new 300DR. Sadly it’s been a disappointment. I expected it to slam dunk my old CB250 but whilst it’s better In the way adding a Radikal replacing a Lingo in an LP12 would be, it’s no more powerful than the 250. I was hoping for some real power and impact. But every time I go back to the 250 I just think wow this old girl is still a real corker of an amp. Perhaps it’s because it’s been factory tuned to drive my Isobariks and every service I make sure that...
Hi, I recently bought a second-hard CD5xs, which is manufactured in 2016. Today when I played a standard CD I heard fluttering noised from both channels, tried a couple of other CDs they played fine. I then played one with the fluttering sound on my SACD player all is fine. Secondly, I tried a few Hybrid SACDs from various brands and the player won't read most of them. For the ones it does ready (show time/track info) it also has the fluttering noise only much worse. Is my unit defective?
Hi, Is it possible to fit a DR to an Olive XPS? I'm guessing only XPS2's qualify.
asked my dealer this morning to get my 300 serviced and moreover DR - changed earlier this year from 200 to 300 which was a real upgrade, prob the biggest step up for me since i began the journey some 17 years ago - 202 to 282 was very good and certainly added a lot more detail but the 300 was a real WOW moment when added rest of system LP12, NDX,282,HCDR, Fraim - ideally if funds allow this year 555 for the NDX or SC for 282
Probably a stupid question (sorry, I am a flat-earther when it comes to iphones; ie. I don't have/need one!) but can you connect a laptop to the front panel using a suitable adaptor cable? The manual states "portable music players" can be connected in this way. If not is there another way using the rear connections? Thanks.
hey all, would like to pick your minds about this topic. i am wondering if i can buy the tibia plus 12 from avoptions and upgrade the connectors at both ends - with say furutech fi-11. in this some questions : 1. i have read on multiple posts on this forum that non-plated connectors (preferably copper?) are the best. but i see that the naim powerline european (shucko?) plug uses rhodium connectors. what are your views on this? 2. though avoptions is using wattgate male connector still they...
Hi I just wanted to know. Is there a difference quality sound ? Very very debating . Both the same power output Thanks Sharon
Anyone has done A/B comparison of SN2 + HCDR with Uniti Star/ Nova? Which one provides tightest bass without compromising on clarity of vocals and spacing of instruments? I currently have my Dyn F260s being driven by Nait 5si. From what I have read/ heard so far is that SN2 + HCDR combo will provide tighter bass whereas Uniti Star provides better sound stage and good controls over bass.
hi all, long time since I have posted. I have an opportunity to purchase a used hicap dr to enhance my system. Not sure where it should be placed if I do purchase it. I can test drive it for while, but I am looking for suggestions based on some of the members past experience. System is currently supernait 1//NDX/ LP12 with geddon, prefix, linn Krystal, circus,aro/dynaudio focus 340, naim naca5 and a flatcap powering the prefix and Supernait. Everything has naim power lines. I don’t listen to...
OK, so I finally got around to putting some soft foam under the two burndies that have been on the floor in my active DBL setup. Where did that extra depth in sound come from?!! The lower amp is a 500 that serves the bass, and given space, there is no configuration that would stop them trailing on the floor. Perhaps I am imagining it - but whatever - 5 mins reoworking the cables seems to have done wonders to the sound.
Just wondering if there are likely to be any issues with using a NARCOM 3 rather than a NARCOM 4 with a Nait 5 i amplifier?
Does the end of the Burndy on the NAP300 with the faded band / collar go to the amplifier or to the power supply? I assume the collar should be at the amp end and have located one Burndy easily but the other Burndy just will not lock. I’m wondering if I’m trying to fit them the wrong way round. Any advice much appreciated. Regards David
For curiosity, had anyone preferred an other brand than naim preamp vs the 552, with nap 500 or nap 300. In the same level of price, or even more expensive, like vitus pre, dagostino, dartzeel, mcintosh....
Off work today listening to my Rega radio (BBC R3 of course) and it sounds especially good. I noticed the same thing last night too even on R2? Could it be the weather?
I would be grateful for advice regarding my current Naim system and how without seriously depleting my savings I can improve my listening experience. I have a typical olive system, 250, 72, hicap, SBL's and CDX. My dilemma is whether to purchase a used XPS or ditch the SLB's and buy a more recent pair of speakers such as floor standing ProAc's or perhaps Spendors. I My room is fairly small 3.5 x 2.5m so any new speakers would need to be up against a wall, so rear-ported speakers I believe...
Today, DPD driver arrived with my Chord Signature Aray Power cable, to replace the Powerline Life, that Was the amazing part ; ) I have thought hard and wanted a Powerline full fat, even ordered one then cancelled - yes overkill for a Nova but I'm thinking this and a few other accessories will stay as the system evolves (though always said when I cameback to Naim with a Muso, that's it and no more and then Mr Dane telling us all the Nova was special, i quickly ditched the Atom (no demo - the...
I'm looking to get a good but not too expensive MC phono stage for my Linn Krystal (on my LP12 Akurate). I'm currently using a Rega MC Fono (which was always a temporary solution only, but quite good actually). An obvious choice would be Linn's own Uphorik, but at roughly 2600 € I find it quite expensive and ideally would like to stay under the 1500 € mark. I'm considering Trichord Dino or Trichord Diablo with the Never Connected power supply. Another candidate would be the Rega Aria. I...
