just an random thought for the evening. My current system is max height for Fraim and no option for two stacks atm. So front end is NDX/XPSDR into 52, snaxo has to be hicap powered due to shelf space. Moving to a 272/555 would save two boxes, allowing a supercap on the snaxo and a spare shelf. So which do we think could be better ? Does the supercap boost the snaxo that much to offset the other changes ? just musing (not looking to change) but would be interested in opinions. Thanks Rob
Hi! After years listening lots of Music my Lyra Skala is 10 (!!) years old - I have to change my cart. Besides my Hicap (for Superline), SC 2 (for 252 and 300 will be recapped and dr-ed (my dealer will send them for service to Germany - I think Hamburg) in the next weeks. Now I`m wondering whether a Lyra Etna SL will be worth the money in my setup? Will it show its virtues through my system? Or may I be better of with a Kleos SE? And maybe waiting for a Supercap for the Superline? Thanks for...
we all like to listen. But what influences more than the other ?
So the choice is Clearway or Shawline. Does the Shawline offer twice the quality of the Clearway, at twice the price?
I currently have on dem the ATC SCM100 passive speakers, and huge buggers they are too ! I was very impressed with a demo I heard at Acoustica the other week, (they were the active version), so I asked to hear them at home. Having a NAP500, the opinion was that passive + 500 would be better than active, so passive they are... for now. I've asked to hear the active version after deming the passives for a week or so... but more later. I've been listening to these ATC100's without attempting...
A high quality digital cable or high quality analogue cable? Let me give the context. One can get equivalent cables costing similar prices, from the same manufacturer- yet one is labelled digital and one analogue, the first one cable the second two. Both cases £1000+ But then again, Naim uses the DC1 costing about £400 and they claim it’s the best. What I’m trying to ask is digital has less possibilities of signal (1s and 0s), analogue many more. Does that imply the ratio of expense should...
Can one go from a past active rig of 1980s Isobariks with naim 6 pack of 135s to 2002 NBLs with three 250.2s active again 552/555DR, CD555/555.DR, LP12 ,akiva, NDS/555DR without deep regret can I with the right speakers go passive and get glorious sound. To this effort I'm soon adding a 500DR/500PSDR to have for the future passive , new speakers I am hoping to find! My plan is to sell the NBLs and amps, crossover and supercap I'll will save a bit of room and I can get nice new speaker cables...
Hi, Just wondered what people are using alongside their Atom, Star or Nova? Despite the continued teething troubles with my Core and the well-documented ripping and app issues I love the simplicity of the system. I purchased an Atom & Core and a pair of Spendor A6Rs with Tellurium Q Black II and was more than happy having demoed offerings from PMC and Neat. I have just upgraded to D7s after a rush of blood to the head and can't believe how well the Atom handles them. Not only that the...
Evening peeps Just got my Nait 3 back from being seviced, and having decided to redesign the racking, cant put it in situ. My question is can I turn it on and leave it in another rack so its warm when I need it (with no speaker cables etc) without damaging it? Many thanks Clive
Am looking to go back to vinyl after a number of years without it. Have a Naim Atom and am thinking about a Naim Stageline for the phono amp. which Naim PSU’s can I use to power the stageline? Could I even start with a Snaps? which lead will I need to take the line out from Din to phono? Haven’t got the turntable yet as still considering options.
I am using old, probably at least 20 year old, NACA5 between my 282/250.2 and my Dynaudio Focus 160s. A couple of years ago I Re-terminated the ends (and discovered that the hifi dealer that had supplied them should not list soldering as one of his talents). I am of the opinion that the conductors themselves do not age, so are still fine, but nothing that I can do will improve the stubborn nature of A5. Indeed, one of my concerns is that I have moved house a few times, have coaxed the A5...
WOW, Chord are sure on a roll, and looking to cater to Naim owners too. The Qutest now has adjustable volume output 1V, 2V or 3V, and the same FPGA as Hugo 2. What it doesn't say is that one can use the Blu2 upsampler with the latest DAC, and get state of the art digital conversion. Chord are on a roll - and I wonder if they will take all the market share in digital sources. They sure are making some really desirable products.
Can the Dansette stylus scales be any good? Not looked at any for ages, just happened to Google dansette for an obscure reason!
I knew I wasn't the only one that felt that it was definitely a possibility, especially with the SN2. My home demo reflects the same opinion as expressed in this review, and reinforces what my ears tell me. Some here have said that Naim used some kind of marketing hype to promote their products on their website when describing the SN2, especially the pre-amp section, not so, I call it reality! Is spending some money on room acoustic panels and getting the room sounding right first better than spending more money on the system?
As per the title. Has it been a lengthy process or have you been fortunate to go straight in at the full monty!?????
Hi all, It is in my plan to build the system around streaming and a turntable. Hence I am considering a Naim Nova. I have however seen that the Nova is sampling its analogues inputs. What is the reason for that? Does anyone has experience in using the Nova with a turntable? Will a MC cartridge be a waste on sampled input? Thanks beforehand.
Do the early NAC-52s with the chunky non philips non naim system remotes have slightly different socket design on the 52 and the 52 ps? I've just had an issue with a Burndy and it doesn't seem to fit. It's a non naim one that shall remain nameless (groan) but I wondered whether there was a logical reason? It's supposed to fit both 52ps and supercap. My naim burndy cable has different guiding lug shapes to the other Burndy so I'm thinking they might actually be different in the very early...
Guys, i know this has been debated ad nasuem but bear with me. Let’s assume: 282/HC = musical, dynamic, vibrant. 252/SC - musical, mature, vibrant. 552 - all of the above plus more. But assuming the 552 is out of reach so is 282/SC more akin to a 552 when it comes to dynamics? Discuss as you please chaps. Regards, Lindsay
Hi good people of the Forum, happy Sunday. I am taking my second system, the vinyl one, from 20th to 21st century so I have got rid, in a single stroke, of my Pioneer PL112D, SA-7300 and AR14s and have bought a very nice Linn Kolektor/LK85 combo and a Pro-Ject RPM 3 Carbon TT. The amps were a lucky casual find at a good price, the TT a careful choice based on heterogeneous factors. I now need a pair of speakers to match the Linn sonically, go into a bookshelf where the allowed height for...
Hello....can anyone give advise for a good neutral usb cable (regardless of electronic in use) which has great midrange crispness/attack (no soft edges and lazy warmth adds) and goes along with naim sound philosophy ? what do you guys have in use not to mess with naim tonal balance ?? thank you!
Anyone had compared the SQ between SN2+nDAC vs Superuniti Nova? At a glance their specs quite similar, both giving 80w per ch and sharc dsp.
I just received the years last upgrade, a Nac 272 bought via eBay. Unfortunately the Naim logo and display is flashing every other second. Its not loosing power, I can continue going through the menus when the display is on - its however not usable since I cant set it up. I have managed to restore factory settings, bit the problem persist. I have also tried turning it off for some time and removing and re-adding the link plug as well. Any suggestions or is it ”just” to locate the general...
I sort of bought DBLs by accident. I had seen a pair sell on ebay for under £3k, in black, recent full driver replacement and described as mint. Unfortunately they were in south east, no boxes and thus required a van, a ferry crossing and a thousand mile drive to collect so I held fire. But the thought was there that liquidating my SL2s would have gone a long way towards funding those. A few weeks later I popped into my local dealer, purely a social call as I was in the area at the time...
I know you don't turn the classic range off but do you have a method how you leave your equipment when not in use? i.e I leave my Supernait2 on mute and my NDX on a input I don't use as often. I don't know if this is a good thing or not. Many thanks
