Hi all, have I gone crazy. I was contemplating upgrading my olive 250 to a nice pair of 135s. Started researching the price and find that 2.5 to 3k is currently being asked on a well known auction site for what is basically two of half a 250 with a separate ps, earthing improvements and a fan. Now don’t get me wrong, some may say they are worth it but really! I would value these at around 1.3k unserviced or 1.8k possibly 2k serviced max. Maybe they are now so rare that this is the deal. If...

Lads I’m confused. Starting point: I have my external DAC (Metrum Pavane) connected to my 252 via RCA to RCA. Then, over on a streaming thread, I am advised that XLR to DIN sounds better (and is better) because: “The single-ended outputs [on the Pavane] use Lundahl output transformers to convert dual-differential into a single-ended signal, whereas the balanced outputs are driven directly from the Pavane's converters...” So I call my local Naim distributor to ask about the pros and cons of...

Tinkling glass, cat, door latch…………… The TRUE audiophile ! The private Investigations diversion in the “Where to go (if anywhere) from NAC 52?” thread has restored my belief in Hi-Fi in its truest sense. Forget “musicality” whatever that is ! Forget listening to a whole TRACK, never mind a whole SIDE of an album. Why would anyone in their right mind do that ? especially with HI-Fi equipment costing tens of thousands of pounds ! No ! it’s those little bits of background sound that creep...

Goodmorning everyone I hope I have not done damage to my devices, yesterday by chance I realized that the connections between the nac 62 to hicap to nap 150x were wrong. As I am new with Naim equipment, I kindly ask you how I need to connect the devices correctly. Also I have a flatcap2 that I used with the cd5, sold the cdplayer I have the flatcap, I can use it to feed only the final, and hicap only feeds the preamplifier. Thank you and sorry for my english.

I connected my ND5XS to the CD DIN-input of my NAC 202. Problem is that the signal is extremely strong so I have to turn down the volume to almost zero. What is the best input to use?

Having owned an active Naim system in the past I have been able to set the gain controls on the snaxo to complement the environment the system was in stalled in. This once set up correctly would then never be touched again and meant that in the most challenging of rooms I was able to get the very best out of my system. I have as so many on this forum purchased a mu-so for other rooms around the house but feel it would really benefit from having the same controls as it has the correct amount...

can anyone recommend any UK hifi magazines?

I rarely listen to other (non-naim) interconnects in my system; I find that other cables are anemic and create severe balance problems in an all-naim system context, but Chord cables are known for their synergy with naim. I got the Chord Music din-din interconnect for a home demo and compared it to my SuperLumina and Hi-Line cables. To make a long story short, I prefer the naim interconnects. The Chord is a very capable cable, but it's not the sound for me. Willful and too many 'ideas'.

Hi all. I am thinking of upgrading my N272 to a 252 + SC. But the price is a bit punchy so am looking at second hand. I think I can distil it down to this simple question: Is a serviced 252 as good as a new one, no matter how old it is? Another way of asking it is would you buy a 15 year old one for £2,800 or a 5 year old one for £4,000?

All, I'm canvasing some views on what next on the upgrade path: Current system: ND5-XS, 282, (with recently recapped Hi-Cap), recently serviced 200 into Royd RR2. I also have an LP12, stage line and headline (both powered by a Flatcap 2), but streaming is my primary source now. So, I was thinking on what the next best bang for buck upgrade would be? A beter streaming source (or DAC)? An XPS for the ND5? Supercap (DR?) the 282? Add an additional hi-cap to the 282? Change the 200 for a 250 DR?

after a short battle with her indoors I decided/was told that kudos c20 had to go as they dominated the room, so I looked at alternatives and I had a pair of linn sara that Could be placed against the wall. now it turns out they are early sara 9’s so result, and I have swapped Kudos for a nac 82 that was serviced and fitted pots 8 in December. just received today and set up in quick sticks, then put on talk talk colour of spring, wow it sounds absolutely fantastic, it sounded good before but...

Current system is NDX/NAC52/NAP500/S600. The NAC52 is pretty old and has not been serviced. Nonetheless it all sounds pretty good - but I have a bit of a NaimNiggle that things might be even better if I do something about the NAC52, or possibly the NAP500. Options are Service the NAC52 (it is pre-POTS 8, I believe), change to 252 or (I don't think I can do this) 552 (2nd hand in either case - can't afford new) or some other NAC, or go to a passive pre-amp (in which case I have no idea what)...

I'm making the assumption that my CD5XS when set up as a transport won't benefit from a HiCap. TIA

Hi all, I have the following system: NAP200 + NAC202 + HiCap2 + NAPSC I wanted to try the system without any optional PSUs meaning only NAP200 powering the NAC202. I connected this way but the NAC202 would not power up. Hmmm, I thought I didn't connect the DIN4 good enough so I removed it and plugged it back. Nope, still nothing and I turned it back on and off quickly I guess and pooof! The fuse blew. Then I realized that I was missing the plug thing/piece that is RIGHT next to the Standard...

I have a Keith Monks Discovery RCM which has worked very well for me over a number of years. Unfortunately, I haven't used the machine for a few months, and it appears that the suction tubing has become pretty blocked, because the amount of suction is nowhere near what it ought to be. I am pretty sure the problem is the a tube blockage and not the pump itself which sounds fine. There is quite a bit of discolouring of sections of the tubing (especially at the outlet end) pointing to a likely...

Hi, I’m currently running RP8, Aria, UntiServe, N272, XPSDR, 250DR into SL2s with NacA5 and two powerlines. The system is sited on handmade solid oak shelves in the same configuration as a HI-FI Racks shelving system with oak isolation platforms. These were made by a joiner based in the midlands and are excellent quality and finish. The system looks and sounds good but I wonder whether it would be beneficial from a sound quality perspective to replace the rack with a Fraim or Fraim Lite.

Hi from Italy, I moved to another house, and I need to set up again my Naim hi fi. Since I missed the manuals, can anybody tell me which is the plug direction of the 4 pin cable? I don't want to make mistakes... Thank you. Alberto

My 4 tier Fraim is several years old and still looking great but I decided it was time for a thorough checkover, clean and tightening up of nuts and bolts and levelling etc. I have also bought 3 sets of genuine Naim shelf locators at an extortionate price but they will stop balls flying everywhere if you’ll pardon the expression. Before I affix the plastic cups on the glass shelves to prevent them moving I would be grateful if anybody knows whether the shelves should actually touch the short...

Two questions regarding the original Unitiqute (1): Did this come in two versions (96khz versus 192)? If so, what series number is the changeover? and Does it have a Bluetooth module? Justin

Well it finally happened, and I am letting my new 552 settle down and enjoying its mood swings... certainly sounds rather impressive as you woul expect in my system... it’s interesting how certain very familiar tracks do sound different from my 252DR, almost as if the mixer levels for the instruments are different.... and yes on my 252 you could follow the instruments, but with the 552 you can follow but also get more of the subtle inflexions and timing in those embedded instruments... also...

Can anyone tell me the root cause of not using the Din and RCA simoustaneously ? Someone said it will develop a ground loop, another one said the "unbuffered" output, someone said leaving both active will cause signals interferences...etc. In fact, I can't hear the difference maybe due to the luck of poor auditability. I use both outputs of CD 5si to a pair of Nait 5si to drive the tweeter and mid-low separately. I have a good DAC with dual 9038pro chips, the output of RCA and XLR are also...

Obviously when one puts one’s ear by a tweeter with no music playing, it is expected that there is still white noise coming out - in every case, regardless as to how ultimate the system and speakers are. That being said, assuming the ‘perfect’ setup, is this the ONLY sound one might expect? No electronic hum albeit small? I ask as does the electronic hum suggest improper installation somewhere? (You may jest at this question, but reading the forum and activities some do, justifies any...

for nac a5, minimum recommended length for naim amps is 3.5 meters. optimal length is 5 meters. what would be the recommended lengths for chord odyssey for naim amps - given its own specs for inductance, resistance etc. appreciate the insights.
