After a long and, all considered, silly debate with myself about the Core/Nova affaire , I followed the suggestion of my trusted technician (from the only Italian authorized Naim lab: necessary clarification to avoid the good man being called by someone, for the second time, 'a secondary businessman interested in after sales market') and took my CDX2 to him for a complete reconstruction: which doesn't mean a new mechanism (the old, original 1250 was still going fine) or a partial recap, but...
On the used market the hugely celebrated Chord Hugo 1 now sells for an average £650. So if you are looking to try one now is the time at less than 50% of the rrp it has to be one of the bargains of the year. Strangely the Chord 2Qute which cost only 70% of the Hugo 1 new still fetches £750.
What naim power amp would drive the pmc fact 12 speakers.
I have a standard issue LP12 circa 1990 that apart from cartridges has only ever had one upgrade the Cirkus bearing. Next year I was intending to spend a bit of money upgrading the deck and when I say a bit I mean a bit so Keel, Stiletto and anything in that bracket are not a possibility for me. At present I have an Ittock LV II, a Benz Micro Ace SL (which I've only just got) and a Lingo Mk1. So what advice do you have about what I should do ? I have around £1,000 to spend and buying used...
need some advice regarding the best record-cleaning machine. I now have a nitty gritty machine pretty basic seems to do a fair job but is there a Truly superior machine?
Hello, I’m planning to upgrade my system from SuperNait2 + Hicap2 DR to NAC252/SuperCap-DR/NAP300-DR. I’ll buy it new. The NAP300DR was updated in 2015. The NAC 252 was released in 2002 and wasn’t refreshed since then. Does it make sense to buy the NAC252 now? Or should I wait for a potential refreshed/updated version? Thank you for your advices. Thomas
I brought home a used Burson Soloist HP amp, fit it on my rack, powered it up and immediately began listening to a familiar CD. Amazing the detectable swings it went through from cold. First sloppy, sweepy highs with prominent mids. Next the mids gained balance with the bottom girth growing. With more time the highs got right while the bottom end gained correct presence. Took about 30 minutes before the sound really settled. This from a HP amp noted for its minimal parts. The rest of my...
I was reading a review of the new Tannoy Eaton on AVForums and the reviewer mentioned a make that I hadn't heard of before. The Q Acoustics Concept 500 floorstanders have been supplanted as their top choice by the new Eaton in his opinion. Generally I don't put much stock in reviews preferring to find out for myself when I can. As far as I can tell Q Acoustics don't have a presence here yet so auditioning a pair isn't easily doable. Has anybody had a chance to give these a listen? Better yet...
Hi Folks I'm going to look into the above soon as I'd like more power to my Spendor S3/5R-2 speakers as I'm told they respond well to 'better' amplification & I don't always feel the Nait really 'gets hold' of them. 200DR & 250DR are on the cards to go with the XS as pre (for the time being) & HiCapDR which I already have. Intend to demo both units but interested to hear of experiences with a similar setup etc...? Enjoy the music!
I've been watching the various topics on this forum regarding the 272 and I cannot get around the impression that it is very popular for most of the users. Nevertheless, it pops up frequently on online marketplaces and as ex-demo / trade-in at dealers. Always at least a handful available. Why do people sell it if it is so great? Ardbeg (who is trying to resist the temptation to buy one in 2017).
Curious about thoughts from people who went from the Nap300 to the Nap300DR. Is it worth the trouble/hassle to do this? The 250 to the 250DR - totally different amp. Not sure why Naim sticks with the 250 monicker - the amps really sound totally different. From 300 to the 300DR -> Again - is it a different enough amp that if I like what the 300 does, I should wait until it needs a recap to do the DRing (these are from 2015, I think..). Or is it the 300, just better - lower noise floor etc?
Having spent some tine determining whether a set of Fraim tables was the way forward, it was gratifying that the wait between order placed and box arrival was a matter of a few days. With only an hour or so before needing to go out, I decided that I would just have time to build the first base. Bother, the box had the wrong ‘lite shelves instead of full Fraim shelves. Opened second base box and the same wrong shelves were there. Were my expectations incorrect, all the other bits were there?
... but will be well worth the wait. Just placed an order for a new NAP500DR. Probably need to wait up to 10 weeks for delivery - but I will certainly have something to look forward to in January. Anyone with good memories, will recall I have been running a “wonky active” system for about 10 years. It started with 250/250/300, a more challenging 250/300/500 and and is currently 300/500/500. More recently I have had the SNAXO set by Naim to account for the 300. Not that I will be quite there...
Gents, Question to Richard Dane or Phil Harris: The new B&W 804 D3 has a very low impedance of 1.3 Ohms at 100-200 Hz In the range between 80 and 1000 Hz the impedance is below 2.5 Ohms. On the other hand there is an impedance peak of 12 Ohms at 45 Hz. See this multi-speaker test (in Dutch). 1) Will the Uniti Nova and the SuperUniti be able to drive this low impedance speaker? (of course using short and high gauge cables) 2) Is there any difference in amplifier performance between...
Brand new to the forum but with a 20+ year old system (you're never too old to learn). My very ancient system still sounds great to my ears but is the only one I've known for over 20 years & consists of a CD3; NAP140 & NAC72 with hi-cap (all 2nd hand); Monitor Audio Studio 6's (also 2nd hand) & Rega Planar 3. I've had the CD3 serviced with a few new bits but apart from that nothing has been touched. My question to you lovely people is this.....would a £500 ish injection improve...
so, my two obvious short falls now are the din-xlrs and the 135s sticking with the 135s the obvious choice is 500 but that does mean 3 of them even S/H this will involve a cost one way of easing this burden is to buy non DR and in need of a service amps on the basis a in need of a service 500 is going to be much better than newly serviced 135s. This may involve a period of wonky active but I don’t see a way round that. My biggest concern with the above is getting them DRed and the subsequent...

Hi. Newby question again.... what is the best way to connect my new Supernait 2 with an oppo sonica DAC. The DAC has RCA and also balanced XLR inputs. My budget would be 100 GBP. Thanks in advance
Ive had an old chrome red light Hicap since the summer, was on my stage line until i Got my nac202. Was then using powered aux2 for the stage line, sounded good but missing something. Anyway today I picked up another chrome Hicap to go on the Stageline so should be back to the good stuff again ;-) Interestingly its a 1988 chrome bumper but has an inline fuse holder on the iec like olive and current.... I guess i should call up Sheila at Naim to see if they did a service on it.... possibly...
Ok, I discovered a strange phenomenon that I was not previously aware of today, and also had a stressful afternoon as I thought i'd fried my 135's! Following my other thread on the UQ and second system, I recently removed the link plug from the rear of my 32.5, and swapped the 4 pin Snaic to a 5 pin type. Previously I could swap the XLR cable on the back of the 135's into each of the sockets and they would work through each channel, however, since installing the 5 pin Snaic, only one of the...
I’ve recently bought an Naim i-Supply with intention to power my Stageline and connect it with Nait 5i. I found Naim schematics how to connect Stageline with Naim 5i using i-Supply. I see that the specs on the Naim Web site indicate a 24v input for the Stageline. Sticker on i-Supply indicate Input Power: 9VA. There is no indication of Output Power, so I am wondering is it 24v, which is needed for Stageline to work?
Maybe Adam Meredith or Richard Dane knows the answer about this one, but are these made of the same type of cable? Just a curiosity. I wonder if Naim ever tried replacing the XLR inputs on a NAP250 with the standard DIN 4 input that is used on the NAP200, and if the cables are different, did it perform better? Again, no particular relevance but just a curiosity. Another curiosity is that the Hi-Line didn't work out for DIN/XLR duties (which is the preamp to power amp connection) as it is...
I am looking at buying the nap NAP 155xs, 200 (non dr) or 250 2 (non dr) to fit with my 152xs / flatcap (both upgrades connected to the 152) / headline + Meridian ms600. I intend to use the old Linn Kan Mk1 together with the N-sub connected to a DS Speaker antimode that helps out with base issues in my room. The reason I want to stick with the Kans is that the base they produce don't aggravate my room + I need speakers that go close to my back wall and I haven't found a better alternative +...
Hi All Currently, have a Unitiqute 2 with some Kef R500's. Love the Kefs but going to upgrade the Qute. Have my eye on the new Nova but have reservations about investing that much money in a one box setup. I know the price of a Nova new isn't going to get me much of a seprates system, but what would you do? Ps I only stream my music and use Tidal FLAC, also use the Qute for the TV as the Tv speakers are pants! Many thanks
Is the standard Lavender interconnect cable suitable (remove the din plugs and connect ca plugs) as a low capacitance phonocable between TT and phonoamp? What capacity value has the Lavender with a length of 1,2 m?
