I have the chance to upgrade by trade in my 250DR + my DAC to a new 300DR. With this, I would step-up the amp footchain but step down from a super DAC to a 2000-2400 €£$ DAC level. So my question to the 300DR owners out there-is it that bang for the money? Or is it still source first? Other source is a LP12, speakers are Sopra2. I don‘t listen loud music levels (if this may be important...) Thanks folks!

I appreciate it's not, nor should it be, mandatory, but the number of contributors who decline, or simply can't be bothered, to include details of their system within their profile amazes me. Whenever a member is critical or judgemental about another's opinion, or choice, of a piece of equipment (in particular loudspeakers or cables) I always find it interesting to look at their preferences, which are often not mentioned in the thread. I can't give percentages, but it's quite a number who...

Need to pick my fellow Forum friends' brains before I turn to the Support. My vintage, olive set (72 / HiCap / 250) was re-capped in October 2016 and has been a joy to listen to. It's paired with Quad ESL-63s. I use it every day, as my office set. During the last 2-3 weeks I noticed that every second or so day, NAP 250 'mutes' itself overnight. Unplugging it, waiting for the caps to discharge and powering it up again helps. Any theories what may be causing this? Thanks

I am very satisfied with my home system; Superuniti/250DR in the lounge, Mu-so in the dining room, Mu-so Qb in the kitchen all fed from a QNAP, my problem is on the road. My current solution is a Apple IPod Classic (160GB) with all my music compressed to mp3. This is OK for Pop/Rock but most of my music is Classical and much of that have single pieces of music broken into multiple tracks. With FLAC on my home system this is gapless but with mp3 loud clicks or to be more precise "anticlicks"...

Hi all, Hi all Back in year 2000 when I bought my first naim system (3.5, 92r/180, hicap) I purchased the Apollo S5 rack to sit it on (see photo). Well fast track to today I now have the NDX, XPS-DR, 282, hicap, 200, soon to be upgrading to 250-Dr, SC-DR. my question is, how do these old rack perform? Sorry for the silly question but it is all I have ever had and know so haven’t ever experienced rack SQ differences. I do appreciate that spending some half decent wedge on a rack I could have...

Is anyone using a combination of Music and Sarum T rather than a full loom? Does anyone have a view on the approach? the technology involved is very similar. I have a CD555, 555PSDR and 552DR connected via 2 Sarum T power leads to an Isol-8 PowerLine mains conditioner and then via a Music power lead to the wall. A 300DR is connected directly to the wall via a third Sarum T power lead. The two wall sockets are on separate MCBs within a dedicated consumer unit. All other cables (RCA...

I’m considering my next (black box) upgrade and am pretty certain what that’s to be … but in case I’ve let myself become too blinkered – it’s happened before and wise forum comments helped me see beyond the blinkers – I’m asking what others would consider. I hold the view that the end result is only as good as the weakest link and whilst that may be anything from the original recording to the state of my hearing, I’m restricting my options to the beautiful block boxes which presently sit on...

A sign of the times maybe, but a January price rise of 4% for the U.K due to Brexit again is feeble with the pound rising. Just tell us you have rewarded your staff, for a difficult year due to management decisions that did not work out? Used to be April for a price rise, now its?

Starting a longish journey. Somewhat inspired by the recent offering at the Warsaw Audioshow 2017. A highlight of a show for me was a demo of Hegel boxes powering a set of rather impressive Trenner & Friedl 'Taliesin' speakers. That was just pure music - who cares about the boxes if they produce such magic :) They only have one small 'problem' - a pair retails for nearly EUR 80k.. Back to reality.... First set arrived home today, delivered and set up by my long-suffering dealer. I...

The last (and only) two topics that started with the word 'Blimey' have been shut down by the Moderator for different (but valid) reasons. Richard has suggested I start another thread so here goes. My 'Blimey' topic was primarily about the wonders of the PS555DR which I am trialling at home. You may recall how I waxed lyrical about how wonderful some well-known (to me) artists sound with the addition of the 555DR, namely Chris Stapleton, Dianna Krall, Lizz wright and I can now add to this...

Hi I recently bought a NAC 62 with Phono 323/5 MC cards, unfortunately with my Denon dl 103 cartridge, I do get a very gloomy sound, perhaps because of the absence of the step-up I used with non-Naim devices. I currently have only MM heads I wonder if you can use these cartridge on MC cards or risk something. Best Regards

I have a bit of a dilemma. My system has outgrown the table I have and getting another table to match it is impossible. Another solution is needed. The room re-arrangement has made the need for a better solution more aesthetically necessary. I am (naturally) drawn to Fraim. 99.9% of Naim users have it so it must be good. Indeed, I can really only countenance Naim as most other table solutions are either fugly or really really fugly (in my and my wife's views). I have borrowed a small stack...

Can you convert S/L speaker cable to signal cable by changing the plugs at the ends? More specifically, I have 5m S/L speaker leads and I want to change from passive to active amplification, so can I re-terminate the 5m lengths from 4mm speaker plugs to din and XLR (dual mono leads, in fact) ? (When I say 'I' here, I mean Naim... could Naim re-terminate these cables) ...or is there a fundamental difference between the speaker version and the signal versions of S/L that I have failed to ...

All my searches to date on opinions or feedback against SVS Ultra results in talk about Sub’s which SVS are principally known for. Wondering if anybody has experience in partnering Naim with SVS Ultra Bookshelf’s? My thought is to add these to an nSub for a combination of AV and Music (electronica and rock primarily). Moderated post: Link removed. Crispin, please don't post unauthorised links in the Hifi Corner, Thanks.

I've had my Nova for just over a week now and thought it might be worth posting about my experience as I gather there are a few on here considering this move and the Nova thread in the Streaming Forum is mainly about individuals' particular issues. Some background: I moved from a multi box olive system (CDS2/52/135s) to a Uniti and then Superuniti pretty much as soon as they came out and have been very happy, especially with the SU. Listening to the SU just before I did the deal I thought...

My blood drained from my face as I “tested” a 4-pin DiN to 2xRCA cable (chord chrysalis) between my DAC-V1 and NAP150x. The smell of electrical burning! Argh!! Turn everything off. This was test two. Test one was Naim Snaic 4-pin-DIN to 4-Pin-DIN. Both channels working - I was testing that my NAP was okay. Then I plugged the offending cable. Only one channel working... then the burning small..then masses of feedback... OFF!!! I had no idea an interconnect (good quality i thought) could do so...

I'm curious about the differences between a 250 DR and a 300 Non DR Has anyone been able to compare these with a 282/HC?

I read some interesting reviews about the Audioquest Niagara 1000. It all sounds very promising...... Is there anyone who tested this peace of equipment in combination with NAIM audio equipment? Thanks in advance for replies!

I don’t have the budget for a NAP100 to accompany my DAC-V1. I was wondering if I could use a shoebox classic like the NAP140. Would be used to power either a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.1’s or nSats in a small room at mid volumes.

Hello all, I am currently testing a Devialet D400 (actually, a pair of D200's) and I have a good old pair of Naim SBL's. I would like to try using the built-in high/low-pass filters in the D200 to run the SBL's in active mode. Has anyone done that experiment yet? What is the correct crossover frequency for the SBL's? Thanks a lot, Pierre

Hi, I have an HDX on home loan demo, and nice it sounds , but I can hear a high pitched sound with no music playing, which can just be heard over very low level music eg night time playing. The sound is from the unit not the speakers, almost like the noise from a TV. This is not loud but is noticable in the room to different degrees depending on node boost. Everything is working perfect.is this s characteristic of this unit. Thanks

Hey everybody, I have the opportunity to buy a pair of Allae at a very honest price (without being able to listen to them though, the seller is not near by) Can anybody tell me the difference between Allae and Intro ? These would be my very first pair of floorstanding speakers as I'm more inclined to standmounters (owned Quad 11L, B&W CM1, Dali Menuet, Leema Xero, and my current B&W PM1 which sounds very good) TBH, I'm very curious to know how these will sound with My Uniti ATOM and...

I have been messing about with some other quite expensive cables but have just put the standard grey Naim 5 Pin Din cable back in the system and it sounds so good Why is that ? I have it between the Dac and the SN2 The cable looks kind of cheap but it sounds lovely... I can't make it out

I went on the factory tour organised by my dealer on 24 November. It was interesting and we had the fortune to have Jason take us round. He has a wealth of knowledge and we learned lots of interesting things. One new to me was that besides the cables being directional so are the fuses within the IEC connector and perhaps even the mains plug! Jason went as far as to say that it is a big difference. The orientation is defined by the end which has the kite mark. It’s another case of something...
