I did a demo last week at a dealers of a 250DR and used my NAP200 (non DR) as a reference. I was very surprised that their was virtually no difference. The dealer also agreed their was virtually no difference. Leaving the dealers i really wondered why there was no difference. All report i have read say it is a big step. The source that the dealer used was a Supernait 2 rather than a dedicated pre-amp. Could this be the reason I could not hear any difference? Or maybe my ears are at the limit...
Hey guys, Perhaps this has been asked but can anyone confirm that the Star and/or Nova has a HT Bypass/AV Gain setting for the Analog In input? Thanks
Is this line of products dead or can we expect some new developments? Devices like the Sonore ultraRendu and the SOtM sMS-200ultra are very popular and call for outstanding USB DACs. Chord comes to mind. Has Naim given up on DACs?
I just returned from 10 days holiday and having powered down everything, I turned on my equipment, one by one, slowly, to allow the capacitors to "fill". As always seems to be the case when turning on after a prolonged power-down, the mains fuse inside the XPS2 popped. So, I dragged my rack out, removed the XPS2 to gain access to the fuse cover, only to find that the fuse glass had popped too. This of course meant the end caps of the fuse were still inside the machine. In trying to remove...
we're looking to change speakers after upgrading hicaps to DRs for a Supernait and stageline and a new arm and cart for the RP6. i've been looking for a while and nothing has come up and now there's a pair of local 10s that i can kind of afford. what i'm hoping for is that they are miles better than our Totem Hawks and not just different or a side move. there is almost no info on these so research is tough and it's really hard to tell at the shop because it's not setup too well. maybe...
I am looking to buy a s/h Unitilite or (or a Uniti if the price is reasonable). I wonder if its possible to connect a turntable via pre-amp to the analog input on either of these? Thanks, Jim
hello there, i need a little bit help for my system:) my system is LV Auditorium R2, Lavardin IS Ref, Acrolink 7n-s1010 and Acoustic Revive Line 1.0R. first, Im looking for a good source i heard Naim CD5XS and i really liked him but i dont know how he will be fit to my system, what do you think about the combination? second, i saw in Lavardin website that the cables must be in low capacitance, but my cables dont have a low capacitance unfortunately, Is this critical? Thanks Omri:)
Dear folks, I come across a dilemma that I don't know how to choose between the captioned power amp. Well, my listening area is not large and I plan to upgrade my existing devices to NDX/555PS/NAC252/SC/NAP250DR or NAP200DR. CDS3/XPS2 is my main source in listening music definitely. Is there any existing users that can share the experience of the performance of NAC252 and advise if the NAP200DR is a well-balanced combination? I understand that there is a gap between the preamp and the power...
I plan to activate my DBLs run passive for years. Obviously amongst other things I ll need a Snaxo 362. The BMR version was made for the Ovator speaker. Can naim adjust the BMR version that it will work with DBLs as well, or is just the "standard" Snaxo 362 my only choice. My understanding is that the Snaxo BMR has a suspended chassis similar to the 552 and the superline. Thanks for clarification, Franz
Hi everyone, long time no see. I can't find this Q with Search, so here goes... Simplification over the summer saw me changing from CDX2/202/HCDR/PSC to 272 with my existing 155 into Kudos C10s 'mk2'. The streaming side is fine. I've ripped nearly all of my CDs to NAS using dbPowerAmp and iMac. But my preferred source is vinyl. LP12 (cirkus/Tramp2/Lingo2 w Nima/Delos/PrefixS-HCDR) and compared with streaming, and most certainly compared with the old preamp, vinyl reproduction is flat and...
Dear all, Which of the (older ?) NAIM Pre-Amps has an internal power supply + RC? It could be even be a “vintage” type, (including Chrome bumper, olive green), but of course also a somewhat newer model. Essential, as mentioned: Stand-alone unit, with Internal power supply AND Remote Control (Chrome bumper will not qualify here, I guess Thanks for you info Regards Urs PS: it is intended for my "stand-by" & office - HIFI System, with active monitors
Interesting and enthusiastic review of the Nova in the Nov issue of HFN & RR. "Outstanding Product". I expect Naim will put it on their website, which will help if you don't want to buy the magazine or stand for 5 mins in WHS reading it! best David
Ready to buy to new NAC552DR, my system: NAP300DR, CDS3/555PSDR, Spendor Classic 100R2. NACS552 has been manufactured for close to 25-years, with DR upgrade to power supply in recent years, but has preamp been otherwise upgraded? I mention this after noticing similar generation NAP500DR had multiple changes when DR was added. Does anyone feel NAC552DR while good, is never the less a questionable purchase given its age and perhaps relevance to changes in sources? Thank you for attention to...
Hi there from a newbie, ive bought some used Spendor A5's that i heard powered by a Rega Elex r and i really liked them. However with my current system of Audiolab 8200a as a pre into a hand made (dont the maker) valve theres a little lacking in clarity around the bass and the depth is missing. The Audiolab running as an integrated only gives some more bite and clarity back but still not as much as the Rega. I have an option of buying a Nait XS for a decent ish price. Heres my question to...
Hi I run my current NDS with a reasonably elderly 555ps .... it sounds fantastic ..... however, has anybody here had the experience of upgrading to a 555dr in the context of it supplying an NDS.... is there a substantive improvement?
Tomorrow the new Technics SL 1210 GR direct drive turntable will be in the house. The Audio Technica VM 540 ML mm cart will go in the tonearm (follow up of the 440). That must be my last turntable i ever buy new and will own No not a belt drive like the new Planar 3 or a nice Pro-ject, but a Technics with the new coreless direct drive motor and some other improvements over the latest MK5 model. I like the rock solid construction, immunity to acoustic feedback and it's functional Japanse...
just part exchanged my ex dem 282 for dealers ex dem 252 just plugged it into my system so first impressions from cold are the musicians and singers sounds like they are in the room with me i am looking forward to having a good listen when all the units are warmed up. i am playing a download of Diana Krall her voice is so clear ( sounded a bit hard on the 282) I noticed this since going from 250 dr to 300 dr bass is also very tight the 282 was great but I know think with 252/300 everything...
Hi Guys, I currently have a 152/155xs system with xs flatcap providing additional power and a CD5 xs being powered by a standard flatcap (Not xs) and Dali menuet II speakers but I want to introduce headphones to my system. Now I don't want to add to the box count so if I sold my 152/155 and flatcaps and replaced this with a Supernait 2 what effect would this have on my current sound - positive/negative?? Any thoughts would be appreciated regards Stimmy
I know this issues been thrashed, but I'm trying to clarify things for my system. Rack is double width (1200 mm) and has 4 shelves. I plan to put brains on the left and brawn on the right. Order of brains from top to bottom: Turntable; NAC202; Phonostage; CD player. Not sure about the order of the NAC, phonostage, CD player? Order of the brawn from top to bottom: Turntable PSU; NAPSC; IsoTek EVO3 Aquarius Power Conditioner; NAP200DR. Not sure about this order either? Also, should IsoTek be...
the NDS is now more than 5 years old. Thinking about the speed of changes in connectivity and chips (Moore s law), you cannot help thinking that a hardware upgrade is on the way, independently from the software ...? Does it then make sense to buy one today? In fact is it still competitive? Thanks for your views
Over the years, I have upgraded Naim cdp's, amps, and pre-amps to 555/552/300. I installed the Devialet D400 mono-blocks a few months ago, connected to Verity Parsifal Ovation speakers (same as with Naim kit). I have also added a Naim Unitiserve as part of a shift away from cd's toward streaming. The Devi combined with streaming has allowed me to replace 6 major Naim components (amp/cdp/pre and their separate power supplies) and eliminate a high quality PS Audio outboard DAC and phono pre.
When increasing/decreasing the volume of my (new) 272 there is, simultaneously with the increasing/deacreasing figures showed on the 272 display, an "electric click" into the woofer from the RH speaker produced ......It starts at higher volumes ( 25 and higher). Anyone familiar with this phenomenon?? (Configuration: N272 with XP5XS and NAP250DR). Thank you in advance!!
Hi folks, have just joined as you can guess from the name. Current system ; from my student days (don,t laugh to much), STD turntable linn basic arm, Sansui AU-D9 amp, Cambridge Audio CD player and Mission 770 speakers. Have just been given some equipment from an old friend who has an incredible system, A pair of Naim SBL speakers a Lin Karik CD player and a Linn Kairn pre amp. So obviously will need a power amp, cables etc. Will have a budget approx £1000 so any suggestions? I can see that...
Pre-out RCA leads don’t seem to work connected to my Bryston headphone amp. Unit is brand new this past weekend. Why? Any suggestions.
