richard, is there a way to send you a draft posting, to ensure you are ok with it, rather than posting and then you having to moderate afterwards?
Had a few spare moments at work today, so had a look at the Naim site and the section listing the serial numbers by year of their sales. decided to put thus into an excel sheet and graph the results. shown above is the result of how many Naim units were sold per year, and can clearly show their growth over the years. it also shows a downward trend in last 3 years. obviously this is basic stuff, and cannot break down the numbers to type of sale, but interesting none the less
We had a day out yesterday with grandson visiting the ancient history sites around Wiltshire & was amazed by the numbers of overseas tourists. At 09:00 we arrived at Silbury Hill & took walk across fields & climb up to the remote West Kent Long Barrow. Going up to, at the barrow & coming back we met or identified US, German & 3 groups of unidentified overseas & only 2 brits (remember this is a remote hillside barrow (tomb)) Next a mile down the road to The Sanctuary,...
Statistics from Public Health England, covered in the press today, reveal that 40% of 40 to 60 year olds don't manage even 10 minutes of brisk walking once a month. For someone for walks or goes to the gym every day this seems pretty unbelievable, but clearly huge swathes of the population are a lot more inactive than me. Of course I'm not working so I have plenty of time for exercise, and the shops are only a ten minute walk away. But with more housing far from shops, getting into the car...
Ok, this is intended as the antidote to the recent threads named after the president of this country. The USA is not somewhere that has ever attracted me as a holiday destination, based on impressions I have of the country gleaned over years from movies and news, while some contributions on those closed threads reinforced my worst impressions. However, I do recognise that the sources of my impression of the USA means it is probably quite distorted, and from documentaries I know there are...
Twig, one of our Lurchers, is in dog hospital tonight thanks to a suspected case of blue-green algae poisoning. He probably lived for much of his life outdoors and so has a taste for pond water in preference to the many clean water bowls around and about the house. He was off his food at supper time - very odd when it's raw steak, eggs, carrots and kale -and then I found him salivating and with uncontrollable bowel evacuations. A call to the vet and the prognosis was a real shock - probable...
Okay so there is a thread "What is your favourite picture" ... but lets turn that on its head. What acclaimed picture / artist (modern or historical) do you think is over rated? What picture do you just not get the appeal of. To quote Graham Norton (omg ... yes sometimes in the car on a weekend) ... "I can't believe its not better!". So my entry in the "WTF! Why?" category... Don't get me wrong ... I see great artistry and beauty, even genius, in much of Van Gough's work ... but this ...
Thought I'd like to liven up the gazing individuals amongst us. Art is a funny thing, for me it's got to be a painting. I could be very happy looking at a modern painting of a painter painting paint. As it's just a painter at the end of the day just painting !! from what I have seen in the few museums and galleries I have visited, by far the best has been at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. In particular the Dutch Masters. Those small exquisitely detailed paintings. Johanasse Vermeer is perhaps...

Well, whilst being a pedestrian, I've just been hit again. That makes 3 times in the last year, fortunately nothing serious. Once whilst walking on the pavement, I was hit by a car wing mirror. This driver stopped to see if I was OK (just a minor bruise - no problem) and it was a genuine and simple slight misjudgement on his part - so a genuine accident and these things happen. The other two were at roundabouts where vehicles have turned into me whilst I've been crossing at the junction.
One for [@mention:1566878603942595] I think. Notice today, that something hads changed with the Forum Log On. My usual 'autocomplete' didn't work - and I noticed that Chrome was indicating (at top left) that the log On Page as 'Not Secure'. YMMV. IMO, Hoopla have changed something.
My son has about 1000 photos/movie clips saved on his ipod and defo on the device, not cloud. I'm trying to import them to PC but windows explorer, photos app etc. can only 'see' 20 photos to import..! Anyone got any ideas what's going on and what the fix is please?
Have just finished watching this (on DVD as don't have SKY Atlantic...) Still amusing but a little dark and sombre too often and I'm afraid for me didn't hit the highs of the first two series. I feel The Trip and Italy both had the balance tipped just that bit more towards the locations over Steve and Rob and were better for it. And I while I get the references to the men of adventure and his romantic outlook prompting Steve to do what he does at the end, it's an ending which doesn't really...
This question popped up in my mind recently: Why do we need large woofers to generate low frequency tones, but can our tiny eardrum hear them? Ardbeg10y
Sad to hear that Sir Bruce Forsyth has passed away. For me, like many, he was the face of Saturday night in the 1970s with his wife at the time, Anthea Redfern on The Generation game. Farewell Sir Bruce, and thank you.
Looks like Trump 2.0 has suffered the fate of it's predecessors. Perhaps we need a code or sign (no, not that sort of sign) to use instead of the word Trump? Ah well, I guess I'll have to concentrate on Brexit.
It appears that any thread that discusses Trump or any related issues, just ends up becoming highly divisive at best and offensive to many at worst. Rather than shining a spotlight on divisions, this forum should be focussed on what we have in common - a love of music, an desire for great hifi reproduction, and a mutual interest and appreciation in Naim. Therefore I am making this forum a Trump discussion-free zone. There are lots of other sites online where such discussion is perhaps more...
Hi, for some reason I now need to log in to the forum for each session. A real pain and one that is starting to limit my desire and enjoyment. Is it a hoopla thing or could it be a setting on my iPhone 7. The situation has only occurred over the past two weeks. Any help would be hopeful. Regards, Nick
I'm looking forward to the championships starting tomorrow. I never bothered registering last year, never queued up online and didn't take much interest when tickets went on sale and were vastly oversubscribed. I casually went on the official site yesterday, registered and bought tickets for the Saturday that I wanted in prime seats. Doesn't seem fair, considering the amount of effort others put in to buy them (or couldn't buy them) over the past 10 months or so Anyway, if you suddenly get...
I have to vent... so forgive me for ranting... I spent 8 hours in the mixing studio today, staring a first mix for my band's new album. Sound engineer made a complete dogs testes of the mix - somehow I left the studio hoping it will sound better at home. But playing back the two tracks file via my NDS / 252 / 300 / Ovators made it sound even more horrible. Is there an upside to this? In a way - home system sounded as good as a mixing desk one. What came out sounded as crap in the studio and...
Dear Administrator Can you please explain why my topic 'Frustrating Day in the studio...' is nowhere to be found? I posted it yesterday evening in the Padded Cell? If it's about copyright / ownership: I'm one of the album composers and its producer, so I own the rights to the recorded material. I look forward to hearing from you, Adam
Where is The Donald thread ??
Four-night trip to Vienna for first time next week. Booked flight, hotel and Mozart concert but nothing else. I know I need to go to a heurige. What else should we (two of us) see and do? [Generally up for art, music, lots of walking, eating, drinking, history - rather than excessive exercise stuff... Also, I think my clubbing days are probably behind me.]
Richard Dane has sometimes intervened to remind foreign posters not to use their native language because this is an English forum and everyone has a right to understand. Fair enough. Well, I sometimes read posts by English speaking posters so completely devoid of punctuation and with approximated grammar and spelling ( there for their , it's for its and the various Shirley or surly for surely , four or five lines without a single comma, no Capitals, etc) that I wonder if the same respect for...
