I always use my iPhone 6plus for the forum and yesterday I noticed that the text size has increased and when I reply to a post, the box in which I write has shrunk. It now only allows me to see one line at a time rather than everything I've written and there is no way to go back and check anything. Today I can no long like a reply, use the take action button or in fact use anything on the forum other than reply with the issues I've mentioned. I'm currently using an iPad and all is fine.
Which three books helped to make you the person you are today? I read all mine at school between the ages of 13 and 15. They are: Orwell's Animal Farm . Revolution and power, and the eventual realisation that power is corruptible. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye . Ostensibly a story of an alienated teenager, I've later come to think that Holden Caulfield might be a far more universal figure, simply trying to make sense of the phoney adult world. Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge . A...
Afternoon I find myself in the position of needing a new email address and an associated webpage for a new chapter in my life. Has anyone any simple advice about getting either? Is it better to use one company for both? Any recommendations? Pitfalls? Etc. I realise many others here have done this so forgive me seeking the benefit of your experience. Many thanks.
I've spent many years around swans either watching swan upping, fishing or twitching & have never (ever) seen any signs of calm cooperation of any sort with humans. These birds seem to know help is at hand if they can just paddle over to it - Amazing !!!
Can someone make me understand what is wrong with my understanding: In my mind - both Obama and now these new jokers are solving the wrong problem. the real issue is the unaffordable cost of healthcare / and the price gouging that hospitals do if you don't have insurance. I look at my bills / and they try to charge $500 - insurance pays them $200, and they take it. I remember a blood test in New Jersey. The cost without insurance was $800 insurance paid them $40. To be clear - those were the...
I'm always loathe to post about the NHS here. Too close to home, and the issues are extremely complex and not really suited to forum debate in my view. However: Please, please can I encourage people to get involved at a local level. I have a senior CCG role locally and we do a heap of public engagement activities, as I'm sure do all CCGs. These are through local surgeries, voluntary sector groups and also just open public meetings. These are run at various location and times to try to...
just a heads up for anyone who enjoys these Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan outings as much as I do. Series 3 begins in a few weeks, though you'll have to look for it as it's no longer on BBC but rather has migrated to SKY Atlantic.
Some of you may have come across this long running saga of dangerous tumble dryers from Whirlpool/Hotpoint. The ones that burst into flames and burn down people's houses? When the thing broke some time ago, I checked our own Hotpoint model no. against a list of 'dangerous' models and was relieved to find it not on the list. Anyhoo, the story has cropped up again and I noticed there is a 'new' online checker available, into which you also enter your serial number. Lo and behold our machine is...
Hugely disappointing game at Twickenham today. I was expecting a real nail biter but the game was over after 20 minutes. One team came to play the other to have a bit of a scrap. I think Scotland shaded the pushing and shoving but little else. Tell me Mr Cotter, what is the game plan when you are 15 down after as many minutes that you keep delaying your line-out with a pointless huddle, time and time again? The tip tackle should have been a red but in keeping the spectacle alive only added...
I live in Australia, and have ADSL+2 which is just moderate. Our Labor government decided about 10 odd years ago to build a 21st century super fast internet connection which would be FTTP. However when the conservative Liberal Party won the election they decided that people and business don't need super fast internet speeds so they chose the less favourable FTTN plan instead. That of course means slower service and speeds depending on how far away from the node we live, or indeed if we live...
I think this is the right place to post this. Can anyone suggest ways to stop my broadband connection dropping out when we take an incoming call? Any download or streaming hangs when the call is answered and only reconnects when it ends. We have tried multiple filters on the line and no change. Our broadband is otherwise stable (used to drop out recurrently but v rare now), and does not seem to do the same thing when the phone is used to ring out. Is this likely to be a line/BT problem or...
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/493608538/love-the-worlds-first-intelligent-turntable?ref=61fr6y How to take a simple concept and make it stupid, overly complex and unspeakably ugly. Throw in a bunch of pointless "features" for good measure.
After England's dismal performance in India, it's good to see the Aussies showing everybody how to win on the sub-continent. Using playing against India in India as a common opponent just shows the difference between the two teams and it was right for Cook to relinquish the captaincy ahead of the Ashes. lots of hard work ahead for Root and co, I hope he brings in some sense of adventure and urgency. Looking for June / July time frame holidays and wondering about Croatia. Any tips on where to go, not to go ? Any info / experiences appreciated James
Just a quick request. Has anyone come across any pillar/post type, solar powered lamps that actually work in British weather? I.E. with no sunshine. Thank you.
Oops. Next year the organisers will attempt to organise some refreshments in a beer manufacturing facility. Did Putin influence the result at the 11th hour? Did Moonlight win the electoral college but not the popular vote? I think we should be told. Bruce
Oh dear!
I officiate ice hockey games, and have for years. (For as long as my spine will allow anyway - probably not too much longer...my next birthday will start with a '6', and recovery time seems to lengthen each passing year!! I have 5 games this weekend - 4 to go tomorrow...) The US Olympic/National and Developmental Sled Hockey team was in town this week for practice and scrimmage (they need rinks with clear boards so the players on the bench can see what is taking place on the ice), and yours...
Richard, if this isn't allowed please delete. Last summer I managed to prang the cartridge on my RP8 which lead to a time consuming and frustrating interaction with my insurance company. The pain was also felt by one of my local dealers, Doug Brady, who were messed around by the insurance company who eventually sourced a cartridge from the other side of the country. A week or two ago I lost the right channel output from the new cartridge for no obvious reason and, in despair, phoned Doug...
Did a coin toss determine the outcome? Granted, the OT rules were written going in, but seems to me the Falcons should have at least had a possession. The Pat's offense had their shot against the Falcon's defense in OT. Shouldn't the Falcon's O had a final shot against the Pat's D?
I have an i-pad mini 4 with 128Gb and cellular connection, ie it has a GPS chip. I am planning to add OS digital mapping at 1:25,000 Explorer scale (to either save on buying yet more Explorer maps or to supplement those that I do buy). The two sources of maps that I am considering are [the OS direct] and [Memory Map]. OS offer a "Premium" service which includes the 1:25,000 Explorer maps at £19.99 per year. Download as much and as often as you like and use off-line. With the annual...
I was very sad to learn of the death of Steve Hewlett earlier today. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-39027583 His voice was distinctive and his programmes compelling, no more so than his coverage of Leveson on R4's The Media Show. I don't mind admitting that this is a bit of a Brian Redhead moment. RIP Steve Hewlett. Chris
Whilst I was away last week this bit of news appeared, and disappeared. Gene Cernan was the last to walk on the Moon and was the last of those that did still alive. He died aged 82yrs last week. Left me rather sad. My earliest definite memory is of the first Moon landing and I've always been captivated by their achievements with technologies that now seem so basic. They stepped into an unknown, much as the great explorers of the 16thC. At a distance of nearly 50 years though I wonder what...
I found this first episode of the three to be a total disappointment, very poor story line, poor narrative, even boarding on ridiculous, thatcher busts getting a bashing possibly the only highlight... Not even inclined to watch the next one...is it just me or am I expecting to much?
Weather Forecasters They do a brilliant job these days. I rely very much on the general BBC forecasts after the Ten O’Clock News to anticipate what I might be able to do tomorrow. However, I do sometimes get distracted…….. ……….my favourite forecaster these days is Louise Lear……… It’s got nothing to do with the accuracy of her forecasts….
