There is an interesting program on the National Geographic channel involving the real possibilities and complications of setting up a base and crew on the red planet. Part fictionalised and interpolated with contributions from scientists, it seems this is going to be the greatest journey mankind has ever undertaken in the history of exploration. It's not a question of if but when. I may not be around but it will definitely happen. Watch it if you can.

This morning I received a little (very) early Christmas present, the prize from a free competition put together by Audio Affair in Birmingham. I sort of half heartedly collect mugs from places, so nice to be able to add a Naim one to the cupboard (albeit a Muso one when I don't own a Muso) And I'm sure that tea will have more inky blackness. Or something. An extra bonus is that the USB stick came loaded with a Naim Label sampler, Collected_01. Less of a bonus is that one of the tracks just...

What's your take on the issue. FIFA aren't the best organisation to make moral/political judgements are they?

hi all , I have just picked up my Nap 250 back from service from Salisbury , upon getting home and looking at the job sheet it appears that , A , I have had my full service. B , parts used show a box and labels with all internal packaging. i did NOT have the unit returned with any packaging at all , even though it appears this is paid for in with the cost of my service , I phoned the dealer and they said, as I didn't take it in to them in a box and they put it in a box to send it away ,it...

Never thought I'd see the day. My brother was a HUGE Cubs fan, and when he passed away 30 years ago, the last thing I did before the casket was closed was put his Cubs hat in with him - I've always believed if I saw him on the other side he'd be wearing it.

The NEW £1 coin !! - Looks remarkably like the OLD thruppennybit !!.............. ............in more ways than one ! Yes, I know it has 12 sides v the old 8 sides And I know that "worth" varies too much across commodities, wages and investment, but........... ......the new £1 coin has about the same purchasing power of imported American goods as the old thruppenybit did back in 1950 (when I was a young lad)

Hey All, A friend sent me this NY Times article with the above title. Even though it is not about Naim gear I still thought it had a place in the "Hi-Fi Corner" as it is talking about higher fidelity listening to music - in this case in public spaces. I never posted something like this before, just thought it might be of interest especially if it is the start of a movement... http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/31/arts/music/london-listening-clubs-spiritland.html?_r=0 Enjoy, Gary - who lives a...

I am aware that there are quite a few people on this forum with pretty impressive knowledge about PCs and PC Systems, so I hope that someone might be able to give me a few suggestions about a strange problem I need to resolve. I have built my own PCs for many years, and also occasionally build computers for members of my family. The problem I need to resolve relates to a fairly high end PC I built for my Brother a year or so ago. I built this PC using a Fractal Design case, a modular Corsair...

"This is the Naim Audio forum - we cannot sanction discussion of modifications to internal components of Naim equipment and this also extends, at the Moderators' discretion, to products from other manufacturers. Modification extends to the use of 3rd party or home-made power supplies and any cabling that carries DC power between Naim equipment." 1st Party = Naim 2nd Party = ? 3rd Party = Well known manufactures that produce power supplies for Naim preamps. What is an example of 2nd Party?

For those considering an upgrade, I would hold off if you're using Pixelmator. Also, I've experienced networked drive issues, several times forcing me to quit and restart finder. Buggiest OSX release since Mavericks - and hardly justified given the minor updates from El Capitan... Cheers EJ

the rrumor comes from a Danish hifi site, but is probably out there in English also. No indication if a takeover would have any consequences for Naim. Claus

In tonight's episode of Cold feet, Did anyone else notice the Naim system in the flat Adam is renting? As I'm not in control of the remote I couldn't pause and take a look, but I'm sure I saw something.

One can only hope so. Recent events have highlighted just how fragmented and unappealing the party and some of its members really are, and to cap it all, we have Nigel Farage's support and canvassing for Donald Trump in the US election build up. I find it hard to believe that even Farage could put a positive, or at least supportive spin on the appalling recent, but not surprising revelations about Donald Trump. I guess Nigel Farage's true colours are now on display, and surely many of those...

As i said in various threads iMac has been a bit iffy, well that's changed it's sort of dead. It shuts down part way through boot up, fails even quicker on safe boot. Not really sure what to do, I guess a new machine may well be the answer. Can data on Time capsule be accessed by another machine? ie new machine. I'll sleep on it, you never know it all might be better in the morning. There might be world peace and a cure for cancer too, but I'm not holding my breath!

Opportunities presented by Brexit Ok, so I voted to remain. However………………. ………a small majority voted to leave and the Government is heading in that direction. So, what are the opportunities that Brexit offers and, just as importantly, how would we set about securing those opportunities ? Jacob Rees Mogg was clearly impressed on “Question Time” (Thursday 22 nd Sept 2016 BBC 1) by the well-expressed enthusiasm of a young man who considered that it offered opportunities to engage with the rest...

You may remember that I posted about using an iPad to read my guitar sheet music when away from home? Well, I tried the various options, even buying a wifi external hard drive. That worked, but, the screen was still too small for serious use. I should also add that I was not at all impressed with either of the two supposedly ipad/iphone compatible USB sticks I tried. One would only let me access files in its root directory, and then failed completely within a week. The other would only...

I know the use of light dimmers is a no-no for sound quality , but does this also apply to leds. Im looking at some downlights with 2 stages of brightness and wondered if they work in the same way as a dimmer. Michael.
