Padded Cell
Hi everyone, off to a Mossie paradise soon and while they usually leave me alone, my wife is a bug magnet and my daughter seems to be just as attractive. Anyone tried any kind of anti mossie bracelet things? Any recs? Ta
I have read one review website they are offering me to buy an espresso machine with 30% discounted rate as compared to the market? Should i go for them or not? Is there any chance of scam?
Just spent a frustrating hour trying to pay off a large chunk of my Barclaycard bill early. I do most of my banking on-line, and mainly for historical reasons, our main Credit Card is a Barclaycard (used to be Goldfish), and our actual bank account, and hence Debit Card is with NatWest. I'm old-fashioned, brought up not to owe money, so all our bills are paid promptly and in full, usually by Direct Debit. We do have another credit card (MBNA), and SWMBO and I never both carry the same one -...
Seriously, I've always wanted the bans to be lifted - to see what humans can truly achieve. All professional body builders use steroids and growth hormones, with diuretics flushing them out before testing. Mike Tyson apparently used a fake penis to pass his test - as those of you who watched that programme will recall. So why not permit any supplement? We all know to compete at the top level, people try. Lets get the 100m under 8 seconds I say!
Recently spotted in the Tewkesbury area of Gloucestershire - Mercedes (I think) car bearing reg plate LP12 ARO . It did, I must say, sound well-tuned.
Four people killed in an eight vehicle crash on the A34, northbound between Chieveley Interchange and East Ilsley. One person arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. This is a notorious section of road, both northbound and southbound. I don't use this section every day but I use it frequently enough to witness dangerous driving and the road is IMHO, badly designed. There have been bad accidents on this stretch over the past three days. If the person under arrest is found...
First of all, I'm a BBC fan but what on earth possessed them here? What on earth?
Sky bill for (TV/phone/internet 2mb) is like a small mortgage. I would like to change to another ISP, for steaming Tidal, etc, but have read that Sky is the only truly unlimited broadband. I very am happy with the Sky 2mb service. Tidal will play perfectly even whilst surfing the web, but the overall package is just too expensive. I would be most grateful to hear peoples experiences/suggestions, re this problem. I'd like to spend any saving, on CD/LP. I'm thinking mainly ECM CD's. Would I be...
4 years ago we got London Fever here in the UK and by the end of the event there was a big feelgood kick for many. Struggling a bit to get excited about Rio, possibly because the time zone issue is going to make seeing any live action challenging but there are a few events that I do really want to catch if I can and I'm sure it will throw up some great stories and moments. There will also be controversies no doubt (very intelligent and balanced article in Guardian this Saturday about Caster...
When a waiter ever lets you sample his wine, have you ever rejected? If so, what happened? Who pays for the opened bottle?
Just come back from holiday having enjoyed playing Carrom. The board was of the usual dimensions but unusually was on its own legs. Try as I might I can't find one anywhere with legs. Does anyone know where I can source a Carrom board on legs for the UK, before I try and build my own? and, no, a Fraim would not be suitable!
I like to take some sheet music for guitar practice with me on holiday, and rather than cart around heavy paperback books, I have decided to scan the pieces I want into PDF format (strictly for my own personal use) and use my iPad Air2 to read them. I want to keep the music on a USB stick rather than clutter up the iPad memory, and so have bought a 64GB uDrive USB/Thunderbolt flash drive. The iPad reads the files easily and displays them nicely. However, I have concerns that doing it this...
Just bought this new Heuer Monaco watch. I now have two automatic watches, so will probably need a watch winder. I have Googled this subject, but it seems a bit of a minefield on first look. Does anyone have experience on this subject? Do the winders have timers on them, so they're not always moving? Is it best to get one that has different movements, so it's not winding the watch in the same direction all the time?
I don't know about you, but whenever someone tells me a story I decrease the 'values' in my head. For example... "I was up all night preparing for the interview"; "The journey took 6 hours"... I overheard people on the train and have a theory why everyone does it. Because the 'listener' wasn't there, the narrator feels they need to compensate. (A very frustrating phenomenon in human nature.) What do you reckon to my theory?
We're looking at ditching our Virgin package (Phone, TiVo, Broadband) to go for Virgin Broadband only and go back to Freeview. Any recommendations on Freeview boxes. Main requirements are - Quiet (it's in the lounge), Catchup functionality (if possible) and the ability to record on two (or more) tuners at once. Any thoughts appreciated. James
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36979491 Re-making some lost episodes of popular TV series. I suspect will be hit and miss but interesting idea all the same IMO
Sitting enjoying listening..., then pfffft., my left ear goes probably 10 db down and stereo image goes kiss good bye. Not listening loud , had healthy breakfast - so only presume some allergy setting off something. Is there a proper power supply I can plug into my head ?
This is alarming to me as I just noticed it. I have so much new work to prepare for my new job and that means many hours in front of the PC. It isn't loud, but it's the same pitch as tinnitus (or vice versa). Has anyone else had this?
As the question asks! Curious, eh?
We have been contemplating turning off FM steam radio, but looking at the UK national grid power demand data today around midday it makes me wonder if they are also turning off wind power as we are producing next to nothing today. The principle sources of power generation in UK are CCGT, Nuclear, Coal & Wind (not including solar, hydro, bio & the various ICT interconnectors to & from other countries) At around 13:30 today CCGT is producing 13.6GW, Nuclear 7.9GW & Coal 0.86GW...
I've just received my "invite" for installing Smart Meters. So its decision time, yes I know they are not compulsory but the inevitable outcome at some point in the future will be some kind of penalty for not having them or they will be compulsory. Also the surrounding neighbourhood will have them installed & the time will come when I am surrounded by smart meters & whatever bad things they might bring whether I want them or not. I read all the advertising blurb & it smells like...
Love the new forums, but one thing annoys the piss out of me: When I reply to a topic I immediately set to follow that topic by force. This is not bad for threads that don't move fast, but since I live in the US...if I post a reply to a mega-thread before I go to bed...I could wake up with a mailbox with 50 messages in it from all the over night posting. So now if I post to the "What are you listening to?" thread...I have to remember to unfollow it. Not that I don't like the thread, but I...
My dates are now showing in US format. Don't know exactly when this started but I noticed it for the first time tonight. I've checked all the likely places but can't find how to reset it to UK. I know I've done it before but it was a while ago and a few forum upgrades have been since done since then. Has anybody else experienced this and can anybody help?
Anyone have any thoughts or experience with these? There's only a weak signal in our local area and none indoors. My wide and I are both on O2 through work contracts so TU GO isn't an option. Looking at several GSM boosters that are available online and would be interested to hear if they live up to their claims. thx
