Padded Cell
I've just moved EVERYTHING out to my house near Palm Springs and have loads of boxes, most my LPs and equipment. I want a new storage solution. The wide bookshelves were problematic in that if there were not enough LPs they would slump one way or another even tho I had metal bookends, I kept them in clusters of Male Rock (largest), Dylan &The Band, Female singers, Female Jazz singers, Male Jazz(2nd largest and growing), and Classical. Main concern is easy access readability, and second,...
Hi, Anyone got one? More specifically, any one got one and who also has experience of the MkII? I'd be using the 1.4x with my 300 f2.8 L mainly for football, on an EOS 1D MkIV. The 300 is about 20 years old and is used wide open. I've looked online, now I thought I'd ask you guys. Basically is the price of a new mkIII worth the premium over a used mkII extender? Thanks. Chris
My newly installed internet protection has flagged up that log-in data isn't encrypted when submitted. I'm not sure if this is usual - but did make me stop and think - food for thought. I'm aware there is no encryption certification evident on the site.
This article is quite interesting. I cannot help but thinking that the equipment doesn't manage to sound as good(?) as it looks, having read his reasoning. And I dread to think what it costs, but a cast iron turntable that can also cut discs is probably not something Naim's R&D department are currently working on... http://www.thevinylfactory.com/vinyl-factory-releases/oswalds-mill-audio-interview/
Henry McCarty, known in Wild West lore as Billy the Kid. In a surprising historical twist, the second photo of McCarty ever to be authenticated shows him and his posse, the Regulators, playing the sport in New Mexico in 1878. The faded image was among a pile of photos inside a cardboard box at a junk shop in Fresno, California, unearthed by a collector in 2010. Randy Guijarro paid $2 (£1.30) for the image, which is now estimated to be worth millions of dollars. The only other confirmed photo...
DJ and collector Coleen "Cosmo" Murphy is hosting a two-part history of the turntable on BBC Radio 4 next week (8th March). Details here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b072jfcr Ep 1 covers "the turntable's early history from its invention by Emil Berliner to its acceptance in Edwardian society. Coleen talks i to John Liffen of the Science Museum and Christopher Proudfoot of the British Phonograph and Gramophone Society as well as to Antiques Roadshow expert Paul Atterbury." Part two...
Here is an interesting one about Super Sports and relative sound systems http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/458-italia-488/514872-owner-review-speciale-vs-mclaren.html Regards Roberto
I remember 'going out' and 'dating' my girlfriends, saying that we were 'together' or 'seeing each other' but never using the phrase 'I'm in a relationship'. The latter seems so soulless, distant, impersonal and passive, as if it is something that happens to one, rather than being an active and positive statement of commitment between two, people. Digital asceticism?
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-35747869 This is incredibly sad. The airline and authorities should be forthright. They should truthfully explain to them that the plane will never be found, and that no more information regarding the crash exists.
What a beautiful, brilliantly filmed programme this is. A credit to ITV and a timely reminder of what a wonderful, fascinating world we life in.

Just a sentence or two ........ from yourself or quoted from elsewhere, could be favorite saying, philosophical ditty, song lyric, political or sports comment, anything short: from John Roderick (social/political commentator, musician, and songwriter with The Long Winters): "When Trump says, "No problems there" he's really saying, "I've personally researched the national average of 5.5 inches and am very close".
To the man who has rescued British tennis and his lovely wife I say all the best. A beautiful baby daughter is the best thing ever to happen to you Andy.
Not good news, but then Kaiser Wilhelm II to is more closely related. The internet is a mixed blessing. Ref Genidotcom ...

Has anyone here had someone they have known or were close to commit suicide? Obviously it may not me a topic anyone wants to share, but if you feel you are able I would like to know what the impact was. This is not meant in any sort of frivolous way at all.
Just got new illumination installed in the kitchen: Bye bye 300W indirect halogen lighting, hello 9W energy saving LED pendant lamp. This new lighting atmosphere makes me think of the old LP-vs-CD-debate: right-wrong-different-getting used to it etc. And further: is a good stereo comparable to a good lighting atmosphere? On both one can spend considerable budget for "just" feeling more comfortable and the aim to re-create the old atmosphere using the latest technology. I write this enjoying...

http://artuk.org/ Now that's a worthy use of the internet. Could have used larger images (though one can right click then view/save etc. which is a good thing) but marvelous idea and very well executed. Excellent use of links and I guess in time more info on various pieces will accumulate
So Apple is refusing to develop software to allow the US authorities to hack in to a dead terrorist's iphone. This probably hampers the fight against terrorism and is potentially a risk to security. Is Apple right to take this position? Apple prides itself on its stance for the rights of the individual, but itself doubtless gets much information from Apple users' activities.
This must have been asked before, but is it possible to un-Americanise the displayed date format hereabouts? Ta. John.
.... is going on with the look of the forum? I hope this is a temporary glitch. A momentary lapse of reason.
What happened to my n-Brackets thread? It was here an hour ago, now gone!
The big energy companies continue to roll out the new-tech devices and I recently received communication from my supplier E.ON stating that they will soon be changing my meter to a Smart Meter. I replied, stating that I don't want one, and to my surprise they acquiesced with no problem. I quote:- "Thanks for getting in touch to let us know you don’t want to have a smart meter fitted in your home. If you’re happy to carry on with the meter you already have then please continue to give us your...
Wine ratings.... 0/10... Undrinkable poison (or corked) …a non-starter. 1/10... Horrible nasty tasting plonk. Best used for a sink waste cleaner. 2/10... Very poor effort, not enjoyable to drink but maybe used for cooking. 3/10... Grimace wine ...with too many concessions that leaves one wanting. 4/10... An okay wine with some virtues but far from good quality. 5/10... Good drinkable fair to middling wine but far from flawless. 6/10... Very good wine, drinkable. Would buy again at the right...
