A motorist who deliberately crashed his car into a cyclist has pleaded guilty to murder. Sam Spaven drove his Audi into 44-year-old Richard Pencott as he was riding along Blyth Road in Harworth, Nottinghamshire, on 24 June. The 26-year-old, of Norfolk Road, Bircotes, admitted murder at Nottingham Crown Court earlier. Spaven will be sentenced on Tuesday morning, when more details of the case will be heard. Mr Pencott, who died at the scene of the crash, also lived in Bi rcotes. I anticipate...
Harald Fairfair is my thirty-first great grandfather in a direct line! Amazing rubbish you can find out on the internet! And more recently, the Queen of Norway is my seventh cousin! Should look good if I ever emigrate there! Anyone else have know Royal Viking blood? ATB from George https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_Fairhair
Having just picked up a carton of salt from the supermarket I noticed it had a sell by date of August 2018. Considering this salt has been buried in the ground for how many million years before the supplier excavated it? Now it's been transferred into a cardboard container it's seems it's only safe for consumption for another couple of years. How strange! It made me smile just thinking about it
Just been going through my emails and there was one from the BBC Press office. Series 2 of "Detectorists" starts on BBC4 on 29th October. It's again set in Essex, and is written and directed by Mr Crook. He stars, along with Toby Jones, Rachael...
As per Richards request, new topic for the forum layout. I put it in Hifi corner as that's where I reside mostly. I've spent a bit of time on the topic list and today very quickly tried to optimise the topic layout too. The topic layout still needs a bit of love to be optimal; I'll get to when I find the time. Later I will post some screenshots; can't do that from work and the forum does not allow me to upload photo's... @Richard, could you move the topic...
Has anyone been amused by this news lately ? It has generated rather lots of discussion on the British legal system from this side of the world! Can't help but to think of how can this be possible!
Happy Juul to you all this day of solstice. From Loki and the J ólfaÐr .
When I turned on my PC this evening it started by installing an automatic Windows update. Then when I finally got into it properly, I clicked on the start icon and received this message: "Critical Error – Your Start menu isn’t working. We’ll try to fix it the next time you sign in." The only option then was to sign out. Having done a search on line, it appears this is a known problem for which Microsoft doesn't have a solution. One Microsoft engineer suggested starting in safe mode then...
Just saw an enigmatic Naim facebook post re International CES on 6th of January and the unveiling of their next step to supply music in every room of the house. Is there a new product due does anyone know?
Lord Janner passed away today. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-35142675 Given the Press's 'outrage' at the CPS's decision a few months back that he wasn't fit to stand trial due to his dementia, I wonder if there will now be some acknowledgement that the CPS was right and Press wrong?
BBC2 Thursdays Not bad this. Having read the books it's somewhat disconcerting how much back story has been left out but that's the nature of condensing novels into TV series I guess. Well made and enjoying it though.
how do you do a search on current forum? I feel stupid but don't see search button to click on. david
Can anyone explain to me how the question of a third runway at Heathrow and commitment to reduce Carbon-dioxide emissions, is not a complete logical disconnect? Surely we should be looking at closing regional airports and shutting down one of the two runways at Heathrow as prelude to banning air travel altogether ... ? There are times when i have to ask a radical question ... ATB from George
Statement remote control, as in the image below. Anyone want to take a guess on how much a replacement one costs...?
If the 'murkans elect that dodo, we're building a wall. Yours sincerely, Canada
OK chaps and chapesses. It's that time of year again when we have to write that letter to dear Father Christmas in the hope we receive some lovely presents on the 25th, assuming we have been good boys and girls. So what's on your wish list? Mine is a 4-5 pin SL IC, so it doesn't look like I'll be getting anything this year. I guess I'll have to make do with some shaving cream from Taylor's of Jermyn St.
I just had an idea about replay. “I’d rather be stirred than shaken by my replay!" Sorry for that awful hashing of a famous quote! ATB from George
Q. Has anyone at hoopla got even the most basic grasp of the fundamentals of human computer interface design? A. Would appear not. Willy.
A few high profile defections lately. For some their posts seem to have all been deleted. Is this at the ex- member's request or is it a moderated response? Or is there a button - I want to leave, that automatically does this, whereas if you just say goodbye all your posts are left? Apart from if I was leaving in a fit of pique I can see no reason to have all posts deleted. It makes some threads very strange (the chain challenge). I suspect Richard will moderate me if...
Based on his performance at the Parliament in favor of Syria air strikes, he is better placed to be the next PM than anybody else. Thoughts?
We recently decided to ditch our trusty Skoda Octavia diesel and replace it with a Golf SV. So off I go to the local dealer to try to negotiate a deal. After over an hour of the old rigmarole of going to see the sales manager etc etc I was offered a...
We had to put down our German Shepherd Husky cross a couple of months back. He suddenly stopped eating and was diagnosed with cancer. In thinking of a new pup, we came across some gorgeous White Shepherds, but these dogs are real working...
I've been investigating how to improve my backup security to defeat 'ransom-ware' viruses; and I have an answer that works... It relies on using a volume in a NAS that deliberately isn't accessible from any computer on the network (either not visible, or because of security settings). It is however accessible to the NAS OS itself. Arrange a backup from the required computers to write to a normal volume on the NAS. Then use the NAS's own backup routine to backup the computer...
Anyone else see this delightful film/documentary in the 'Imagine' arts strand on the Beeb? He's a fascinating, well-read and erudite man our Mr John Wilkinson. The film is visually beautiful too. It's available on iPlayer. John.
The French electricity company EDF is about to start replacing all traditional electricity meters with smart meters using PLC technology (called "Linky"). They claim that none of the equipment in the home will be affected, but some specialists have...
