We work as a partnership.   It looks as if we will have to make a payout to a former member of staff re an employment issue. Since that employee left the partnership itself has changed; two people retired, two replacements in.  ...

I'm currently trying to get my head round Jazz Guitar (my Guitar teacher thinks it will be good for me!)   Currently I'm learning 'Bluesette' from Jazz Guitar Standards II, and came across a couple of chord names which didn't make much sense to...

BBC Radio 4 – so it MUST be true – at17:00 today. 4.5 million workers and pensioners are part of Local Government Pension Schemes. The aggregated value of these pension funds is c.£180bn and their liabilities are c.£230bn ie they have a deficit of c.£50bn. 98% of all the schemes are in deficit. The schemes are funded jointly by employees (past, present, future) and the LAs. Employees make fixed (%) contributions as do the LAs as part of the employment contract. The deficit is made up by the...

Can people please stop using the "We demand... We want...." etc. Most if not all users are really just wanting these things them selves. It is used to give a false  sense of importance to the statement that follows. An old trick used many times,...

One or two internet news papers have reported Putin AWOL. Not seen for the past 10 days and has cancelled several meetings. We know that Putin is a Naim user.   Sharik hasn't posted on the Forum since 4th March, ie 10 days.   Is there a...

This is why I did not post this on Hifi Corner. Due to some in house movement, speaker swap and furniture re-arrangement as well as some other reasons only to be known by yours truly I’d like to keep CD5si, XS2 and HCDR powered without connected to speakers for some time. Besides, I really do not want to power them down as XS2 and HCDR have recently come on song. Of course, I not mad enough to unplug/plug spkr cables whilst the amp is on. Googling and forum search did not yield any...

We are having a short Caribbean cruise (Belize & Cozumel) and US tour next month. Any recommendations for any "not to miss" or just interesting places in the 3 locations? We have visited all locations previously but only briefly, we have a car for 4 days in S Florida, and "on foot" for 4 days each in DC and NYC. Drive to Key West is on the cards, we have only flown out of Miami so not seen any treats that it may offer. We have had a short stop in DC before but...

I'm finding it useful as a pedometer and for the information of you folks who are using this app, iOS 8.2 has added the ability to select 'miles' as opposed to the default 'kilometre' setting.   How weird was that on a US designed product?  ...

We have the benefit(?) of a recently refurbished shiny new hi-tech Post Office in the Castle Mall in Norwich. Less staff - more machines. So I brave 'The Robots' to post a small jiffy-bagged parcel. Does your package contain any of the following materials? Body parts of IS members - alive or dead. Noxious liquids (such as Blue Nun wine). Offensive literature or music (example - Val Doonican CD's) Pornographic photography. Some clothing must be visible but crotchless panties on either gender...

Great performance by the UK team this weekend and great atmosphere provided by the audience in Glasgow. Well done to everyone involved.   And how on earth did Murray manage to win the first set, when he got a fair pummelling?

Digital Camera magazine are giving away a free copy of DxO optics pro 8 software. It’s not the most up to date version, (version 10 has just been released) but it produces some pretty amazing results. The program identifies the lens/body combination and using data obtained by testing that combination modifies the image to remove chromatic aberration. It’s also very good at bringing out detail in under exposed parts of a photo. Not the best/most powerful processing software available, but it...

I'm getting annoyed by the apparent incompetence of various TV channels when it comes to Series Recording using a PVR.   Channel 5 seems to be the worst offender, BTW.   It's amazing how often they b*gger up the info they provide for PVR...

My Carlton Kermesse is now thirty years old. In fact it is older, because it was a nice window display for twelve months before my friend [who gave me the bike just over seven years ago as derelict] bought it for time trials.   Anyway the latest evolution is the fitting of a Thorn handle-bar. Just now the wheels are odd, as I fitted the alternate front wheel with the road tyre on rather than the Marathon still fitted on the back. I have to get a new freewheel and chain as my chain has...

They are 79. Mum has pretty bad rheumatoid arthritis and finds walking difficult and has to have automatic. The last three cars they have had have been four door BMWs which they have bought used from main dealers at roughly two years old. They've loved the experience of owning BMs and have found that they like heated leather seats, for comfort, and because they don't stick to Mum's clothes as she slides in and out, which would cause her pain. They like normal size wheels and tyres for a...

Weird one this, I've just noticed that my ranking has gone up rather than down in the last month. Do I need to write more? ('No! please the gods, no!' I hear you cry.)
