There are two phone 'entry' points in my house - one in the kitchen and one in the lounge.  The previous owner had his router in the kitchen, and I have mine in the lounge.  Is there any kit that will allow me to use both to provide a better...

Spilt milk on the lounge carpet (glass full) on Friday night, cleaned it up as best we could. Today all we can smell is the awful stench of sour milk in the lounge!! We have deep cleaned the carpet again this morning, 1001 carpet cleaner and scrubbing...

Here is a link to a beautiful webpage on my great great grandfather Carl Oscar Rasmussen at his mountain retreat by Skudalsvatn [near Geilo, somewhere halfway between Oslo and Bergen on the railway, and right on the edge of the famous Handanger Plateau].   Many photos including of my great grandfather Ivar Fiske and his wife Sygny Fiske, and also as far a my grandmother Sygny Mai [later Siss] Fiske ...   I shall be in a cottage about 400 metres from the Gamelhyter that Carl Osker...

(I hope PaulS and Dougy will allow this to stay here, given its the most popular forum hereabouts) I was contacted early this morning by Peter Swain of Cymbiosis with tragic news. He asked me to post here. " Jon, I felt I needed to let you know that Jane took her own life on Sunday. She had been suffering with a little depression for the last year and was taking mild medication. She had never shown any signs of self harming and she was surrounded by a close and loving family. We are...

SWMBO insisted that she needed a mobile phone (God knows why, as she usually leaves it at home when she goes out!). So, 3 months ago I went out with her, and she ignored my recommendation that I give her my iPhone 3GS and get myself a new one, and finished up buying a Sony Smartphone from PC World for about £100 I told her that she would have to learn how to use it herself, but today, she said that she had been sent text messages from our youngest daughter, but couldn't find them. I, of...

Last week I downloaded a couple of Terry Pratchett unabridged Audiobooks from iTunes (they were 2/3 of the price shown on Amazon!).  They originate from Audiobooks.com AFAICS, and each book its divided into only 2 files, each of several hours...

My wife's cousin visited recently, and over dinner the conversation moved to her (the cousin's) daughter, who is (or rather, was) a cordon blue pastry chef. But not any more - she is now a dominatrix, with a dungeon in Orpington, of all places. The...

While we were at work on Tuesday, someone with, hopefully, a limited life expectancy smashed one of the patio doors and helped themselves to my MacBook, two cameras and attached lenses, iPad, Longines watch and my wife's cheapish charm bracelet. The...

I'm so happy how it's all turned out and so proud of how my home city looks on TV. It has run like clockwork and the organisation has been wonderful. Shame it'll be years before it happens again.   And all funded by local taxes unlike Manchester...

Picked up some new glasses a few days ago & for the first time, as long vis is now getting a touch fuzzy, I opted for varifocals. Long vis is 100% OK, very pleased Walking around & driving can be a bit strange with lower frame distortion effects caused by head movements, but I fully accept this is just something I'll get used to. Reading distance is OK, but the narrow sweet spot is not great & I feel my previous reading only glasses are so much...

Persian Perambulations Well, our Persian adventure has come to an end and I feel rather sad. It was a holiday in which: I almost lost a a daughter and gained a son; I realised what a young country we are here in the UK; and I was touched many times by the warmth and care of a diverse community. On our arrival we were stopped at Iranian passport control. The official disappeared into a back office before re-appearing with a box of sweets which was offered to each one of us as we entered the...

............. Memorial Tree that is ..... A pine tree was planted near Griffith Observatory in memory of George Harrison with a plaque reading: “In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener.” This was one of many trees in Griffith Park that have been killed by a bark beetle infestation. T he George Harrison has been removed but along with all the other damaged trees, it will be replaced with another in the fall.

I've posted several times that I enjoy hunting for old vinyl treasures, and so I enjoyed seeing this ad on TV last night.     The advertiser is a US-based stock trading firm, and I have no association with them.   ATB.   Hook
