Its really good to know that safety is top of the agenda................... ...........As part of Government plans to release a proportion of public sector spectrum by 2020 for commercial use, such as for mobile broadband, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has been tasked with assessing the possibility of safely reducing the aviation industry’s reliance on the bandwidth reserved for air traffic control radar. A major research programme will look at the feasibility of releasing 100MHz of...
This has really grown on us. We watch it with my teenage son and it's humour (surprisingly these days) crosses the generation gap. Ron Swanson is sheer class. G
After looking at the raid not a back up and allied threads over the months, I thought it time to do some extra backups. Apple help is less than helpful saying you should back up and after a certain OSX Time machine is your friend, but more is...
A group of Women’s Rights campaigners threatened to take a well respeced University to court over its admissions policy which they claimed was heavily biased in favour of men. Their key evidence was based on the overall figure for admissions to the six most prestigious colleges which showed that of 2,590 male applications, 1192 (46%) were successful, whilst of 1,835 female applications only 595 (32%) were successful. At the pre-trial hearing, the University’s senior admissions tutor accepted...
This morning the main bridge over the Severn was closed due to fears for its structural stability. Such was the dam of debris on the up stream side that there were serious concerns that the whole thing might be swept away. Needless to...

Hi all, I have recently "dropped' Windows in favour of a Mac. Two things in life I hate, sat in traffic and waiting for a Windows PC to do something. Time I will never get back! I know the internet is a great source of information. I also...

Has anyone used one of these "We'll give you much less than a private sale" car buying firms? They seem like the payday loan part of the auto trade and a last resort. Besides, you miss the stand-offs and mind games of selling privately which is a shame.
Dictators favourite and people alike, this one is in need of a bit of TLC. More here: ...
The cowboy lay sprawled across three entire seats in the posh Amarillo theatre. When the usher came by and noticed this he whispered to the cowboy, "Sorry, sir, but youre only allowed one seat." The cowboy groaned but didnt budge. The usher became...

The above is just (another) example for use as an illustration. Have you noticed how many promo pics and album covers feature the artist(s) standing on a railway line? Why? Is it a staggering lack of imagination or some deep...
Seeing as the original has been hijacked, taken down and given a good beating it seems... Let's start again for the season shall we? Anyone fancy Man Utd to defend the title?
A great actor of our times and complicated personality like each of us.. I bumped into him when I was strolling around Irving PL in possibly 2007 or 2008 if I am not mistaken. Had a small talk. Rest in peace.
Malcolm was a member here, posting under his real name and as Simply Grim. I know that several members here knew him. We met here first (virtually, in the Padded Cell). We were discussing beer, when he asked if I had been at my local pub...

I am someone with a weakness for nostalgia. A fond remembering of good times, not sullied by sadness of human weakness. Just after Christmas I visited my first home, and often make a detour to look at places I have lived since. It always...
So, is anyone watching it? And what do you think? Just watched the first two eps, after missing it on Saturday. I have to say it is utterly magnificent. The first two episodes were faultless. First of all, there are the two leads, Saga and Martin, from opposite sides of the Øresund Bridge, and opposite sides of the emotional spectrum. But their relationship is deeply touching, and very real. Kim Bodnia and Sofia Helin are just brilliant. And Saga's constant looks of puzzlement are wonderful.

We are just at the very early stages of wondering what we can do to avoid all the usual (I'll be polite) seasonal kerfuffle. Have any forumites had a successful break of, say, three nights? City or country, but must be up there with the...
