Football Season 2017/18

As requested by Steve (Paper Plane) on the 16/17 thread, here's a new one for 2017/18. All leagues/divisions welcome.
Come on you Irons!

He was very good for Saints but I'm not sure many Saints fans will ever hold much affection for him after he as good as made it clear that the club wasn't big enough for him. And it's proved his undoing, since, according to Henry Winter in today's times, his Barca fixation was his undoing at Goodison.
That shows some arrogance on Koeman's part. Everton have fuller trophy cabinet than the Saints but that's some years ago. If the two clubs are compared over the past ten years I think things look much more even. For example, I've always felt that your lot and Everton have had excellent scouting and youth development set-ups, both bringing talent through to the first-team. Interestingly, Koeman's arrival has seen Everton start splashing the cash on 'name' players, which is not the Everton way. On football style I think there's a difference. Saints with a more technical and a passing game (ok, I know creativity has been a problem) whereas I've always felt Everton's style is in Stoke/WBA mould i.e. a pressing/physical game and clever at set-pieces. Looking at the dismal defeat at home to the Gunners, Koeman seems to have moved away from that and the Everton players looked very ill-at-ease.
There was a story “doin’ the rounds” that RK fell out with the SFC board because he was not interested in the Academy. The board’s view was that we could “do the job” (aka challenge for the top, Champion’s League, yada yada yada) with youngsters from the Academy conveyer belt, whereas RK took the view that you need to “splash the cash” if you are serious about succeeding in the Prem.
Sounds plausible.

RK splashed the cash in the summer at EFC (my team), without conspicuous success. I've seen some rubbish over the years, but this is a new low for EFC - clueless and spineless. What makes it worse is that the hope we had at the start of the season has been so thoroughly extinguished.
Who would want to take over as manager now?
Suzy Wong posted:mpw posted:ohhh absolutely !!
Playing in front of a 66,684 sell out crowd in Kolkata would have added to their overall experience.
I thought the tireless Hudson Odoi was a standout apart from Brewster and Foden.
The Brit Grit came to the fore and took the party away from the Spanish armada.
Well done U17 England !
Very well done India - for hosting the largest ever U17 WC in history !
( The number of football patrons attending the WC matches has broken all previous records held anywhere. )
#proud
Hey mpw,
I haven’t come across your team before. As this is a “footy thread ” would you care to tell us a bit about them?
Suzy Wong
U want to make a movie on this ??
Aizawl is the captial of Mizoram state in the North East of India. The lovely folks from our North East are football crazy and and they are blessed with very good football skills.
AFC ( Aizawl Football Club ) is the first club from our NE to with the Hero I- Cup - the top trophy in Indian football. They did this despite
a. Very less money & Zero expectations
b. Had a coach ( who is very good actually ) but did not deliver the results with Mumbai FC and started coaching Aizawl FC
Please do visit aizawlfc.com
In the recently concluded U17 world cup - many of Indian football players are from the North East. They are skilful and fit and trying to make a place for themselves in the football world.
Goa and Kerala, Bengal and Punjab are other areas where football has strong roots and a strong fan base.
Since the last 3 years - ISL - The Indian Super League - has been unearthing talent in India and mixing them with former international ( recently retired ) players so Indian football has a league that has a mix of youth, strong competitive teams and international experience in the changing room and field.
Reliance Industries - is pumping a lot of money into football and the chairperson Mrs Neeta Ambani is quite passionate about this project of hers.
God bless her endeavour !
People are waking up to good football and India will be a good market in the years to come.
Hopefully we will produce talent who will win us some silverware , atleast in Asia to start with.
did not mean to derail this thread and apologies to anyone who feel so.

Accordingly to my newspaper, Palace still have a £2m buy-out clause n Big Sam. He has a good track-record at achieving Premier League status though.
Coleman?

Fantastic result for Spurs.....!
Loving the results this weekend and City going 8 points above United.Well pleased they lost at Chelski ha ha ! Great goal from KDB against Arsenal.Sane I really like he always seems to be giving it everything. We seem to have a lot younger squad then last season where there where alot of players in there early thirties. Now it's more 20 -27.
Good to see Burnley and Brighton and Huddersfield all doing well in the leauge.
West Ham have got to sort out the mess there in ASAP.
Your views Kev ?
Tough game for Spurs, but 3pts very welcoming cushion. Man Utd lost and we are level yet again with them!
Chelsea v Man U was a good game to watch for the neutral and I think Chelsea deserved their win but I was surprised at Mourinho's tactics. I was expected him to make it very, very hard for Chelsea to play.

Still missing in action after his win over Spurs.

You know how to hurt a bloke, Ian ;-)
Sorry Chris was'nt trying to rub it in with Burnley.
It's all who will take over at West Ham on Talk Sport this morning.Moyes as an interim manager also Benitez leaving Newcastle even Harry Rednapp in the mix !
'Arry!! His Sandra won't like it.
Re: Burnley, the neutral in me is pleased to see them more than consolidating.
As for Saints, we're good at going sideways but can't score. I'm also fascinated to see how Puel gets on at Leicester, same manager different players scenario.
As widely predicted, Bilic has just been fired. Another case of trigger-happy club owners. A wild-card thought I know, but I wonder if Everton might consider snapping up Bilic? Despite disappointing recent results at WHU, I rate him as a manager.

My hope is that Kev has got in touch with his family and told them he is ok.
Was in Cyprus, watching it in a bar with a load of Spuds! Brilliant night!

Slav was a classy bloke, and gave us the best season we've had in decades, but but he'd lost the plot, so I think he had to go. Trouble is, our penny-pinching cheapskate unimaginative owners are most likely to appoint Moyes. I think most WHU fans would rather have stuck with Bilic.
Just to save time later... Moyes out!
