On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour ‘74, 2012 Music on Vinyl reissue
Stunning blues-rock, massive energy in these live recordings from the band and the crowds, fantastic songs, tight band, and Rory playing his battered Strat like few others could. Dave, you're In for a treat tomorrow.
A discussion on the Vinyl Re-issues thread regarding Electric Light Orchestra albums on vinyl encouraged me to dig out this gem. This is one of the first records I ever bought. Classic pop music.
Joining in with the Rory admiration society and Live in Europe.Always enjoyed his music since acquiring "Bullfrog Blues" from this album on a flexi- disc free with Sounds music weekly back in '72/'73.
Iron Maiden - The Number of The Beast
I have just noticed that my community rank is 666.
Now Playing.........
Amy Wadge - Keeping Faith
Streaming on TIDAL........ a six track release from Amy and taking her out for an early evening spin, sounding mighty fine!
Now Playing.........
Amy Wadge - Walking Disaster
Streaming on TIDAL.............. another six track release from earlier this year, continuing on with the fine voice of Amy!
Composer, guitarist, and pianist Egberto Gismonti is one of the less celebrated but most interesting products of Brazil's progressive scene in the late '60s and early '70s. His music has been classified as rock, pop, jazz, and classical music, sometimes for the same album in different releases. The orchestral work on the first disc of this two-disc set tends toward the classical side, and it displays Gismonti's skills as an orchestrator. Those skills came down from Ravel through a French tradition represented by, among others, Nadia Boulanger, who had Gismonti as one of her later students. (AllMusic)
Green Day. Kerplunk! Original CD from 1992. The band's second album with uncharacteristically high dynamic range. I'm listening to a Green Day CD with an average DR of 11 - WTF? Sounds amazing. This was unfortunately corrected on the 2007 CD re-issue which boasted a well-bricked average DR of 7.
Now Playing.........
Pat Metheny - Travels
Pat Metheny (guitar, guitar synthesizer), Lyle Mays (piano, synthesizer, organ, autoharp, synclavier), Steve Rodby (acoustic bass, electric bass, bass synthesizer), Dan Gottlieb (drums) and Nana Vasconcelos (percussion, voice, berimbau).
Streaming on NAS........... a mention from EOINK and CLIVE B from earlier today had put the thought in my head to spin this up as today's nightcap! .....and sounding mighty sweet.......
nigelb posted:John Smith - Headlong
His rather wonderful voice reminds me of a laid back Ray LaMontagne.
Nigel I posted a link awhile ago to a video for Living in Disgrace off this album performed in a bakers shop in Frome. Look it up it is worth it.
It is on youtube.
Emil Gilels - Beethoven
A very good quality boot recorded at Tokyo Sunplaza on 9th july 1981. This was the GREAT Kraftwerk tour - still playing analogue synths, making mistakes, still varying the setlist, still improvising on tunes like "Autobah" and "It's More Fun To Compute". While technologically impressive still, KW haven't been as good since the '81 tour.
Playing on Compact Disc - A timeless Stephen Stills solo debut album - Go Back Home with the Eric Clapton guitar break is fabulous
George Cables - Beyond forever
- George Cables - Piano
- Joe Locke - Vibes
- Santi Debriano - Bass
- Victor Lewis - Drums
Alan Hull - Pipedream, the first solo album from the late ex- Lindisfarne man.Perhaps now a largely underated and forgotten artist.
I think it was [@mention:1566878603926433] who posted this the other day, which prompted me to dig it out on CD. What a brilliant record!
I love this album. John Potter is such a good singer, and Dowland’s music is lovely.
Playing on Compact Disc - Live Acoustic Greatful Dead from 1980
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Devils Night Out.
Debut album from these guys from Boston, ................ credited as the originators of Ska / Punk .......... yes, really.
A bit of a hoot all round.
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band on vinyl - it still has the price sticker on it from 1981 when I paid £6.99. At the time I was playing this and the Beano album back to back. The guys in the flat downstairs were eventually converted.
