Marillion's F.E.A.R. in the first part of this performance:

I highly commend the video which I actually bought in iTunes and am watching/listening to on my Samsung TV Airplayed to the Nova/NAP 250.

The performance has grown and grown on me - Steve Hogarth is quite the character, but the more times I watch it, the more I enjoy his rather theatrical mannerisms.  It really seems as though the band are truly humbled by the venue and audience support, the more I hear tracks from F.E.A.R. and particularly seeing Hogarth's gestures singing the title song, this is rapidly becoming a favourite album/video much to SWMBO's annoyance.

Trying to get my music fix before the women/valkyries descend to watch The Voice

Bill Evans - The 1960 Birdland Sessions

I didn't know this recording even existed until I read about it last week in Peter Pettinger's biography. The sound isn't great - it's a radio broadcast from a number of sessions and there's quite a bit of audience chatter - but it is another recording from the legendary trio with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian and that can only be a welcome addition.

Back to the 80's for me tonight, rediscovering Soft Cell - what a helluva voice Marc Almond has, he doesn't hold anything back. This is one of my favourites, now playing on vinyl:

Must dig my copy of that out - in many ways I think they were a bit ahead of their time, as some of the stuff on that and This Last Night in Sodom is quite challenging, and never resonated as easily as the stuff on Non Stop Erotic Cabaret which I must say is one of my favourite albums ever -  were it not for many of the tracks, let alone the cover, being very seedy I suspect they would have had more acclaim.

Having just finished listening to the radio commentary of my lot's game at Norwich I've decided to bask in the glory of victory with an old Floyd favourite of mine.

2014 reissue vinyl originally released 1971 - Here Comes Shuggie Otis is the debut album by guitarist and songwriter Shuggie Otis, when he was only 18. Produced and arranged by his father, Johnny Otis and Dan Aldrich. Great album. ????

I think this is the original vinyl album, has a £9.99 sticker on it from HMV, but it doesn't sound good at all :

Random choice, maybe never that good originally, but daughter seems to like it (and she's never heard it before):

On original vinyl.

Thomas Schippers delivered, in 1967, a recording of Ernani that I don’t expect to see equalled anytime soon. The stars are Schippers and Leontyne Price, then in freshest and smokiest voice. Unfortunately the sound quality has always been subpar, with constrained top and bloated mid bass, and the latest hires transfer isn’t appreciably better than previous incarnations. Still, a must hear.

cheers EJ

Get the album before it as you may like that as well. Last years effort from him was a live acoustic album.

This is the earliest thing I have by him. Think it came out the year before the above album. Well worth getting a copy if at all possible.
