On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Kevin-W posted:Original vinyl from 1978. I remember (schoolboy as I then was) being very excited, having saved up for three weeks, to buy the 'Cocks debut album. It didn't disappoint then and it doesn't disappoint now.
There is a bunch of Buzzcocks albums being re-issued within the next few months.
Jimmy Smith - Cool Blues
Recorded in 1958.
- Alto Saxophone – Lou Donaldson (tracks: 1 to 6)
- Drums – Art Blakey (tracks: 1 to 3), Donald Bailey (tracks: 4 to 8)
- Guitar – Eddie McFadden
- Organ – Jimmy Smith
- Tenor Saxophone – Tina Brooks (tracks: 1 to 4)
House to myself this morning, so I'd thought I'd give this angy, angry young woman a spin with some volume. What a talent she is.
The "doom laden" chord changes/sequence in "Hold Back the Night" give me chills.
And this a pretty bleak take...
"Everything's burned
Everyone's gone
What we once were
Now we are not"
Time for a bit of Stravinsky, as interpreted by Mr Rattle and various orchestras. I particularly like his "Petrushka".
My favourite Seal albums are his first two. This one comes in third. It has different style eg more ballads, which I think works really well.
Art Blakey - The freedom rider
- Bass – Jymie Merritt
- Drums – Art Blakey
- Piano – Bobby Timmons
- Tenor Saxophone – Wayne Shorter
- Trumpet – Lee Morgan
Now playing.......
Maciej Obara Quartet - Unloved
Maciej Obara (alto saxophone), Dominik Wania (piano), Ole Morten Vågan (double bass) and Gard Nilssen (drums).
Streaming on NAS........... a little something soft, mellow and beautiful to ease into this Sunday morning, and sounding mighty sweet!
Sunday afternoon soul from the Master....
Otis Blue (Original 1966 UK 11-track MONO vinyl LP on the plum and red Atlantic label.
Vaughan Brothers - Family Style.
As it's Sunday afternoon. Something about the music from this period (before i was in my teens so not appreciated / on my radar at the time) that i really enjoy. Tom Robinson in the seat today...
Got some time ago in these guys. A varied catalogue with some absolute highlights and some lesser album, this one will need more spins to appreciate...
3cd compilation.
(1969)
Monster Movie
Some Can for openers... great stuff from this classic German band who were at the forefront of European experimental rock 'n stuff back in the day. This was their debut, sounding terrific ripped from Spoon Label hybrid SACD.
Ages since I've played Foreign Affair. Tina T can certainly boogie
Playing on Vinyl - Some mighty fine Dub from Prince Far I from 1979.
Tomasz Stanko - Suspended night
Just beautiful.
- Double Bass – Slawomir Kurkiewicz*
- Drums – Michal Miskiewicz*
- Piano – Marcin Wasilewski
- Trumpet, Music By – Tomasz Stanko*
(1972)
Ege Bamyasi
Going for another Can, once again from the 2004 Spoon hybrid SACD remasters of those original vinyl re-issues.
OK I'm gonna join [@mention:22826037044169924] here and play some Can. On two-channel DSD to analogue, via SACD:
The Doors - The Doors
Bought a Rhino vinyl copy yesterday just for the hell of it. My Project Debut Carbon is doing an admirable job and is taking me back to the early 80's when I first discovered Jim and his fellow bandmates.
Excellent stuff and well worth the £16.00.
Tidal. Laura Nyro - Angel In The Dark
Finally ripping CDs to storage, and playing some albums haven't listened to in a long time. Unfortunately, the software would not rip the Talking Heads or DMB.
Now ...
I'd almost forgotten what an absolute stunner this is. It rightfully cemented their place as a significant part of rock history.

Yeah just had that with an album. Neither iTunes nor XLD would rip a playable copy.
