What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XV)

On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Chris Bevington & Friends.
High class be-bop though I've never been convinced by the 'Chesky sound' - recorded at too low a level and rather lacking in presence.
Alley Cat posted:I loved punk/new wave/synth groups from 70s/80s, the latter often included New Romantic groups and you didn't readily admit to liking them at school if you were straight - Duran Duran clearly had few issues with the ladies, but liking Japan, Visage and so forth was a bit out of the norm when the blokes wore make-up, though the girls loved it.
Ha ha, yes - I totally identify with you there Alley Cat and at that time I too subscribed to the mascara-wearing, hair-crimping crowd too and regularly enjoyed a beating but it was totally worth it for so-called street-cred with the fairer sex. By the early 90's that had all but gone and apart from Britpop and "Madchester", it seemed a far less colourful decade. I'm now re-living those times from the comfort of my listening chair in my flat, just me plus an LP12 and CDX2 for company. I have no complaints at all apart from the cost of new vinyl!
Emily Remler - Catwalk

Where did you get that Bert? Seems to be on pre-order at Qobuz UK for 1st Feb and tracks limited to 30 sec previews but sounds good.
I got it at the origin at eclassical.com, they also have it like often at reduced price upon introduction 12,69 USD, which even Qobuz will not offer at that price.

You seem to have found a better cover art image than I did yesterday. I frequently think I'm the only one playing Emily Remler albums on this forum.
Do you have any albums where she is playing as a guest? I'm keen to explore more of her work. Anything besides those albums listed on the AllthingsEmily website would be of interest to me.
Very thoughtful playing..

Have you tried her album that came after this one called ‘Together’ with the great Larry Coryell.

Thanks, Andy. Yes, I do have that one together with all six released under her own name. I also have about four others where she guested, but am trying to find others. I can thoroughly recommend the collaboration with the Richie Cole Quintet, Bossa International. She plays out of her skin on that album!
Richie Cole Quintet - Bossa International
Having mentioned it in the post above, I thought I'd better play it again. It's a very enjoyable recording of a live performance in Nimes, France on 16 July 1987. According to the sleeve notes from Richie Cole himself, the schedule didn't allow much time for them to polish their act so the record illustrates the original format of jazz, a jam session. It certainly has a great spontaneous feel to it. It's also a jolly fine, well balanced recording.
Playing on Compact Disc on Naxos - Very nice Vivaldi Basoon Concertos - Really getting into the Bassoon as an instrument of late as I am still getting more into classical
Playing on Compact Disc - A real favourite Rainbow album - Stargazer is truely epic, its got it all.Story really heavy drum sound and a blistering Blackmore guitar break and Ronnies pitch perfect vocal.
Still enjoying this 2016 release from Mick and the boys.
Playing on Compact Disc - First album with Ronnie James Dio on vocals and it really gave them a new lease of life as Ozzy was in a bad way health wise and it was a good parting of the ways as Ozzy's solo career outdid The Sabs especially in the States.
Playing on Cassette on TDK SA - X C60 - Fabulous power pop - rock debut from Big Star from 1972.

Hi Clive, I also enjoy her music. I have 'Waiting for spring' and ' Soular Energy' (Ray Brown) where she also appears as guest. I have seen you posting 'Waiting for spring'. On the Ray Brown album she only plays on one track. I don't know any other album that isn't mentioned on the AllthingsEmily website. Regards, Jeroen.
Playing on Compact Disc on Peter Gabriels Real World record label - Shahen Shah by the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Just Finishing................
Jack DeJohnette - Oneness
Jack DeJohnette (drums, percussion), Jerome Harris (electric guitar, bass guitar), Don Alias (percussion) and Michael Cain (piano).
Streamed on NAS....... A fantastic eye-opener from Jack and his quartet of players! Instantly brought a smile to my face a wonderful beat to kick of the day!

Thanks, Jeroen. I do have the Ray Brown album too and a couple of Susannah McCorkle’s where she contributes too. I have recently ordered the John Colianna album as well as the Rosemary Clooney one. I have seen an article on the internet suggesting that she might have featured on an album by Deuce too, but I’m so far unable to confirm. This isn’t listed on the ATE website, but I have written to Lu to see if she knows of it. I must do more research. Fortunately, there are many bootleg recordings on the ATE website.
Now playing..............
Jack DeJohnette - In Movement
Jack DeJohnette (drums, piano, electronic percussion), Ravi Coltrane (tenor, soprano and sopranino saxophones) and Matthew Garrison (electric bass, electronics).
Streaming on NAS.......... continuing on with Jack, for the simple fact that I love his music........ Sweet!

Wes Montgomery - Boss Guitar
