On the eve of a new year, it's time for a new thread.
Last year's thread can be found here:
Brilliant album...CD
September 1996, Paris - on DG
Double vinyl released 2014 - Blue Note Label produced by Glyn Johns, recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles and features Tench handling lead vocals, piano and organs, joined by a team of collaborators including a core band of Don Was, Ethan Johns, Blake Mills and Jeremy Stacey and contributions by Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Joel Jerome, Tom Petty and Ringo Starr, it cant fail. Great album ????
Grant Green - Idle Moments
Probably GG's finest outing. Some seriously creative hard bop here and so much to learn from. Recorded 1963. As good a player as Emily or Wes? Yes, definitely.
The News Quiz on R4.

The Look of Love: The Burt Bacharach Collection.
Now that looks like an absolute belter. I'm off to Tidal, then maybe a swim in the big South American river.
Nigel, did you take the plunge?. A couple of quid for a double album can't be bad.I was impressed how they managed to source most of the original better known versions of the songs, as they are THE versions.
Alan, I couldn’t find it on Tidal but looking on the River a pre loved example in very good condition is less than a quid! So it is already floating it’s way to my door.
Thnaks for pointing his one out. I am looking forward to hearing all those great artists singing Burt!
(2001)
Not of This World
Mid to late term Pendragon making fine prog-rock, I've always thought that this has been an underrated and overlooked album, having said that Pendragon have always been an underrated band here in the UK. They are still going strong and sounding fine in Northern Europe and the Scandis but remain under appreciated back at home.
Some blues sax for my Friday night ????????
Dirty Projectors - Lamp Lit Prose. A new band to me, but after hearing a few tracks off this 2018 album, I have bought the CD. I like this a lot - Prince seems to be an influence (particularly in the vocals and harmonies) with, perhaps, a dash of David Byrne / Talking Heads.
It's Friday night and I'm back in black but not Amy or Ozzy, this is the incomparable Colin Vearncombe. This superb debut gets played a lot here at Jonners Towers, superbly recorded for an eighties LP, now playing on vinyl:
- Friday night and I'm going back to B

I love the cover - she is very beautiful and sang beautifully! It is evocative of a period when I too was young.
Alan, what does it sound like and which songs do you like best.
Phil
Hi Phil, the album is well recorded, produced by Richard Perry, with a stellar cast of people helping out.The style is uncluttered giving prominence to her vocals and the two more better known songs "The Right Thing To Do" and "You're So Vain" are representative of how the record sounds. All the songs IMO are of equal quality and as an album it flows well ,but have to admit it is the only Carly Simon album I own ,so I don't know how it compares with the rest of her work.Recommended
Alan
Just ordered it. Thank you Alan.

Try Babes in the wood for a starter.....her voice is divine.
The xx - eponymous
A bit earlier this evening than last night, and a lot louder. Honestly, anyone would think I was buddying up to the new MD or something, in search of a higher forum ranking. As if #8 wasn't shame enough!
Great album though.
