Just arrived:
Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun. I really like this, I find it better than either Signify or Coma Divine.
Have also located a copy of Stupd Dream which will arrive sometime next week hopefully.

The last CD I bought was ...
Rocket from the Tombs - Rocket Redux
[Re-recording of early Pere Ubu material, with Richard Lloyd from Television]
Somebody mentioned this on the forum, but as the search function is broken I can't tell who it was, so thanks anyway.

ITC - Robag Wruhme - Wuzzlebud 'KK'

Honeydogs - 10,000 Years; the American XTC? I ask you. Brilliant band from Minneapolis. on a label associated with Aimee Mann and Michael Penn.

Three this week
Iron And Wine 'Our Endless Numbered Days'. A sllightly richer Bonnie Prince Billy. Pretty good if not spectacular.
Grand Drive 'The Lights In This Town Are Too Many To Count'. Mostly excellent, crisper, bit more guitar but the same big tunes. Possibly their best album yet?
Mull Historical Society 'This Is Hope'. A big ragbag of quirky pop, full of changes in mood and tempo that just about hang together. Bits of mid-era Blur in places. Lacks a real standout track perhaps.
For a while this thread was a bit more helpful and interesting because we tried to add a few lines of information or opinion about each album rather than just having a list. Can we keep it up?

Wonderful albums - haven't played much else since purchasing them a short while ago.
I was 20 in 1971 - can't understand how I've only just come to know of him.
I'm in a similar situation...I think what may have happened was, there was a surfeit of riches then in terms of Sensitive Young Men (or Women) With Guitars...I think he was just lost in the crowd, so to speak. His music is certainly timeless, the No. 1 quality I look for in new purchases now. Another reason I buy about a dozen new CDs a year, if I'm lucky (not counting re-releases/re-masters of old gems).

JJ Cale - To Tulsa and Back. My first JJC album, and it's been on regular play in the car. Very laid back sound overall, with no duds and three or four stunning tracks. I never realised just what an influence he obviously was on Mark Knopfler.

Buena Vista Social Club -
Great stuff, Cuban rhythmn's, Superb Recording.
Blur - Think Tank.
Why O Why did I buy this!! After not liking any of the singles I thought I'd give it a miss, but got tempted in by £5 offer in fopp. A mistake, it's complete rubbish. The stark instrumentation just highlights how whiney Damon's voice is. (Quite like the track 'jet'? but otherwise bobbins.)

Dropped upon the Ludwig docks:
The Fiery Furnaces- Blueberry Boat (Fresh bouillabaisse of excellent if not flawless indie songs, some gutsy and silly carnivalish gambles)
Pete Rock- Lost and Found: Hip Hop Underground Soul Classics (Rock-produced tracks from the 90's with sick beats but some piss-poor rhymes)
M83- Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghosts (Trippy saunter through lush fields of sounds with occassional space cadet vocals; just released in the US w/ a bonus disc)

Iron & Wine- The Creek Drank The Cradle (Not-as-fab back catalog of a folkster whose new one I love)
V/A- The Third Unheard: Connecticut Hip-Hop 1979-1983 (Fun, early hip-hop archive from Mr. Magic and others)

Hi,
Via Amazon and all bar one as a result of the riders evening:
Mindy Smith - One Moment More; very good voice and very good music - sounds a little like lena marlin but much better. Songs have a regigious undertone but the playing is superb (A Roger Poll bring along)
India Arie - Acoustic Soul; very smooth with good timing and clarity - sounds a little like erica badu but again better! (A Roger Hopgood bring along)
Solomon Burke - Don't Give Up On me; what can i say about this? very dry soul/blues stuff & good loud! (An ernie F bring along).
Porcupine Tree - One Stupid Dream; been flogging this to death on MP3 so decided to do the right thing and buy the cd.
andy c!

Known Unknown, Vernon Reid & Masque; the album I've been waiting for from VR...a no-apologies metal/funk/jazz guitar blowout with a sympathetic supporting cast. Makes up for his somewhat pale showings on recent Jack Bruce outings. Crank up the flat-earth apparatus, and be amazed!

Listen to one of his solo albums - especially GP, and Return of the Grievous Angel - for the answer. Some of the various collections, best ofs and tributes are excellent too.

Land - Patti Smith
A compilation of 25 years of her work. Check out "When Doves Cry", "Higher Learning". Absolutely awesome and woth buying for these 2 tracks alone, but plenty of other good stuff too. Best CD I've bought for ages.
Sonic Nurse - Sonic Youth
Quite good this but I haven't heard much else by this band. Can anyone recommend anything else by them?

Our local Virgin Express is closing down and everything is 40% off.
Only had a short time to look (Mrs S wanting to get back home and it was sauna hot in the shop) but found the following...
Gomez - In Our Gun
Muse - Hullabaloo
Sigur Ros - ba ba ti ki di do
Placebo - Sleeping with Ghosts
Looking at the original prices on some of the CDs it is no wonder that their sales have been affected (£16.99 for Rumours anyone?) and that they are closing that branch.
