My first porcupine tree purchase. Good or Bad ? Not sure on the first listen, wasn't quite what I was expecting. Anyone have any suggestions as to a 'best' album?
Posted on: 29 September 2009 by Nigel 66
Thanks for that recommendation.

Do you know whether there's anywhere I can get a vinyl copy?

Zero7's new one, 'Yeah Ghost'. Arrived today - just as well, we're seeing them tomorrow (UEA Norwich)! Have had a quick listen at lunchtime, seems to have some good stuff on it.

Haven't heard all their albums, but I do have Coma Divine (live in Rome) and that is just fantastic

Thanks Munch, I'll get a copy on cd and maybe keep an eye out for the vinyl later.

In the meantime, I've ordered vinyl copies of "Fear of a Blank Planet" and "On the Sunday of Life".

Today's play list

Bought or played ROTF? Maybe the wrong thread, certainly the wrong music! Winker He'll never amount to anything.

You were right, as always, wrong thread - I was playing 'em. Though I would take issue with your second statement about not amounting to much as I really think he'll make it. He is a much maligned artist in my view and rarely makes a bad record though he can be a bit sentimental at times, but what's wrong with that, I'd like to know ....

I have his(Wings) one good album, enough for me.

I've just bought the complete Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin, by Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov. Very good it is too.

I've bought 5 CDs of works by Piero Piccioni in the last couple of weeks. All good but the last two are real crackers:

I Giovani Tigri - Lively 60s ... very addictive
L'Imprevisto - Superb early 60s smokey jazz

If i did i would have it.
The two cd set has not been out on vinyl as far as i know.
It is meant to be out on vinyl in the near future though.

They did release Signify on vinyl a few years ago but not with the Insignificance songs...

PT vinyl is like hen's teeth I'm afraid unless you buy it when it comes out it's gone. They do appear on E**y occaisionally but usually at stupidly inflated prices.

Signify and The Sky Moves Sideways are probably my favourite PT albums (as are Coma Divine, Recordings, Up the Downstair...)

Hope they re-issue In Absentia as that is the only one I do not have on vinyl (of those that were released on the format).

In an interview conducted the day after PT's opening show in Seattle, SW answered...

Q: As far as the reissues, will there be more made available through downloads or cd’s?
SW: Well Recordings will be reissued next year. I really cant remember what we have already made available through downloads. There are various legal issues involved in downloads. Some of the catalog we’re able to make available and others we cant because they don’t belong to us. We don’t have the digital rights. So it’s a little bit of a grey area to be honest. We ultimately would like to make everything available to download. We’re getting there and there is much more work to be done.

Q: What about In Absentia on vinyl….are you going to reissue that on vinyl?
SW: Yes!! Its going to be a very beautiful, beautiful piece. We’re gonna do it with the Dutch label Tonefloat… it just take time to do it properly.
