New Cowboy Junkies album 'Renmin Park'. Definitely outside their comfort zone, a semi-concept album complete with Chinese influences and field recordings. Not sure it all works but I'll work at it.

Available in the UK by download only I think (CJ website). First FLAC I've played through the HDX, boy does it sound sweet.

Interested to know your thoughts. Incidentally the website has some rather good acoustic tracks/albums for exclusive download-lots of content in fact. I'm not a huge 'fan' but certainly I found some good stuff.

Haim, this is one I intended to buy as well once the other ones arrive. Let me know what you think.

I don't think it is anything like his chamber works. These are a little more individual, personal, dreamlike with very interesting contrasts within the piece. I hope you like these because I feel I owe you more than one good recommendation after all the good music you led me too.

I've been listening to some clips of this, might appear on my list soon too. What do you think of it?

After three listenings I really like it, but don't think it is as as good his previous album 'April'. The new album focuses on his guitar playing more than his voice, but the strength of the songs on 'April' and the gentle melodic backing I think will stand out as his finest work.

The whole of 'Admiral Fell Promises' is currently on his MySpace site:
http://www.myspace.com/sunkilmoon

There are a few tracks from 'April' on You Tube:

'Blue Orchids'

'Lucky Man'

'Lost Verses'

'Heron Blue'

I also think the final Red House Painters album 'Old Ramon' is his best other recording:

RHP 'Void'

Lots of other links there too.

If the new album tempts you if you order direct from the Caldo Records website you get the free 'I'll Be There' EP with it.

I am very biased, as I have loved Mark Kozelek's music since I first heard Old Ramon in 2001, but I do think the new album is good.

Great stuff Jamie, thanks for all the links.

In the spirit of the forum I'll think of a suitable artist to return the favour...

If you are not that far away you would be welcome to pop over for to listen through a few albums, or I could drop some off for you.

I am in Leeds, so not sure which end of North Yorkshire you are at?

We live W of Skipton (scarily close to the Lancs border) but thanks for the offer. Lived for 2 years on Estcourt Terrace behind the Lounge cinema in Headingley many moons ago though
