New York Tendaberry by Laura Nyro. Found it by chance in a sale rack for £4. Didn't have anything by her but I'd read that she was in some ways a precurser of Cat Power angst and awkward female songwriter. A good record - sounds in places like Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Carole King.

What's this like? Their new one is a Top 5 '04 Ludwig sort of album.
Ludwig,
It's rather good, IMO, with moments of excellence. Mostly acoustic music with tape loops and the woman singing over the top, etc. I'll probably find their latest, based on this.

. I played a few clips of the "The dirty south" on the web recently which seemed pretty good to me so might invest in a copy. In fact I saw Southern rock opera in the shops today, but at £18.99 had to decline.
This is available for £5.99 in my local MusicZone (Stockport).

Worth buying it at that price even if you don't like em.

Andy,
can you expand on the "Some Devil" album when you've heard it ? It was used as the closing track on the film "21 Grams" (really good rental, very bleak, excellent performance from Penn / Benicio del Toro / Naomi Watts).
Surely not of The Dave Mathews Band?

Hi Brian,
yes it is he from the Dave matthews Band that you mention in your post.
I was put onto this Cd by David Boshell - he uses it for a test CD, and I really liked the songs. Matthews seems to have a 'chesty' sound to his vocals, but the production is first rate. My copy is an IMport from Amazon market place via caiman.com. I haveh as several CD's from this company all have been delivered undamaged etc etc.
At the riders evening one of the discussions was of better quality sound from US discs, although I have been unable to comare...
hope this helps - I'll listen to it more after I have got bored with Jimmy Smith - i am flogging that for all its worth at the moment - it's brill.

Purple Hearts - "Beat That": mod revivalists from the late 70s, incredibly fresh sounding, like the Buzzcocks with attitude
Pink Floyd - "The Division Bell" - HMV knocking out Floyd CDs for £7.99, I could not resist.
Regards
Mike
Spending money I don't have on things I don't need.

Talk Talk- Spirit of Eden - Been meaning to buy this for years.
Jam - Sound affects - Remaster to update older version
Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque. Only had on tape before. Now I can hear why they were accused of plagarising Big Star !!
Elvis Costello - New album - The Delivery Man- sounds pretty good on first hearing . On this he performs with the Imposters ( two thirds of the Attractions ). A rock/blues/soul/country set .
Regards,
Rod

The Thrills - Let's Bottle Bohemia.
You know when you have a bath, and your body gets saturated by the water and you get prune like fingers? Well, this album is like having a shower. It does the same job, but you don't get soaked and water-logged. In fact you could do it again immediately and you stay nice and refreshed rather than heavy and sluggish.
Great for sunny mornings.

On The Sunday of Life - Porcupine Tree
Just re-issued by Snapper. PT's first album although as Steven Wilson says on the sleeve notes it was never reallly intended as an album much of it consisted of things he produced in his bedroom and mixed down to cassette with many of the master tapes now missing so quality may be an issue (I'm listening on the portable so I'm not going to pass comment on that).
What is clear is that SW is an incredibly talented musician with plenty of ideas.
For anyone who has only heard recent PT this is quite different and has been compared elsewhere with early Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett era) which on first listening is fair I suppose. Its very whimsical, using fractured structures, strange, non-sensical lyrics and found sounds.
I also recently tracked down one of the few remaining copies of Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape on yellow vinyl (my first ever coloured vinyl disks! I always avoided them in the late 70's/early 80's and went for boring old black) which was put together from the same source so I knew what kind of thing to expect.
Maybe one for the real fans (Garyi try the more recent stuff first) but a worthwhile purchase. I've yet to find a duff PT album and that includes the ones they've released composed of the floor sweepings from other albums (e.g. Recordings which is superb).
Look out for more PT re-releases on Snapper, coming ... eventually.

Hangover You Don't Deserve by Bowling for Soup
According to my students it is 'Punk Pop'.
I am now slightly frightened that I may become contaminated by Young People's Music
