Counterparts and Test For Echo - Rush just to complete my Rush main album collection. Not IMO their best albums but " squeaky one" (to quote NL) is less queaky and overall 2 more mellow albums.

Hawkwind - Master of the Universe £2.99 in HMV I have no idea if its any good but the price is right. Nothing on the insert to say otherwise so I assume its them as it was filed with other Hawkwind CDs.

Alex
I note the Howe Gelb-let me know what you think. I have 'Confluence' but it is a bit too inconsistent to be a favourite. Have you (or anyone else) heard the new Giant Sand 'Is All Over The Map'?

Got the lastest by the Roots (The Tipping Point) and the Libertines (The Libertines) today.
To soon to talk about yet, but both sound promising.

Bruce,
FWIW I much prefer "The Listener" and "Giant Sand is All Over the Map" to "Confluence". But if you didn't like that latter you might want to try to listen first.
Alex -- New Interpol is ace. Am listening at the moment.

For some reason I just never managed to get into the first Interpol album even though it's the type of stuff I would normally like (I much prefer The Rapture album for instance). I guess their second is more of the same? (It's had pretty good reviews, but then so did the first!)

Bought this week
Blue Nile 'High'. Still undecided about this. A tad uninspired.
Nick Cave 'Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus'. Excellent, first ever Cave album I've bought, may not be the last.
The Village, Original Soundtrack. Easy on the ear and enjoyable (as was the film).

I really like the Interpol. A notch below the debut but still very good. But then I am sucker for sing-a-long-a-indie doom laden miserableness.
"The Listener is tremendous, although a little 'lounge' in places."
It's the odd quirky curveball that makes his work stand out I think. If you like that you'll definitely like the new Giant Sand.

PS Did you know the Embrace keyboard player posts here?

I like Nick Cave.
I've got 'The Good Son' (on vinyl).
Now there's an album you can sing along to.

I totally agree with Alex here, I just completely disagree that he can't write a good tune. Fair enough his voice is far from the most technically adept you will hear, but it suits his songwriting and there's plenty of singers out there with worse voices.

From the good people of Sonic Boom-
Silver Jews- American Water (rec by SSB)
Interpol- Antics (rec by Robinson)
Vetiver- s/t (rec by hippies)
I had my hands on the new Brian Wilson but then I remembered that I don't like Brian Wilson.

So, how is Smile, anyway?
I finally got Big Picture by Cotton Mather; it's obvious that Noel Gallagher got "(Probably) All In The Mind" from CM's "40 Watt Solution". I think both songs are great, btw. Cotton Mather are exactly the sort of band I go for; you can tell they live for Revolver.

Nick,
I do not like The Beatles or grown men who hide under blankets for extended periods of time. Or surfing.
I do like Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young in case you are keeping count.

Do you really not like the VU?
Try Live 1969. Honest, you should. Since you like Yo La Tengo I'd be bloody surprised if you didn't like it. It's in 2 volumes. Volume 1 has "What Goes On", which is a thing of joy, but both volumes are wonderful.
The last CD I bought was the 10 CD Revenant box of Albert Ayler recordings, Holy Ghost. Haven't had a chance to hear any of it yet, but it's a beautiful artefact:

No, I like the mellower VU moments. My initial reaction to my first VU purchases was merely "hmmmmm" because it followed 120 posts by people telling me how wonderful they are (satisfaction = performance - expectations).

Hi Expat,
Garbarek - Praise Of Dreams. What is your "second listen verdict" ? Being a confessing Garbarek follower and concert goer (depending on whom he plays with), I was quite disappointed...
Wakenius - Forever You. On my shopping list. Any worth buying, IYO ?
Kenny Barron - (Both). Any comments ?
Haden / Barron - Night and the City. Ain't that great stuff ?
Carsten Dahl/Arild Andersen/Patrice Heral - Moon Water. I have most of the Anderson stuff at home. Is Moon Water worth a listen ?
Oregon - Crossing. Worth buying ? I like their live recordings and the projects of Walcott (Codona1,2,3), Glenn Moore (everything, solo and with others), and Towner (Solo).
Best regards, freundliche Grüße
Stefan
