The Ocean: Anthropocentric

Very good album from a very good band which mixes death metal, clean voice, a bit of electro and adds a thin layer of acoustic jazzy ambiance.

Interesting choice with the Silvestrov - what made you choose that?

Probably does require a bit of explanation.

Music for me has always been a journey. Sometimes you venture off into exciting new avenues & sometimes the journey takes you right back to where you started. Since buying my Naim gear & joining the forum I've discovered new genres of music that a few years back I wouldn't have considered listening to for a second. I've also found record labels that I didn't know existed (Fat Possum, ECM, Nonesuch, etc) So it's all very excisting at the moment.

Currently on my journey, I'm searching for music that has the production quality of ECM, but with a classical bent. Recent purchases of note have been..

So in my quest for music in a similar vein I ended up purchasing the Silvestrov CD above. On further listening I've found that the orchestral pieces aren't quite as good as I thought they would be. However the Bagatellen piano recordings are mesmerising, almost hypnotic. Still not quite what I was after. I've got the two following CD's on order & I'm eagerly awaiting their arrival.

I think that I've come to the conclusion that maybe my search for similar examples on ECM might be fruitless & I might have to look to other record labels for the music that I'm after. However that won't stop me buying other titles like the one below along the way.

Any suggestions for my continuing journey? Especially of a more classical nature. Thought I might take a look at SACD releases on the BIS label.

Cheers

Thanks for the explanation. I will have a look through my New Series albums tomorrow.

There is an artist that immediately comes to mind though on New Series. She is a Greek film composer and she has written some beautiful soundtrack music released on ECM. It is classical, atmospheric, simple and beautiful.

Her name is Eleni Karaindrou. I have listened to her music for many years now and it is especially good late at night in the dark. One of her albums (Music for Films) also has Jan Garbarek on it whom you have recently been listening to.

Shoot me an email if you can (addy in profile) and I'll be able to help you a little further.

Here are two of hers that I like.

Many thanks Lontano. I've had a quick listen to your recommendations on Amazon & liked what I heard.

Off to a barbecue, but will pick your brains later by e-mail if I may.

Haim,

I've always felt he was & is best in Schubert. His recordings of the Impromptus and the Fantasie (both early 80s) are supremely good. As is Pollini in the sonatas and the fantasie, by the way...
