Stefan - it is early evening here in Oz and I am just about to embark on an evening of listening (however I keep getting dragged away from the hi-fi as I am finding the forum addictive reading!).
I will let you know my findings on your questions as soon as I have got through all the CD's.
Cheers
Adrian

Great, Adrian !
While you do this I can report about two of my last acquisitions:
Lars Danielsson - Libera Me: Highly appraised by the press, recently. Not for me.
Brad Mehldau - Live In Tokyo: Man ! Mehldau produces like nobody else. x records every year. Many of them quite interesting (typically, because he gathers the right people around him). THIS one, played live in a smallish (at least judged from the recording) hall probably usually used for classical music, has all the energy Mehldau has to offer. If you liked Keith Jarrett throughout the 80's (before he was struck by that disease, one must say...) and wondered when/if somebody would come back up with that energy and musical flow on the piano: Here's the answer. Perfectly captured on disc (CD), the atmosphere of that musical evening sucks you in like nothing before for a long time...
Best regards, freundliche Grüße

Stefan,
OK, stayed up late and got through most of the list.
Garbarek - still good but did not grab me as much - will need another listen - I have to be in a Northern European mood to listen to this which sometimes is difficult sitting here in Sydney!
Wakenius - outstanding. Very easy going like Metheny, not challenging but there is a great depth to it and the sound quality makes the Naim sound great. You will enjoy this for late night listening. Take a look at a great website - www.jazzviews.co.uk and read the review there.
Kenny Barron - both of a very high standard. Also try the new one Images and Live at Bradley's. A highly rates pianist.
Haden/Barron - Night and City - listened to this on headphones and the atmosphere was awesome. I have been to this venue (the Iridium in NY) and this just added further to the atmosphere as I imagined exactly what it was really like being there.
Dahl/Andersen/Heral - OK, but will not get many repeat listens from me with so much other stuff to listen to - a few good tracks but some very average stuff
Oregon - not their best but good ECM sound and quite enjoyable.
I was going to buy Lars Danielssen and still will but I am warned! I have got the Brad Meldhau but have not had the time to give it a serious listening. Will try soon.
Another CD I recommend is Patricia Barber - A Fortnight in france - live and makes the Naim sound superb.
Cheers

Bought the new REM 'Around The Sun' yesterday. Only one full spin but it sounds worryingly nice, and largely forgettable.
Might grow, but I fear not.

My last purchase was Symphony X - V The New Mythology Suite. Not my normal cuppa tea but really rather good.

'Beastie Boys - To The 5 Boroughs'.
'Snow Patrol - When it's all over we still have to clear up'. This didn't grab me as quickly as 'Songs for Polarbears' on first play but it's growing on me now at a fair rate. Great stuff.

Derek Bailey/John Zorn/William Parker, Harras. Bailey and Zorn have some brilliant exchanges on this, Bailey is on particularly good, at times ferocious, form. All the while Parker keeps the heartbeat going. Really excellent free improv, easy to recommend. Beautifully packaged too, lovely Ikue Mori cover art.

Bought the remastered CD version of one of my fave albums, Steely Dan - Gaucho. I cannot believe just how different it sounds to my original release CD - there is so much more to listen to
Also bought

Charlie Haden, Joe Henderson, Al Foster - The Montreal Tapes
Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters
Herbie Hancock - Future Shock
Gerard Masters Trio - Island Life (Aussie Jazz)
And of course I ordered a copy of Fred Simon - Remember the River ...

Adrian,
Is this a recomendation for M. Peyroux ? (On my list, but dunno...)
Gianluigi Trovesi - Dedalo (Heavenly !)
Jon Balke - Kyanos
Gerardo Nunez - Andando El Tiempo (Perfect recording, very involving, musically)
Looks like the ACT label will be a clear ECM challenger for me...
Best regards, freundliche Grüße

Bought "Small Planes" by Innocence Mission. It's a collection of outtakes and b-sides from 1996-2001. Don't let that put you off, though - it works really well as an album. Some beautiful moments here. I'm a long-time fan. If you are new to them, try "Glow", "Umbrella", or this one.
Any fans of The Sundays, Over The Rhine, even 10,000 Maniacs, would likely appreciate this band.

Welcome!
Try Coltrane's Giant Steps, Crescent, and A Love Supreme. You could find they change your life completely (no exaggeration, when I first discovered Trane about 15 years ago I listened to almost nothing else for a year, and had bought every single recording I could find within a matter of weeks. There's something fundamental and true going on there.)

Let me know if the Oregon Moscow CD is a good recommendation. I eyed it up in the CD store last week and will buy if you think is good.
Thanks
