Alex,

On Built to Spill, start with "Perfect From Now On" (walls of guitar noise) and "Keep It Like A Secret" (more poppy). And see them live if ever possible- their shows are something special.

Ian and Alex,

You know, I had "Kind of Blue" and "Love Supreme" collecting dust for at least the past five years. A few jazz threads inspired me to dig them out one night and I was blown away. I immediately had to buy a few fistfulls more!

Thanks for the additional recs.

Let me know if the Oregon Moscow CD is a good recommendation. I eyed it up in the CD store last week and will buy if you think is good.

Thanks

Adrian,
you're asking the wrong person, because I love Moore and Oregon, but:
Moscow is special because of the orchestra combination. I don't like all I hear (sometimes too sweet, too much usage of the orchestra), but overall I must say: Another must-have for Oregon lovers, especially when reduction rules. Doubtlessly, the recording is brilliant. It's not in the notes, but this is one of the rare hdcd transfers that our beloved CDX2 and CDS3 just love to eat.

Another hint for you, because you have bought the Hahn concertos: Buy the Solo partitas if you haven't already. Hilary will glue you into your seat (if the Australian heat hasn't already done so...). Hardly EVER heard the "Ciaconna" more involving ! And she makes her instrument SHINE !

Happy to receive feedback...

Best regards, freundliche Grüße

Stefan

HI,
A couple of Hed Kandy compilations through my door:
Winter Chill 6.03 - very good double CD of chill out grooves - almost like a sampler.
Disco Kandy 05-04 - this CD was worth it for Inaya Day - Nasty Girl.

Any one into the lighter side of dance should try the Disco Kandy series - the production is 1st rate and there are no fillers IMO.

Elvis Presley, Boy From Tupelo; great selection of his early sides, I bought it at Starbucks(!). There's only a couple of obvious chestnuts (Blue Suede Shoes), the rest are just fabulous R'n'B, ballads and rockabilly. Reminds you of how great and original E. was in his mid-50's heyday.

Aaahhh..

'Tis a dangerous precedent you set here Howard, bringing 'Padded Cell' tendencies to the relative sanity of the Music Room...

Or, you could just be paranoid Big Grin

Leonard Cohen has landed-'Dear Heather'

My wife spent the evening listening on 'repeat' in her studio and pronounced it less slinky than 'Ten New Songs' (which she loved) but still very enjoyable. Looking forward to hearing it myself at some point....
