EJ,

Is he like modern day Backhaus?

I love his Impromtus just as much as Richter's.

I might explore his Beethoven but I am taking a Schubert ride, atm.

Wild Beasts: Smother

Appearing on lots of year end lists, the reviews intrigued me. First listen...yeuch....but I am definitely weakening. Little bit histrionic, but lots to discover. Good companion for Wye Oak 'Civilian' that I have been enjoying this year

Good album that an excellent over view of NEIL in those times.

Howard,

I have most of his work but missed this i think at the time?

Because it was a best of.

Only went looking for a copy because of Richards post on another thread.

Its a good album.

The SQ is also very good.

Very happy.

I cant fault it for £1.26

A reviewrers comment... http://www.amazon.com/Deep-Bre...stance/dp/B003C1TUVE

Songs like "Too Simple" show the blend of all things prog, smoking keyboards, flute sax,in a blend of ELP,King Crimson and a touch of that, remember, electric fusion.

Hi Stu,

Been playing this in the car this week and it gets better each play. I took a punt after seeing Gavin Harrison saying he contributed to a few tracks on Randy McStine's new album in 2012.
Lo-Fi Resistance is basically a one man band plus project. Randy McStine is the main force behind the music on ’A Deep Breath’. The styles cover pop, rock & prog, underpinned with solid songwriting. The range is so good, I'm thinking of an indie steve wilson

Here's a review - http://www.prognaut.com/reviews/lo-fi-resistance.html

BTW, bought it from cdbaby.

This Mortal Coil :

Just pre-viewed this box set on Amazon.Com music sampler.

There's a review in Hi-Fi World mag.

Mastered from the original analogue tapes at 24bit/96kHz.

HDCD encoded also, and apparently pressed as Japanese format CD's.

If you're a Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Colourbox fan you may be interested.

There are also guest appearances from Buzzcocks' Howard Devoto and others.

Not cheap at £78 (Amazon UK) , but cheaper than the £105 indicated in the mag.

P.S. There will be an audio/video Blue-ray disc release soon with an extra track variant of 'Kangeroo'

Sokolov: Complete Recordings

Been told that he's the modern day Richter.

Curious to find out if that's true.

Posted on: 12 December 2011 by EJS
Kuma, he's still relatively young but apparently does not like to record. I've seen him a couple of times in Amsterdam where he's become a regular guest in recent Lears. Please share your findings! EJ

EJ,

Ah.. that's great that you got to listen to him live.

Which tunes did he play?

He's up in his 60s so not so young.

Posted on: 13 December 2011 by EJS
Bach and Schumann in 2010 and 2011, and we're all waiting for next year's playlist (May 2012). Cheers EJ
