Hi Ken,
getting on fine with them here, nice clean playback considering these are recordings from the 1950's.
The Blakey box-set price has gone up slightly to £7.13 on Amazon.uk but it's still a bargain.
I've been collecting these 'Eight Classic Album' sets for a while now because they really are great value for money and sounding so enjoyable.... have a look on Amazon - plenty of other jazz artists too. The Mingus set is A+ and imho the Herbie Mann set is too.
Although if you have a special feeling for a paticular 'album' it may pay you to hunt down a nice vinyl copy.
Jazz music should be on vinyl really ![]()

i have tried to hunt down specific albums but they tend to go for silly money... like Hank Mobley 'Dippin', plus others...
I will continue to hunt, but will give these 'sets' from Amazon a good look in... many thanks

A pianist whose early Mozart, Bach and Schubert recordings I haven't enjoyed all that much, but based on some sampling, this WTC looks to be quite special. Also thanks to those who have posted this album in the listening thread earlier, for the heads-up and initial reviews.
Cheers,
EJ

Brahms Piano Concerto No.1: Pollini/Abbado/Berlin Phil
Just picked this up from the remaindered bin in HMV:-

Ryan Adams - Gold
Arrived together in yesterdays post : )

All from Amazon.uk
pre-ordered price before release: £4.99 each : )

Beethoven Piano Concertos: Goode/Fischer/Budapest Festival Orchestra

Zinman's Missa Solemnis.
I didn't care for the piano player in the Piano concerto but liked the way he directed the orchestra.

Amy MacDonald: Life in a beautiful light (Swiss edition) - Not taking much risks saying that she is my musical discovery of the year. Might have to do with the fact that almost everybody loves her here in Switzerland!

The Killers: Battle Born (deluxe edition) - Any Killers stuff is instant classic stuff to me
I really enjoyed Brandon Flower's Flamingo and to me, Battle Born sounds much like Flamingo did.

Lana Del Rey: Born to Die (deluxe edition) - The whole album is actually way better that I would have thought. Really glad I took the risk (bought it blindly, only heard "Video Games" before).

Great collection including a rework of The Human Menagerie & The Psychomodo. Great reminder of seeing them live in the 70's

A couple of bargain purchases from a charity shop in Borehamwood, £1 each!!
Naxos CD

Joni - The Studio Years 10 CD set
Having only heard Blue & Hits before, I'm looking forward to listening to the later one's.
What's the general opinion. Early albums better - later albums better - all good ?
New remaster of Jethro Tull 'Thick As A Brick' by Steve Wilson. Very, very good it is too (as was Aqualung last year). Could I request he attempts to rescue Minstrel In The Gallery now-and then he can probably stop.

''Naked Truth is a cross between Jazz, Prog Rock and Ambient music and fits in with other RareNoise projects precisely because it is omni-genre.''

Bang Bang Lang Lang/Eschenbach: Beethoven Piano Concerto Nos. 1&4
I remember I was so unimpressed with this CD when it came out.
But saw one for a penny so decided to toss him in my Beethoven PC1 ring to see how he holds up now.

Apparently Jimmy Page is currently remastering the Zep titles again for a future release as a individual album boxsets with extra trax next year and that's official.

There are some mixed reveiws coming out re this release. Apparently the 5.1 mix has glitches in it and may be mastered a little hot. A lot of people are commenting on how in some places the cymbals nearly take your head off and the mix is thin as well.
Haven't listened to the whole album myself yet.
The release is also missing a little line that Ian speaks at the end of one of the tracks that's on the original relase and the MFSL.

You shouldn't be disappointed by any of them.
