Big Grin

Actually funny you should say that...

I was listening to it last night, and had got as far as the second disc, which covers their post-Gabriel years in mid- to late-70's, when it suddenly dawned me....

This is exactly what Porcupine Tree are trying to sound like....!!

I've got all their albums up to when Gabriel left and only Seconds Out from after that.

I've got most of Peter Gabriel's albums.

I looked at "The Platinum Collection" on the Amazon site, I think the order of the CDs is interesting. They work back from the 'pop' period Genesis and hide the good stuff on the 3rd CD. Many people who only know the Collins fronted stuff probably won't ever play CD3 more than once.

Did you also buy Robbie Williams Greatest Hits
or Love Songs: A Compilation... Old and New by Phil Collins?

Hee hee, no I am not that desperate! Big Grin

I can just about take Collins' nasal whine on the Genesis stuff but to listen to him trying to sing love songs and I think I rather want to throw up Eek

Cheers,

JR

PS: Next on my list is a Barry Manilow compilation.... Razz Razz

John Lee Hooker - Shake, Holler & Run - '50s and early '60s stuff when he was really hotand cookin'.

Grateful Dead - American Beauty - did the Byrds do it better?

Folk Routes - compilation of Island folk rock bands: good stuff.

The Blue Nile - Hats - doesn't sound that much different from this year's High.

Ramones - Anthology - 2CD overview of their career. Ist CD is fabulous, the 2nd not so.

Red Snapper - Making Bones - my first foray into electronica and I really like it. Good sound for you HiFi nuts as well.

Nirvana - In Utero - excellent, but you knew that.

Blur - Parklife - classic Britpop.

Jennifer Lim - Chopin Piano (Sonata #3, et al)
Cecil McBee - Alternate Spaces (with Chico Freeman, Don Pullen,et al)
Chico Freeman - Still Sensitive (a sequel to "Spirit Sensitive"; my all time classic for acoustic Jazz quartet)
Ten Piano Players - Volume One (with John Taylor, Jasper Van't Hof, Aki Takase, et al) all playing their tunes on the same piano in the same studio (no, not at the same time...)
Ten Piano Players - Volume Two
Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Max Roach, Charlie Mingus - Quintet Of The Year (with a concert of the century, I might add)
Sviatoslv Richter - Live solo piano recordings 1961-1978; Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt (Gems re-discovered and published on the Brilliant label)
Keith Jarrett - Fort Yawuh (with Redman, Haden, Motian)
E.S.T. - Seven Days of Falling (So, I made the plunge...)
Tripla Concordia - Musicke From the Ayre (Pre-Baroque Music from Purcell, Locke and Jenkins played by an acient music quartet with a friend of mine playing recorder; highly recommended if you're into this era of music)
Erkan Ogur+Djivan Gasparyan - Fuad (if you can ever get hold of records with the phantastic Turkish guitar player Erkan Ogur, grab them, hold them and run (after paying) - it's a shame that the world has not taken further note of this extraordinary musician)
Argerich / Abbado - Beethoven piano concert #2 & 3
Yundi Li - Chopin Scherzi / Impromptus (another rising star on the piano horizon - to be watched...)

Best regards, freundliche Grüße

Stefan
