queen--the highlander sound track
Just arrived:-

On its way.
This is a confirmation of the Aaron Diehl recording which I have ordered from CD Baby. These guys from the West Cost are way over the top. I am trying to imagine what they would have done for me if I had bought from them ten discs and not only one..

(1) Aaron Diehl Trio: Live At The Players
Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.
A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our world-renowned packing specialist lit a local artisan candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.
We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved "Bon Voyage!" to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, June 10, 2013.
We hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. In commemoration, we have placed your picture on our wall as "Customer of the Year." We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!

Maschine - Rubidium http://www.maschineuk.com/index.html
The core of the band is vocalist and guitarist Luke Machin, who formed the band at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music in 2008. Machin’s prowess as a guitarist has been drawing praise for virtually his entire life. He was introduced to the world as the guitarist-extraordinaire on The Tangent’s COMM, a performance which received universal acclaim.

Hi Kevin -
Will be interested in hearing your thoughts on sound quality.
IIRC, when this set first came out, there was debate over whether or not this was a new remaster, or just a copy of the mid-90's Jimmy Page remaster. In either case, my understanding is that the manufacturing was done in Japan, and to a pretty high standard.
Thanks!

Hook, the quality is very high - a bit like the Beatles monos. Exact replicas of the original sleeves, down to the inner bags, the rotating wheel on "III" and the cut-out windows on "Physical".
As for the SQ, it's fine, and definitely better than stuff like "Mothership" and the few "bog-standard" CDs I've heard. To be quite honest, I've only ever listened to Zep on vinyl (apart from "How The West Was Won" of course) so I'm not an exert on the various CDs.
However, even to my novice ears, they don't sound as if they're casualties of the "loudness wars".

Great news Kevin! Just ordered it ($90 new, through an Amazon seller). Thanks a lot!

PS - Interesting how Page got it right 20 years ago, but then so wrong on Mothership. That was the last time I bought any new release of any kind on day one. Now I wait for the reviews...
PPS - Ok, except for The Beatles stereo vinyl box set, which I preordered for fear they would sell out. Dumb move. Fortunately, Amazon is very good at processing returns with no questions asked. By contrast, I bought Mothership from a local music store that only does return/exchanges for vinyl, and then only if it is scratched or warped. ![]()

Good price for the set Hook.
But check it carefully as there are a lot of Chinese fakes out there. The things you should look for are:
1. No working wheel on LZ III
2. No cut-out windows in PG
3. Poor quality printing
4. Ill-fitting or poor quality inner bags
5. The alternate sleeve for LZ1 and the five alternate sleeves for ITTOD are missing
6. Poor quality box
7. Missing obis (all the albums have these)
8. Non-textured cover on TSRTS
9. Missing paper bag for ITTOD
10. Missing belly band on HOTH
If any of these are the case send it straight back as you probably have a counterfeit!
On another note, I've just noticed that TSRTS is the 2007 version with extra tracks - not listened to it yet to see how it compares but it's definitely manufactured in Japan.
