New at Xmas

Ali Farke Toure: 'Red' and 'Green' just re-released as a pair on World Circuit. Fabulously played, sparse and rustic, mesmerising at times, a 'must buy' if you like like this sort of thing.

U2 'How to Defuse an Atomic Bomb' Pompous, overlong, old-fashioned etc etc. Also rather enjoyable.

The first instalment of Sir Peter Maxwell Davis's Naxos Quartets. I still don't quite understand them, but it's mighty impressive writing, impressive playing, and impressive sound. Worth five of anyone's quids, I recommend it.

Just arrived via E-Bay a promo for the film "Tonite Let's All Make Love in London" 2 Floyd tracks Interstellar Overdrive (16:46) and Nick's Boogie (11:50) apparently the first recordings by PF before they signed for EMI, plus interviews with David Hockney and Lee Marvin. A poster folds up to form the sleeve/cover.
Anyone remember see this film? Bearing in mind it was 1967.It inlcuded PF, Stones, Small Faces, The Animals and some actors.

H-

Ingenue is one of my favorite discs; Invisible Summer I found confusing. What's your take on them?
Posted on: 12 January 2005 by BigH47
I have only listened once and then not in "full concentration" mode. I heard nothing to stop me playing them again. I bought them both "on spec" so no knowledge of her music. Saying that I did recognise a couple of tracks. Ingenue is a simpler mix and I preferred it(so far).
I think they will go into "rotation".

Adrian,

How are you liking Sakamoto's 'Soundtracks'?

Do you have the 'Opera' ?which i think also is very good.
Posted on: 16 January 2005 by charliestumpy
Yeah - like that Floyd 'Tonite ....'

Kind wife at Chrimby got me S&G DVD/double CD 'Old Friends..' - as much as I like all their stuff, and most re-re-re-re-releases, this is supremely brilliant-magic issue.

Hi Kuma - not had a listen yet to the Sakamoto but I know it will be good - I also do not have Opera so will maybe give that a try sometime. I am working my way through the Philip Glass at the moment - all excellent stuff.
