Nothing particularly up with the musical content, although he certainly aint no JMH, its the general quality of the cd that's bugging me, bloody awful to my ears, unless of course it really is me/my system. That's what I was after finding out really.

I've got the hi-res download and I would describe the audio quality as patchy.  Some of the tracks are terrible and a couple are good.

I suspect what has happened hear is that the tracks have been recorded in different sessions.  Some a while back when GCJ was very much an emerging artist and with little money spent doing it properly, and some more recently when the label were willing to put some more money into it.

I've seen GCJ twice this year.  Once at the Crossroads festival in New York when I thought he was pretty average, and then a month later supporting Clapton at the Albert Hall when I thought he was terrific.  So maybe the band are patchy as well.  I liked his Later ... set as well.

And would you say it is worth getting the remaster if you have the original?

Hi David,

I haven't done the comparison between the two yet, but it does have a very open sound picture - I think it's worthwile as such given the DVD already.

Well Sting was bought on the strength of a CBC-TV news interview, otherwise I tend to agree with you.

He's probably thinking if the Police should reform so he could fix those tiles. It's all good.

Best

Was really wondering when there would be something new from Apocalyptica.  Not a real Wagner fan but this should have a nice twist to it.

Cheers,

Rob, the only album I have by them is Inquisition Symphony, which I have not listened to for a while. But I rather listen to that on a loop for 10 days than anything by stink!.

Allan Taylor : All is One.

The newest CD on the famous Stockfisch label. See the Allan Taylor website.

Again high quality, a quiet atmosphere, 68 years old.

Allan Taylor together with the German singer songwriter Hannes Wader: a very pleasant live registration, partly in German, found on amazon de.

Topic in my opinon is the 30 seconds a capella singing in English and German at the same time (song 13: It's good to see you).

Israel Nash Gripka : Israel Nash' s Rain Plans (2013)

A very nice production, like neil Young in his earlier days.

This record s more impressive than his 2011 CD:

Barn Doors and Concrete Floors

Sarah Neufeld : Hero Brother (2013).

She is the violinist of Arcade Fire in Montreal and made improvisations on the violin.

Constellation Records writes: Neufeld's debut solo album Hero Brother is flowing through shifting atmospheres and oscillating between restrained, stately ambience, emotive études, and raw kinetic energy.  Small touches of wordless vocalisation, harmonium and piano supplant the violin in a few places.
