So, you mean it's free?

This 2010 Verve compilation features Ramsey playing gems from the Lennon/McCartney songbook. he has chosen songs which lean towards 'later' Beatles. However, the album does kick off with a live performance of 'A Hard Day's Night'.
This CD is not the most demanding listen but an interesting 'jazzy' take on these pieces all the same.

Just in from Burning Shed, so called corrected polarity version:-

Arrived yesterday from Amazon:
Wagner
Operatic Highlights
Richard Strauss
Tone Poems
Metamorphosen
EMI recordings newly issued as a five CD set with Otto Klemperer and Philharmonia and New Philharmonia Orchestras. £15.03 including postage.
A tremendous set of recorded performances in every way. For once well balanced and spacious recording quality is given to great music making. This represents the only Wagner I have except Kirsten Flagstad sing the Wesendonk Leider with the Oslo Philharmonic in a live early fifties recording. On this Christa Ludwig makes a fascinating comparison with older Norwegian colleague!
Elsewhere we are treated to lithe. energetic and dramatic renditions of the famous "bleeding chunks" - what a marvellous phrase George Bernard Shore corned there - and four wonderful R Strauss performances. Till, Don Juan, Metamorphosen, and Death And Transfiguration.
None of this music usually catches me, but these performances do.

Has there ever been a more terrifying recording of
Seigfreid's Funeral March
than this?

Klemperer out-Furtwangers Furtwangler without a single hint of histrionics ...
And Wagner's apparition is held not only firmly in place, but with clarity and precision. No crazy dynamic over-emphasis, and terrific momentum, at a rather moderate - not fast OR slow speed!

The CD is far better than the youtube as rendered by iTunes ...
Bit of smart Yorkshire folk for my wife O'Hooley and Tidow 'The Hum'. Good it is too.
S. Carey 'Range of Light' Atmospheric, bit of a grower
Billy Bragg 'Live at Union Chapel' DVD/CD and a good load of extras. Top bloke as ever, a slick mellow performance. I don't buy live DVD's as a rule but make an exception for this.

I am not particularly a fan of Gergiev, but trying.
Discovery edition:-

Is it me? I have not got the faintest what this album is. I guess I won't be checking it out then!

Smash; Patricia Barber.
Good album, good sound, some tunes could have been better, musically not her best album but worth the money.

Strange that they released in Spring.

Strange that they released in Spring.
Maybe as advance advertising for the annual Schubertiad?
Oh that would be nice if there is one still.
Geofiz,
Thanks for the link. I have bookmarked it.
Maybe next year!
