My apologies. The band is Soen and the Album Tellurian. You can try it on Spotify and see what you think.

Not strictly a cd I suppose, but I have just bought the Solti Ring Cycle in its latest incarnation complete on one bluray disc.

The sound is much improved over my original vinyl recording & the later cd version.

I know the Solti Ring is not to every ones taste & I now have many other versions, but this was my first & set me on life time of opera going.

I clearly remember buying the vinyl set in about 1974 for £36 (reduced from £40) this, according to the Bank of England inflation calculator, would be £335 in today’s money. Not bad commitment for a 19 year old on apprentice wages.

The bluray was £43!

Released on May 11th, Technicians Of The Sacred is the first all-new Ozric Tentacles album since 2011's Paper Monkeys (and their first double album since their classic Erpland release of 1990), it comprises eleven tracks, with over ninety minutes of music.

Many thanks for steering me to these Nick they are as you described and what I am getting to really enjoy, I listened to all the samples of them both on the Hyperion website this afternoon and had to get them. I actually found it cheaper inc. postage to buy the new CDs from another famous site (surprisingly). I am going to post over on the "music you have downloaded thread" something you may well enjoy too, its 12th / 13 the century female vocal and has blown me away, that's why I had to downloaded it so I could listen to it in full and in full fat right now.

Long Live Rock and Roll by Rainbow, bought new, from the site with the rain forest name, for the grand sum of £3 to replace my damaged copy.  Now ripped and ready to stream tonight

Do you have a faultless way to rip from this to a Naim Audio server? I have the bluray disc which came with last year's box set but I know of no way to rip it to the NS01.

I just had a full first listen through spotify. And indeed was quite pleased with what I heard. It's one of the better progressive rock albums, however I wouldn't share the comment above that it's more or less without peer. I think there are better albums out there but it definitely will be on my buying list.

No, sorry, I just use my Sony Bluray player, so I am probably not getting the best out of it.

Sequentia - Hildegard Of Bingen

Hildy was the totally amazing Abbess of Bingen (duh) in the 12th Century. She did just about everything you imagine a woman of her time wouldn't, including writing a ton of wonderful music.

I have the Hyperion Feather On The Breath Of God CD, which is a classic, and an Anonymous 4 CD, which is very good, but this box set of eight discs for just over £10 was too much to resist.

The music, with the barest of accompaniment is as varied as it is beautiful. For example:

Thanks Nick, good knowledge and information (again) enchanting music on your clip. I had not expected to be going down a route exploring and buying gothic / medieval / ancient music but I seem compelled to at the moment, captured by the sounds and emotions coming down from almost 800 years ago in some instance. The Sequentia: Hildegard Von Bingen 8 CD box set has gone into my virtual shopping basket.

Soen - Cognitive

Posted on: 21 May 2015 by Nick Lees

Steve, this is off topic I guess, but when people into modern music ask about getting into classical the most frequent answers revolve around Mozart, Bach, Beethoven etc. Nothing wrong with that per se, but the sound world is often tricky for rock fans to get into.

For me there's something about Medieval and Renaissance music that sounds far more in connection with today's music.

Maybe be its just me, but the dance music of Tielman Susato (below) and Michael Praetorius (further below) are almost disco mixed with fusion and trance. OK, sort of. If you squint. A lot.

Philip Picket and The New London Consort recorded a couple of ace CDs on L'Oiseau-Lyre.
