I read some reviews saying the sound was excellent. It seems my copy was a 2nd selection.

From Discogs,  a 1994 EMI (UK) release, this was the first remaster of the album by Doug Sax.

Via Discogs; a 1984 original CD on the Fantasy label (West German release), no remastering and reportedly very good SQ.

Dear Bert, is the third box still interesting? I have the first two and already the second one was less engaging, so I kindly ask your comments before buy the last.

Many thanks.

Ciao, Maurizio

I am happy to answer - but first will have to rip them after some other ripping work. Let me get back to you around Christmas then I should be in a position to give you feedback.

Bert,

It's just recent that I decided to exploring the world of string quartets so I am now in a process of getting a few. Casals SQ has been mentioned by EJ and see what he was on about. Plus I only have one Mozart SQ recording: Juilliard SQ which I find too straight for my taste.

I've a high hope for Lewis' Mussorgsky as I think the program fits well to his muscular style. His Schumann would be a lucky strike extra if he pulls it off.

And of course the Winterreise. I try to listen to at least a new one every winter.

Only in the last month someone was asking for Jacquie’s performances of the two Haydn Cello Concertos ...

I suggested that Warner would soon issue the complete Du Pre recordings. Well this may not be all of them, but I’d be surprised if the Haydn Concertos are excluded! Perhaps Erich could confirm their inclusion of exclusion! Please?
