This is very good news. I was told that this box was in production. I have some of the CD's but not all. I like Gilels' versions of the sonatas very much. How do you evaluate SQ?
Regards. Erich
Hi Erich,
I haven't received the box yet, should be in the next days. But given the timing of the recording I expect it to be decent.

Steve,
Great CD. Hope you enjoy it a much as I do. I got in the bad habit at first of playing disc 1 and not getting around to disc 2. They're both equally good. Frusciante's guitar playing is compelling throughout.
On the original 1994 East West Label, surprisingly some twelve years after the film was released. As so often with Vangelis' recordings the dynamics are very good.

Thanks Joe, I saw you playing it the other day, so I went to put it on here only to find I no longer had it! A quick look at The River and I was able to snaffle a copy for less than a pound.

Metallica Steve? Did you get talked into that?

Not at all Simon, I have all their studio albums up to St. Anger (2003) plus S&M live. Missed out on Garage Inc. (for some reason) so though I would add it to the collection.

Good albums there I'm sure you will enjoy them. Lunatic Soul have become a favourite of mine lately, I can't remember if you have it or not, if you haven't do try their latest (2014) Walking On A Flashlight Beam.

My mistake Steve, thought I'd seen in the past they were not you thing. I love them upto the Black album. Then Death Magnet came out and I thought they are back. S&M live is great.

I looked then up because of your posts, very glad I did and I'll be adding the rest soon. These threads and Tidal will be responsible for me buying more music and it's all good.
Ludwig van Beethoven: Xavier Phillips (cello), Francois-Frederic Guy (piano)
Complete works for cello & piano
Resistance is futile. Or, stated more conclusively, I couldn't not get this
Maurice Ravel: Bertrand Chamayou (piano)
Complete works for Solo Piano
Same compulsion. Why do these guys have to keep recording music that I love. Wasn't the very first recording of everything good enough?

You will be pleased with this one.
Frederic Chopin: Artur Rubinstein (piano)
Mazurkas
Speaking of first recordings, this happens to be (I think) the first recording of the complete Mazurkas.
Frederic Chopin: Adam Harasiewicz (piano)
Mazurkas
Frederic Chopin: Yulianna Avdeeva (piano)

Just popped through the letter box.
JS Bach Keyboard Partitas, played by Helmut Walcha. I have long had these performances in a needle drop transfer from the original late fifties LPs. but it will be nice to have a master transfer to CD of these evergreen performances.
The original recordings were done in Germany, between 1957 and 1960, and issued EMI Electrola HMV LPs.
These CDs are made by a company called Doremi. I gave up the faint hope that EMI/Warner would ever issue these in Europe, though Toshiba have had them out in Japan on CDs for years.
I hopeful that this issue may be followed up with the French Suites and English Suites that Walcha recorded at the same time.
ATB from George
PS: The Walcha recordings mentioned above are given clean straight forward transfers to CD.
Recommended.
