Great times for collectors of complete editions! This box is tempting but did Decca use the individual jackets on the sleeves? That is what would clinch it for me.

After having fought my way through several poor CD versions, I discovered this one of Toni Basil:
This is a stonking good recording mastered in 1994.
Excellent dynamic range and free of all 'tailoring to fit' - meaning the tracks can get louder or quieter as required, which usually gets removed in the later 'improved' masters.
If you are a Fan of Toni then do not use the 1995 'Best of' with the red and white CD cover picture, as it is a shallow bland copy, with no deep bass, of the above - or even worse, do not use 'The very best of' one from 1997, as it is compressed to death and not worth playing compared to either of the others.
Unfortunately her Albums are not available on CD (I do have them on Vinyl) but only the compilations - but the one recommended is very good.
DB.

Don't know very often Decca doesn't and just uses one jacket for all. So hope this is different.
Filling a gap in my early Ozric's collection. Discogs.
39p at the fishy place !
Just bought both of these.
Continuing the vinyl afternoon
Saturday evening trip to the bookstore. I was really hoping to find some Knopfler solo CDs but none to be had. Still made out with these .....
Original 1990 CD
1992 Digipak
2001 enhanced CD
2006 2CD set
Guess I was on a bit of a Crow(e)s bender

Plant's latest from 2014 - happy to find in the used bin
Californication.. I bought that album when it came out on CD. I think it sounds dated now.. and its mix / production is quite edgy and compressed.. seemingly quite common at that time..
Joerand what do you think of it?
Simon,
Once I play it, I'll share my thoughts on Californication in the "What are you listening to ..." thread. Thanks for asking.
RHCPs are kind of the poster child for loudness mastering in Milner's "Perfecting Sound Forever ...." (which I'm still reading). There are some bands whose sound seems to work well with loud, compressed mastering. RHCPs and Green Day come immediately to mind for me. I like the RHCPs very much and find their musicality and John Frusciante's virtuoso trumps any mastering issues I might have with them. That said, I have a copy of RHCP's "Mother's Milk" on vinyl and it has probably the worst, most confusing SQ of any modern LP I own. Could be a bit to do with my expectations for the vinyl.
Prompted to purchase thanks to several recent forum postings.
Kind of jazz harp stuff from Edinburgh-based musician. First heard her on Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone on BBC6 Music.

No individual jackets of each album. You get four groupings and each group is represented by one distinct photo of Brendel as shown below. Backside of each CD has the track listings only. The book is really just the complete recording details of each disc with a few photos here and there. Sadly, it is just the basics and nothing more.
I think occasionally Sony puts out nicer box sets (Gould / Yo-Yo / Perahia etc.) where you typically get the individual jackets, a larger hard cover book and even a more classy box itself just for starters.
This is budget minded convenience only but typical of Decca/Philips/DGG/EMI. And I guess just due to the number of CD's this limits what they can do to sell this at a reasonable target price.
Nirvana. With The Lights Out (2004). A special request from my son to get this so we can listen together next time he's home from college. Have to admit, the boy's got good musical taste,
FWIW - he's currently fulfilling an elective requirement by taking the class "The History Of Rock 'N' Roll". God, why didn't they have classes like that when I was in college?
The King of Limbs, by RadioHead. 2012.
