Great times for collectors of complete editions! This box is tempting but did Decca use the individual jackets on the sleeves? That is what would clinch it for me.
EJ
Don't know very often Decca doesn't and just uses one jacket for all. So hope this is different.
No individual jackets of each album. You get four groupings and each group is represented by one distinct photo of Brendel as shown below. Backside of each CD has the track listings only. The book is really just the complete recording details of each disc with a few photos here and there. Sadly, it is just the basics and nothing more.
I think occasionally Sony puts out nicer box sets (Gould / Yo-Yo / Perahia etc.) where you typically get the individual jackets, a larger hard cover book and even a more classy box itself just for starters.
This is budget minded convenience only but typical of Decca/Philips/DGG/EMI. And I guess just due to the number of CD's this limits what they can do to sell this at a reasonable target price.
The mentioned boxes of Yo Yo Ma and Perahia I both have them, are indeed more beautifully produced. From a pricing perspective they haven't proven to be more expensive....

2 CD set
For some reason I have only CD1 of this shit NY set, now it's complete. Little hope CD2 holds anything better, but I've got a 30-day return policy to work with. We'll see.
Joe,
Count yourself lucky you didn't get the "Arc" disc.
1994 Definitive remaster edition due to arrive tomorrow.
This arrived earlier this week. Remasteed FM broadcast of gig at the Bottom Line in New York in 1978 in support of the "Inner Secrets" album I.e. Santana's "Disco" album.

Very good it is too!
Finishing up with my list from last evening. Looks like I bought a total of 22 CDs at once! I've never done that before, but the 30-day return policy allows me to buy with confidence. I imagine that 3 or 4 of these might go back for store credit in the next month, but then there'll be a new inventory for me to browse. A vicious cycle.
Beck. Sea Change.
Billy Squier. Happy Blue
Released today!
Bought at a gig on Wednesday night (from the group's leader, no less).
My best CD this year is the soundtrack to Get On Up from the James Brown bio pic of the same name. You can stream the movie on Amazon and the actual real life performances are on the CD, remastered, well sorted in chronological order, and very good. They track the movie pretty well, but it the real Mr. B, not the movie guy.
I have several JB on vinyl but this lays out his career from front to back and plays through better than you might imagine. If you don't own any JB, start here. This is really great for the iPad, the car, or the house. My wife hates it (because of the monotony and abusive behavior in the movie), but for scope and music, this is a strong recommendation.

I have both LPs on vinyl but I saw this, it was cheap, so I went for it.
