One of my all time favourites and apparently highly thought of by David Bowie. Was only released on CD last year. Up to now I've been surviving on a copy made from vinyl, which was not optimal. Originally released 1969, the Rovi review in Nstream is less than complimentary, but pay no attention. This is a masterpiece (apart from the French additions in this 'expanded' edition, with cringe making pronunciation).

'Children of Fear' is a stand-out track for anyone who remembers the divisions brought about in America by the war in Vietnam.

Hi David,

Just had a quick listen on Spotify and I know what you mean. Good help from some well known musicians- Wakeman, Philips and Dunbar. Problem is there were quite a few people doing the same folky-protest thing in the sixties but some were better than others. That does not mean it is a bad album.

It does have a good fan base judging by the price of original vinyl. I will give it a proper listen tomorrow. Thanks for posting.

Tony

Tony, this is definitely not a 'folky protest thing'. It is quite quite a tour-de force. Needs a number of listens to appreciate, and yes, a formidable crew, but the songwriting and delivery is superb IMHO.

Faure:  Eric Le Sage (piano) et al

Alpha are starting to really tick me off.  I purchased the first four volumes of this Faure series separately and now when volume 5 is released they seem to only offer it as a complete set.  So if you want volume 5 you have to buy the whole set (at a very discounted price).  They did the same with the Eric le Sage Schumann.  I spent probably $350 buying the 13 volumes one by one when they were released.  Then at the end they package the complete set for maybe 1/10th the price I paid.

Hmmph.
