I've recently bought several secondhand CDs containing versions of Gershon Kingsley's Popcorn:

Various - At Home With the Groovebox: Eleven artistes were given a Groovebox (a programmable band-in-a-box, which can emulate various "classic" synths and drum machines) and asked to use it to make music. IMO, the CD is worth buying just for Jean Jacques Perrey's groovy and comical The Groovy Leprechauns. Other contributors include Air, Pavement, Sean Lennon and Sonic Youth. The version of Popcorn is Popcorn 1998 by Gershon Kingsley himself. It could do without his repeated voiceover, saying "I did it first on the Moog synthesiser" and it's the sort of mix that one might expect someone other than Kingsley to do. Nevertheless I still prefer it to any of my other recent Popcorn acquisitions. [On the other hand, it's good to hear his voice - a very kindly German accent].

EPO vs Projekt House Punk - Popcorn: includes EPO Radio Cut, DJ Tomcraft Remix, EPO Melo Mix, Axel Konrad Remix, Sergio Ercolino Mix and Projekt House Punk ! Remix.

Various - Sweet and Salty... Popcorn Reheated: Fifteen mostly very liberal interpretations of Popcorn, which one wouldn't necessary recognise immediately. Some rather alarming drawings of a naked female on both covers and inside - definitely one to hide somewhere if you're as involuntarily prudish as I...

Shapedance - Popcorn: Four versions.

bug.96 - Popcorn: Three versions and another piece.

Cosmo and Tom - Popcorn: Ditto.

I twice tried to order a CD with the best known version (by Hot Butter) but both times the sellers turned out to be out of stock.

I plan to get more versions when I can afford them...

My first new CD single I think. :-
Pure Reason Revolution - The Bright Ambassadors of Morning, phew! New prog (should that be Nu Prog?) It is flavours of lots of bands Floyd, Zep, ELO, etc. OK+ I reckon.
It'll be interesting to hear the album when it escapes.

From Caiman (USA)

Sunhouse - Crazy On The Weekend - from 1998, got this after someone raved about them on the forum a few weeks ago. First impressions very good.

The Jim Carroll Band - Catholic Boy - a so-called lost classic from 1980. I think this is going to be a bit off the wall.

I've got an original vinyl copy of this with rather noisy surface noise.

What is it like on CD Howard?

Andy I have only had a chance to listen once so far. It sounded pretty good. It is re-mastered , the sound balance seems OK to me, I don't think they have added anything or mucked about too much. Only £5 from 101CD.

The The - 45 RPM
I only discovered The The last year when I purchased Infected. Bought this to see what the other albums might throw up - looks like I'll be buying more The The!

Martin L Gore - Counterfeit 2
Hmm. Will need more listens me thinks...

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Flippin brilliant!

The The should be fun trying to search e-bay for them as they ignore "the" in searches. 45 rpm should get a "few" hits too.
Won't stop me trying though.

Edit: Result, put The The in quotes and it searches and finds. Works for The Who as well.

[I expect this will be a bit quiet]

E-Bay purchases:-

Wide Awake in America - U2
London Calling (R/M 1999) - The Clash. This is really good. Missed out on a lot of punk due to the bollocks lot.

David if the wife is out why are you listening In The Car? Big Grin
