An interesting collaboration of Najma's soaring liquid vocals and Gary Lucas's accomplished acoustic guitar playing.
Just spoke to my wife and she said the package containing this had arrived. She also said that the CD had gone "missing". Which is code for her throwing it away without opening it. She's not a fan. And I know she's just kidding. Can't wait to give this a listen.
The new Nick Cave. His best for years. Absolutely haunting. It begs for silence immediately after you've listened to it as it's stunning in many senses.
Piano Quartets: Berlin Piano Quartet
Mozart: Richard Galliano (accordion)
Little known fact: Besides Piano, Cello (stringed instruments) I also have a penchant for listening to Accordion, Recorder, Clarinet, Oboe, Organ, Harpsichord (in honour of our dear George!), Guitar, Voice..... So much great music on any instrument !
Faure: Eric Heidsieck
For some reason yesterday Faure's Nocturnes became the centre of my musical journey.
Faure: Stephane Lemelin (piano)
Nocturnes and Barcarolles (recorded in chronological order from 1875 through to 1921 and recorded in 2014
In many ways, this new recording is like a full circle for me. In 1994, this CBC recording was my first exposure to the Faure Nocturnes. I'm thinking now of Led Zeppelin's 10 Years Gone except recomposing it in my head as 20 (plus 2) Years Gone ;-).....
With some reservations. Love Lundgren's playing but the sound quality of M&I Japan discs is just mediocre.
Les McCann - Invitation To Openness
Where has this been most of my life? I was investigating a new album by John Ellis, original keyboard player with Cinematic Orchestra (onMatthew Halsall's Gondwana label here), and was reading a Pitchfork review of Cinematic Orchestra's classic Every Day album (every home should have one!) where they referred to this album by McCann. I'd never heard of him so checked it out...and it's superb.
Loose, jazz/soul/fusion in the style of Miles' In A Silent Way or Weather Report's Mysterious Traveller, but softer, slightly less edgy. Try the opener (it's 26 minutes long) - takes about 5 minutes to open out.
Got lucky in the 2nd hand bin;
Just received this gem from Discogs for a reasonable price, 2011 Japanese reissue with sandpaper sleeve, there is also a regular papersleeve edition
