Argus - 2 CD Limited Edition
Edward
I would be interested to know what you think of the SQ and reproduction on this one Edward, I was tempted but at the moment happy enough with an early '91 CD and an SHMCD.

Sorry for the late reply, not been well due to ongoing problems from my stroke that i had a year ago.
Sound Quality for an album from the early seventy's is outstanding for both cd's, base is strong vocals are clear, good instrument separation. Unfortunately i do not have any other version of this album available to compare the sound quality too so cannot say how this compares to other version of this album, all i can say with confidence is that i am very happy with the sound reproduction and wound not hesitate in recommending this version to anyone thinking of buying this album.

Hi Edward - Thanks for taking the time to reply and I do hope that you are feeling better and getting back on track now? I'm pleased you like this recent edition I had read some mixed reports about it which is why I wondered what you thought of it. I will probably sit pat as I'm happy enough with the two releases I have. On a side note I meant to drop a message to you here a month or so ago to say that you have been and are acquiring some really good 'classic' and contemporary CDs and Hi-Res downloads at the moment, nearly all of which I have but its good to see someone building up a nice collection. Have you managed to expand your Tangerine Dream collection? Get well, take care and enjoy all that lovely music.

Hi Edward,
I'm delighted that you're enjoying the discovery of Tangerine Dream albums. As previously mentioned they (musically) fall into different styles becoming more commercial, less avant garde and experimental as time went on, not to say that this made them bad. The Virgin years up to Exit (1981) is my favourite period for their studio albums, Logos was recorded live (at the Dominion Theatre in London) and released in '82 and also well worth a listen. Best wishes for your ongoing health issues, playing music is something that often helps when we are not feeling one hundred percent.

I saw this LP recommended in an email from Lloyd Walker of Walker Audio. He recommended the vinyl but I got the CD. It is a great album, the end of the early Joni and the beginning of the modern era.

The Disco Dead, Cornell '77, three-CD set:
"Hubardo is the seventh studio album by veteran avant-metal maestros, KAYO DOT. Produced by Randall Dunn (Sunn0))), Master Musicians of Bukkake, etc.), and with a running time of almost 100 minutes, the music follows an epic and heartbreaking narrative of a meteor falling to Earth and its enchantment and alchemical transformation of a lonely poet.
Art Blakey: Caravan + Buhaina's Delight (Essential Jazz Classics 2013). Ripped to my US, no metadata found, had to manually edit everything.

Kevin, I agree with you about CD Japan I've had a few from there myself and been impressed. Do you know if the SQ of these two albums is any better than the redbooks?

Can you hear any difference compared to a standard CD release?

Yes, they're much better Kuma. Not perhaps as good as UK first vinyl presses but much better than standard redbook CD versions. They are 24/96 flat transfers from the original analogue masters, done last year. I hope Universal gives the rest of her catalogue the same treatment.
Grateful Dead Barton Hall Cornell '77. 3 CD's. Sounds great and a great play list. Just came out and, reading the story about the lost tape and the Library of Congress, I had to have it. After the live shows, it is hard to go back to the studio recordings.
