so to get things off and running
queen--the highlander sound track
Catching up to the old stuff:
Frederic Chopin: Piano Sonatas nos. 2 & 3 - Olga Kern (piano)
Frederic Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 1 - Olga Kern (piano) | Antoni Wit
Rachmaninov | Balakirev: Olga Kern (piano)
Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1 - Olga Kern (piano) | Christopher Seaman
Rachmaninov: Transcriptions | Corelli Variations - Olga Kern (piano)
It is very strange. I do not watch CNN or MSNBC yet in my house it just seems to be Russia, Russia, Russia. Mainly Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky as of late among others. And the collusion conspiracy theories of late must have caused me to go mad? Pretending to be an oligarch (poor as a church mouse except with refined musical taste) I spent a king's ransom on this disc because it has my latest musical obsession on it - a Rachmaninov transcription of Tchaikovsky's Lullaby Op. 16 No. 1. Rachmaninov turns it into a beautifully dark lullaby and this is enhanced by the original key Tchaikovsky set this music to in g-flat minor. G_FLAT MINOR ! This is such a rare key. Almost unheard of. This is a piece I will learn this winter somehow.
Rachmaninov and Olga Kern examples below. Another wonderful recording is Polina Osetinskaya.
Rachmaninov in one of his first Edison recordings:

Homage: Vilde Frang (violin) | Jose Gallardo (piano)
Medtner | Rachmaninov | Prokofiev: Sofya Gulyak (piano)
Tchaikovsky: Complete Piano Works - Franco Trabucco (piano)
Tchaikovsky: Complete Piano Works - Viktoria Postnikova (piano)
I don't feel guilty of ordering two discs on the same day after seeing Doug order 21.
Richard Hawley - all of his albums are brilliant. Also very good live.
Steve Earle's latest. On a first listen it seems like one of his best.
Brahms complete Piano Trios: Ax/Kavakos/Ma
2CD set. Brand new release. They are currently touring US together.
Returned home today and found three CD's that had been delivered,
Jon Balke - Siwan: Mahnou Houm
........
Django Bates' Beloved - The Study of Touch
........
Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert
Pearl Jam. Yield. 1998.
Pearl Jam. Ten. 1991.
Oasis. Definitely Maybe. 1994.
2013 shm Japanese edition it' s a real luxury mini box, but sonically wise it's pretty laid back and lacking in dynamics.
I much prefer the ordinary Eu edition.
