Not an easy listen by any stretch of ones imagination but sheer genius no doubt. Incidentally, it has also just had it's tenth birthday, you'd never have guessed it.

After my Weather Report thread, eventually got around to purchasing. Listened to Mysterious traveller last night. Can't say everything leapt out at me but a couple of tracks will ensure it's on again this evening.

Ditto.

Lively stuff. Needs a few more listens, to form a proper opinion. Initial thoughts are that the lyrics are quite "young", shagging, fighting, night clubs etc. No doubting the immediacy of the music. Suspect they are absolutely blistering on stage.

Bill Evans' Waltz For Debbie, and the latest by Bobo Stenson. Separated by 41 years, and both with Paul Motian on drums.

Nigel - excellent choice with Bobo Stenson - you have been buying some really good ECM CD's recently.

It was recommended to me - as was the Bee Gees first album, which I thought I'd hate, but it's really rather good and nothing like the late 70s stuff that made me cringe.

Haim - I will be interested to hear how you get on with Raccolto - not sure that I like it too much myself.

Adrian,

It is no easy music for sure, and I don't want to rush into any conclusion since I just received the discs today, and I listened to them only once. The exploratory style and the pace of the music remind me a little of Christian Wallumrod's ensemble (Sofienberg Variations-ECM which I learnd to like a lot). You really have to be in the mood for this kind of music.
I much prefer the first disc with Giovanni Maier playing the double-bass compared to the second one, where I find the violin of Dominique Pifarely to bo too screechy.

Regards,

Haim
